The Performative Mode

• The final mode Nichols discusses, is easily confused with the participatory mode, and Nichols remains somewhat nebulous about their distinctions.

Example:

• In the documentary “Touching The Void” when “Joe Simpson” touching the void has rein acted scenes within in this documentary.

• One person in particular created a few performative documentaries “Marlon Riggs” who created a documentary in 1990 called “Tongues Untied”. In one of his documentaries he said that he used his experience as a gay black dancer in New York City too create this documentary.
