Prevent-Mosquitoes
Whether you leave for the summer or stay at Carriage Village, please consider the following information.
Mosquitoes are iconic summer (perhaps longer in Florida) pests , but they can cause more problems than just itchy bites, such as transmitting dangerous illnesses and viruses. You can only to do much to stop them from biting. The best way to manage a mosquito problem is to tackle it at its heart: keep the mosquitoes from breeding.
Empty, drain, or cover all things that can and may hold water. Areas of your backyard or porch may have spots where rainwater can pool. Barrels and trash cans tend to collect rainwater extremely well. Old tires, empty bottles, buckets, and other small containers can condense water vapor into tiny pools. Empty and drain all pools of water and cover them up to prevent more water from gathering.
Change water collection pans for plant pots weekly. When you water your plants, the excess water will run through the soil and collect in a pan. If you have any outdoor plants, these collection pans are a prime location for mosquitoes to breed. Empty and clean the pans at least once a week, preferably more frequently.
Clean bird baths weekly. If you have a bird bath outside your house, the stagnant water is a great place for mosquitoes to lay eggs. Minimize mosquitoes breeding there by changing the water and scrubbing down the bath at least once a week, preferably more frequently.
Repair or prevent outside leaks. Plumbing that runs outside can be affected by exposure to the weather, resulting in minor leaks. Window air conditioners often drip condensation, which can pool on the ground. Dripping outdoor faucets also pool on the ground. Repair these problems to minimize water collection as much as possible.
Keep the rain gutters and drains clean. If they are filled with debris, they will trap water during the next rainfall instead of letting it drain. Mosquitoes will then breed in this standing water.
Prevent other sources of standing water. Standing water is the number one breeding spot for mosquitoes. Sometimes, it is nearly impossible to find all bodies of standing water and draining them. However, there are a few precautions you can take to prevent water from building up. Here are some tips to get you started:
• Get rid of any unused pots or bins, or turn them upside down so they don't collect water.
• Keep trash and recycling bins covered. If you can't, try drilling drain holes into the bottom of them.
• Keep a fine-mesh screen over rain barrels, water tanks, and cisterns.• Take a look at your plants. Are any of them collecting water in between the leaves
and the stems? If so, consider poking a tiny hole with a pin into those areas to allow for proper drainage.

1. Courtesy visitor parking in the compound has been changed. It is now 2 spots against the fence bordering Sante Fe to the left of the gate and 2 spots immediately to the right of the gate when you face Conestoga. Another space is set aside for RVS and travel trailers. This is only available for a period of three (3) weeks for visitors. Visitors using this parking will be assigned spaces on a first come, first served basis and reservations can be made up to two (2) weeks in advance. Visitors using this parking must register at the office and provide proof of ownership, registration, and insurance. All vehicles must have valid tags. Visitors will be issued a parking permit with an expiry date which will be returned to the office when the space is vacated. The permit will be prominently displayed so as to be visible from the outside of the vehicle. If the three (3) week time limit is exceeded, the vehicle may be towed at the owner’s expense.
2. If you require outside storage, go to the office. Spots are assigned on a first come basis.3. If you rent a spot, you must comply with Lee County Ordinances – no debris, refuse, loose items or materials stored on the
ground or against the fence, no abandoned vehicles, etc.4. Only people residing in Carriage Village who own property may rent an outside space and store property on it. They
cannot be sub-let or “loaned” to others such as neighbors or renters.5. Cars, trucks, boats, RVs, trailers, etc. must be registered to the lessee. No unregistered vehicles.6. CVLA has the right to remove property for violation of the policy or rules and regulations at the owner’s expense.7. No commercial business is to be carried on and no storage of commercial vehicles is permitted.Failure to provide the yearly
lease payment by January 31 of each year (due January 1 with a 30 day grace period) will terminate the storage agreement. Any property still in the inside or outside storage area, whichever is leased, will be removed by Carriage Village and any cost charged to the home owner who leased the space.
8. Proof of ownership, registrations, and insurance is required for all stored vehicles, cars, trucks, trailers, boats, etc. and is to be provided annually.

WARNING:
Pick up your dog’s poop?Every single person who has cared for a lawn has cleaned up after a DOG/CAT they didn’t reside with. Lazy owners walk their dogs and don’t bother cleaning up after them. Owners who have their own dogs become irritated when piles (not their own dog’s) have accumulated on their property and no one claims ownership. Yes, irresponsible owners who don’t clean up after their dog need to be held accountable for their actions, If you or your dog are identified the Animal Control Office will be notified.
How many times do you have to be reminded? A pet is your responsibility… Every Month someone brings this complaint to the office… How many different ways is there to ask? If you are not lazy but unable to scoop get a long handled shovel or rake.
It’s disgusting and unsanitary!!
(Ord. 75-10, 9-13-2010)
§ 4-9 Nuisance animals. Domesticated animals including dogs, cats and ferrets.
It shall be unlawful for any owner or owner's agent to fail to care for or control owned animals that become a nuisance. The owner of every animal shall be responsible for the removal of any excreta deposited by the animal on public walks, recreation areas, private property, or any other place where such excreta deposits may create a nuisance injurious to the public health.
