It took a transformation from Conservative to Liberaland over 30 years to write this book.

The Prince of Camelot is dead. This is more than weshould have to bear.

Most of these ideas are not new. Some are. They arearranged and displayed so you can see PERFECT EVIL forwhat it is.

VOTING, ELECTIONS,CAMPAIGN ADS AND

GEORGE W. BUSH

I never thought I would live to see the day when we wouldnot count all the votes in an election and look to all theworld like a third-world country. The Conservatives did it.They stole the 2000 presidential election from Al Gore andgave it to George W. Bush.

Al Gore received the most popular votes in the entirecountry, and he may have had the most votes in Florida, ifthe conservatives had not used roadblocks and technicalitiesto stop all the votes from being counted.

Who had the most votes in Florida is not the point. The point is that conversatives stopped the counting of votesthey did not want to be counted. This was unamerican.

I knew that Conservatives would do anything to win,but I still cannot believe that they got away with not count-ing the ballots that the machines could not count. If a ma-chine cannot count a ballot, then a human being must lookat the ballot with human eyes and try to determine for whomthe voter cast their vote. This was a basic principle of theUnited States of America until this election. Many electionsacross this country have been decided by hand countingballots. This is the first time I remember an election beingdecided by not counting the ballots.

Florida law allows for manual recounts. Lawyers forAl Gore asked for manual recounts. Lawyers for GeorgeW. Bush fought to stop the manual recounts. Florida Secre-tary of State Katherine Harris, a Republican who was

9

Page 9: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil10

George W. Bush’s honorary co-chairman of his Floridapresidential campaign, refused to accept all the handcounts.

There were time limits on how long counties had tocount the votes by hand. All the votes could not be countedin time, and Miami-Dade County canceled its hand recountafter a mob of Republicans chanted and pounded on thewindows where the recount was taking place. Joe Geller, aDemocratic lawyer and chair of the local party, received asample ballot from the elections office and was surroundedby the Republican mob who thought he had taken an actualballot. Geller had to have the police escort him to safety.

The Florida State Supreme Court tried to get all thevotes counted more than once. Bush’s lawyers tried to stopthe recounts in federal court. That did not work until theywent to the United States Supreme Court. Remember whenConservatives used to say that state rights were so im-portant? State rights take a back seat in a hurry when theygo against what Conservatives want.

Republican attorneys got the Florida courts to sendabout 650,000 Miami-Dade County ballots and about400,000 Palm Beach County ballots to a Tallahassee court. Then, they demanded another one million ballots from sev-eral counties be sent to Tallahassee. Now you know how touse delaying tactics to run out the clock on your opponent.Use lots of attorneys and bring lots of lawsuits.

In December, 2000 John Ahmam, a Bush Team witnessand a designer of punch-card machines testified that themachines could be unreliable, which would necessitate handcounts of ballots.

In Palm Beach County, a Democratic county, the ‘‘but-terfly’’ ballot confused many voters. There were names oneach side of the ballot with holes in the center. Pat Bu-chanan, a Conservative, was the first candidate on the rightside and had the second hole in the center as his. Al Gorewas the second candidate on the left side and had the third

Page 10: Perfect Evil

Voting, Elections, Campaign Ads and George W. Bush 11

hole as his. Voters who punched the second hole, thinkingthey were voting for Al Gore, actually voted for Buchanan.Pat Buchanan received thousands of votes in a countywhere he should have received very few. Even Buchananhimself said that the votes should have gone to Gore andnot him.

The Florida State House voted to name Republicanelectors to the Electoral College and the Florida State Sen-ate was ready to do the same thing, if George W. Bush hadlost in the courts. They were prepared to ignore the votersin Florida. They were willing to do anything to make sureBush became president, even if it meant telling the Demo-cratic voters their votes did not count.

Americans need to eliminate the Electoral College. AlGore had the most popular votes and still lost the election, the first time that has happened since 1888. We elect theU.S. Congress, state legislatures, some judges, etc., by pop-ular vote. We can do the same for president and vice presi-dent. But do you think Conservatives will allow theelimination of the Electoral College?

The U.S. Supreme Court voted 5-4 to stop the recounts,in effect, because the recount could not be conducted incompliance with the requirements of equal protection anddue process without substantial additional work. Theywanted one statewide standard with judicial review, andthey gave Florida no time to do it. The Supreme Court gaveFlorida about two hours to implement the order.

In December, 2000 Supreme Court Justice John PaulStevens said, ‘‘One thing is certain though. Although wemay never know with complete certainty the identity of thewinner of this year’s presidential election, the identity ofthe loser is perfectly clear. It is the nation’s confidence inthe judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law.’’

In December 2000, Supreme Court Justice Ruth BaderGinsburg wrote, ‘‘The extraordinary setting of this case has

Page 11: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil12

obscured the ordinary principle that dictates its proper reso-lution. Federal courts defer to state high courts’ interpreta-tions of their state’s own law.’’

So, you have a convervative U.S. Supreme Court thatbelieves in state rights telling the Florida State SupremeCourt it has no rights.

Conservatives will do anything and sacrifice anything, even U.S. Supreme Court justices to get what they want.Just wait until something they do not like comes beforethe U.S. Supreme Court. Conservatives will start screamingabout state rights and that federal courts should not be in-volved. They will forget about what they did to Gore andpretend it never happened.

In Seminole County, Florida Republicans were al-lowed to work out of the county supervisor of elections,Sandy Goard’s office, to add voter identification numbersto absentee-ballot requests. The ballots had previously beenrejected as invalid and set aside. Republicans correctedabout 2,000 ballots. Republicans worked in the office forabout 15 days. A Democratic representative should havebeen there. There was a lawsuit to toss these ballots out,but the courts said that the ballots should be counted. Thatis fine with me; ballots should be counted. All ballots shouldhave been counted.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Demo-crats had done what the Republicans did? The Republicanswould have rioted. It was okay for the Republicans to takeabout 15 days to correct ballot requests, but it was wrong tocount undervotes or overvotes in Florida. The Republicanswanted it both ways, and they got it.

One of the arguments used by the Republicans to stopthe manual recounts of ballots was that hand recounts couldnot be accurate or fair and were open to human error. Ifmachines could not find voter intent, humans should not beallowed to look at the ballots and determine voter intent. The argument did not work in the Florida Supreme Court

Page 12: Perfect Evil

Voting, Elections, Campaign Ads and George W. Bush 13

who ordered manual recounts. However, it did work in theU.S. Supreme Court. Yet, ballots were not only counted byhumans, some were actually duplicated. About 10,000 tornor unreadable absentee ballots were duplicated by electionofficials and then counted. As we know, most absentee bal-lots were cast for Bush. Bush won Florida by about 500votes. Republicns did not complain about humans duplicat-ing and counting those ballots that favored Bush. The Flor-ida Supreme Court was right when they ordered handrecounts.

The time limits that were used in Florida were unrea-sonable. The time limits used by Katherine Harris to stopthe recounts made no sense, unless you are a Republicanand wanted George W. Bush to win. There was no reasonnot to take the time necessary to count all the votes. Whentime limit laws were created, did hole punch cards exists? How many people then lived in Florida? Sometimes, lawsbecome obsolete and need to be changed. Sometimes, statecourts use their power to correct bad laws.

You could have easily in a short period of time lookedat all the undervotes (ballots that did not register on a ma-chine) and all the overvotes (ballots where Al Gore waschosen and the voter also wrote in Gore’s name or JoeLieberman’s name, and where George Bush was chosenand the voter wrote in Bush’s name or Dick Cheney’s namein error) in every county. You could have easily determinedthe voter’s intention and counted the votes, correctly. If thevoters intention was not clear, then you would not countthat vote. This is not rocket science, people!

Republicans said they did not like the way the recountswere being conducted. Did you notice, however, that theydid not offer any solutions? Here are some solutions:

1. Bring in the G.A.O. (Government Accounting Of-fice) to assist with the recounts.

2. Bring in the F.B.I. to help.

Page 13: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil14

3. Bring in federal marshals to help.4. Bring in the Canadians to help. They know how to

count votes. They counted their entire country(more than double the number of voters in Florida)in a matter of hours with no trouble at all.

5. Issue paper ballots and have every voter who votedon Election Day (we know who they were, theysigned in when they voted) return to their votingoffice, re-sign their names and re-vote. Everyonewho voted for Gore would vote for him, and every-one who voted for Bush would vote for him, andwe would have found out who really voted for Bu-chanan.

They should have done whatever was necessary tocount every possible vote. Every vote, in every countyshould have been counted. That includes counting absenteeballots that were received by a certain day, not whetherthey had a postmark or not. What was the hurry? The U.S.congressional race in Michigan, won by Democratic DianneByrum, was not decided until December 15, 2000. The Re-publicans did not mind taking weeks to recount those votes.Amazing, isn’t it?

Conservatives do not like solutions. They do not wantto resolve issues or problems. They just want everythingtheir way and are willing to do anything to get it. They donot care who they hurt, even if it is the country they livein. How do you tell voters now that every vote counts? Doyou tell them, every vote counts if Conservatives allow itto be counted! Do you tell them, do not bother voting inthe next presidential election because the Republicans andthe U.S. Supreme Court have already appointed George W.Bush as king of America?

To show you how nasty Conservatives are, this is whatFlorida Republican House Speaker Tom Feeney said whenAl Gore was giving his concession speech, which almost

Page 14: Perfect Evil

Voting, Elections, Campaign Ads and George W. Bush 15

everyone said was a terrific speech: ‘‘What a loser!’’ andthat the concession was ‘‘an evil speech.’’

I think we all know who is evil here, and it is not AlGore. It’s the Perfect Evil that is never wrong. Conserva-tives just hate it when they get caught being their normalevil selves.

Newspapers are using Florida law to get access to theballots and do their own count of the ‘‘undervotes’’ and‘‘overvotes.’’ The Republicans really hate that and wouldstop the press if they could. There is no good reason whythe votes should not be counted. It will not change the out-come of the election. We would just find out the truth. The‘‘truth’’ is not who had the most votes, the ‘‘truth’’ is count-ing all the votes. But Conservatives hate it when newspaperstell the truth and expose them as frauds for not counting allthe votes.

Conservatives will take away some of your rights ifyou do not fight for them. It always amazes me that peoplecomplain about what Conservatives do to them, after theydecided not to vote. If you did not vote, do not complain. You allowed the Conservatives to take power, and they willuse that power to do whatever they want to do. If you votedfor Ralph Nader, then do not complain about what Bushdoes to the environment. You put Bush in office, and if hegives business the green light to do whatever it wants, thenyou have no one to blame but yourselves. Do not be sur-prised if the only green Bush cares about is money.

No army in the world could force us to stop countingthe votes. No country in the world could demand that wenot count all the votes. Only Conservatives could do sucha un-American act. It is like an act of treason has beencommitted, and we are powerless to stop it. It feels like ourConstitution has been violated and the American peoplehave been betrayed.

In the future, ballots must be easy to understand, easyto complete, and include detailed instructions. It should be

Page 15: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil16

illegal to use ballots or methods that mislead voters, espe-cially the elderly and people who have trouble understand-ing English. Assistance must available at all voting offices, and people must be encouraged to ask for help. No votershould ever leave a voting office without knowing if theirvote will be counted. If machines are used, there must be atest machine in place to check each ballot to see if the ballotwill be counted. If there is a problem, the voter must benotified and given a new ballot to complete. Then, the ballotmust be tested again. This process must continue until theballot is accepted. Would this take more time? Yes, it would, but there is no reason we should not take the time to makesure every vote is counted in America.

I know Conservatives love to say that if you are notsmart enough to vote correctly, then that is just too bad.Your vote does not count, and they do not want to spendany money to fix the many problems with our many votingsystems. They have told me this more than once. Not everyone is perfect like Conservatives are, however. Many of usare just normal human beings with faults and deficiencies. In fact, I, for one, have never been perfect since I stoppedbeing a Conservative! Conservatives make sure that minori-ties get an inferior education, then say it is their fault thatthey did not have an decent education. They should havemoved out to the suburbs with the Conservatives.

The Conservatives’ argument that taking the time tocount all the votes would cause a Constitutional crisis isridiculous. We should allow whatever time it takes to countevery vote. Roadblocks used by Conservatives to stopcounting the votes should be illegal and unconstitutional.

Also, we do not need instant results reported on televi-sion, especially when they are only guessing who won. Thiscauses some voters not to vote because the T.V. alreadypredicted one of the candidates was going to win. Votersdo not bother to vote because they think the election is over.Television reporters must not be allowed to report results

Page 16: Perfect Evil

Voting, Elections, Campaign Ads and George W. Bush 17

on any election until all the polling offices have closed. That means if there is more than one time zone in a state, there should be no reporting until all the polling offices inthe entire state are closed. It also means that there shouldbe no reporting on a presidential election until all pollingoffices in the country are closed. You do not think that willbe feasible? Just change the time polling offices closearound the country. Stagger the closing times. If you cannotunderstand how, ask a Canadian to explain it to you.

Elections are supposed to be for the people, not fortelevision. We need accurate results, not instant results, even if we have to wait until the next day to find out whowon the election. No one is going to die if we have to waitone day for results, or if we have to wait one month for arecount. Accuracy before speed, and count every vote.

Campaign ads often lie about opponents or twist thetruth to extremes. When they do not lie, they often just donot tell the truth. It is imperative that every state have abipartisan Campaign Commission with the authority to re-view ads and point out lies and distortions. Television andnewspapers should always report what the commissionfinds. States should provide adequate funds for the commis-sion. Being able to inform the public of the truth wouldwell be worth the small cost. Do you think Conservativeswould ever allow such a commission to expose the truth?

Now that George W. Bush is president, many say wemust unite behind him. It is true that in times of war wenormally unite behind the president (Vietnam was an excep-tion,) but in times of peace we unite behind our presidentbased upon what he or she does. We should give him a chanceto unite the country by doing what is best for the people andthe country. If he does not do what is best for Americans, wemust point out what he is doing to hurt the country.

What I am trying to show you in this book is thatConservatives do things that are not good for the country,or for you, or for your children. Not only can they stop

Page 17: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil18

votes from being counted, they can do many other harmful, even evil things. They can take away your freedom and ourdemocracy piece by piece, one little step at a time.

Did Bush appoint mostly Conservatives to his adminis-tration? There is no real diversity if most of our administra-tion is Conservative, no matter what their race. Will he pushthrough a Conservative agenda and leave many Americansbehind? Will he give most of the tax breaks to the rich? Will he do what is best for the people, or what the NationalRifle Association tells him to do? Will he try to make someor all abortions illegal, which will make women second-class citizens and cause the deaths of some? Will he doanything to control overpopulation, or will he pretend thereis no problem? Will he hurt the environment and let busi-ness do what it wants to do? Will he endorse the Christianreligion and Christian prayer as the approved state religion? Will he understand that if all he does is attack the supplyof drugs, he will lose the war on drugs? Will he take moneyfrom poor schools that need it and give the money to richschools? Will he pay down the national debt, or increase it,leaving it to our children to try and pay it off and causinghigher interest rates? Will he try to control campaign fund-ing or just try to collect more money for his next campaign? Will he spend billions to build a national missile defensethat cannot work, is useless and counterproductive? Willhe send his Conservative troops after the RU-486 abortionpill and try to recverse the RDA’s approval?

As you can see, a lot depends on what George W. Bushdoes with the issues facing this country. Even what he saysis important. One of the first choices he had to make afterbeing elected was whether to do what was best for the coun-try, or play politics and do what was best for him and theRepublicans. There were indications of an economic slow-down. Bush should have said that the economy will con-tinue to grow and that everything will be all right. Thatwould help keep consumer confidence up. People would

Page 18: Perfect Evil

Voting, Elections, Campaign Ads and George W. Bush 19

continue to buy, and that would help prevent a recession. But, instead, he chose to predict a bleak economic future.By saying that, he positioned himself to blame Clinton forany recession and got his big tax cut to give more moneyto the rich. Just by talking about an economic downturn,Bush could hurt consumer confidence and cause people tospend less, thereby causing a recession by predicting it.Because Bush gave too much of a tax break to the rich, themiddle class will have less to spend and we may see thedeficit start going up again.

This is typical of what conservatives do—put them-selves ahead of the country. The middle class are alwaysthe ones that have to pay for the actions of the Conserva-tives. We will be watching to see what Bush actually does, and who benefits from his policies and who is hurt by hisactions. You should always watch closely what Conserva-tives do and how they affect your life. If you do not keepyourself informed and understand exactly how Conserva-tives can make something sound good when it is actuallybad, you will be controlled by a Perfect Evil that can takeaway your freedoms and hurt you and your children in waysthat are concealed completely from you.

GUNS

The one thing that Conservatives do not want you toknow is that there are no effective gun laws in the UnitedStates. Because there are loopholes and different laws indifferent areas, anyone can easily get a gun. You just haveto go to the point of least resistance.

There are cities that have strict gun control laws, butare surrounded by gun stores just outside the city limitswhere the laws are not as strict. If one county has strictlaws, you simply go to a different county. If one state hasstrict laws, you just go to a different state. If a criminalcannot buy guns, he has someone else buy guns for him. That person is called a ‘‘straw purchaser.’’

A criminal can go to gun shows, flea markets, pawnshops, newspapers, magazines, private sales, the internetand small gun dealers who sell guns from their houses orcars to avoid strict gun laws. There are more loopholes thanyou can believe!

Ali Abu Kamal, a Palestinian, in February 1997 flewto Florida, gave the address of a motel room he just movedinto as his residence, and waited three days after applyingto purchase a gun. He passed a background check (Howcould he have a U.S. criminal record?—He was a for-eigner!) and was able to buy a handgun, go to the EmpireState Building observation deck, kill and wound people, and then kill himself.

Laws have been passed to ban assault rifles, semiauto-matic assault pistols, armor piercing bullets, large ammuni-tion clips, etc. There are ‘‘grandfather’’ clauses, however,

20

Page 20: Perfect Evil

Guns 21

that allow any weapons that existed before those laws tocontinue to be sold! Only new weapons are banned, so youcan still buy almost any weapon you want, and easily!

The police, who complain about facing criminals withbetter weapons than they have, sell or trade used handguns, shotguns, assaults rifles and, believe it or not, grenadelaunchers to gun dealers. Some of these guns are used tocommit crimes.

You can legally purchase .50-caliber rifles that canpenetrate a tank’s armor.

Instant background checks work some of the time, butnot always. Small towns do not have the resources to keepdata up to date on criminals, and sometimes the informationdoes not come back to the gun seller fast enough to stopthe sale. These problems must be solved before we can relyon instant checks to stop unqualified people from purchas-ing guns.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) says all we haveto do is enforce the laws we currently have, but there areso many loopholes that there is no chance the current lawswill keep guns out of the hands of criminals, children, thementally ill, etc.

The NRA in a 1995 fund-raising letter, described fed-eral law enforcement agents as Nazis and ‘‘jack-booted gov-ernment thugs’’ seeking to ‘‘harass, intimidate, even murderlaw-abiding citizens.’’ Attacking federal law enforcementagents to raise money is an evil thing to do.

How can Conservatives continue to fight against rea-sonable new gun laws? Here is a partial list of the conse-quences when children kill with guns that were too easy forthem to get:

1. Feb. 19, 1997: Bethel, Alaska, high school—Onechild & principal dead.

2. Oct. 1, 1997: Pearl High School in Pearl, Miss.—Twochildren dead.

Page 21: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil22

3. Dec. 1, 1997: Heath High School in West Paducah,Ky.—Three children dead.

4. March 24, 1998: Westside Middle School in Jonesboro,Ark.—Four children & a teacher dead.

5. April 24, 1998: James W. Parker Middle School gradu-ation dance in Edinboro, Pa.—One teacher dead.

6. April 28, 1998: Pomona, Calif. elementaryschool—Two children dead.

7. May 19, 1998: Lincoln County High School in Fayette-ville, Tenn.—One child dead.

8. May 21, 1998: Springfield, Ore.—Two children dead.9. April 20, 1999: Columbine High School in Littleton,

Colo.—Fourteen children (including the two shoot-ers) & a teacher dead.

10. May 20, 1999: Heritage High School in Conyers,Ga.—Six children wounded.

11. Feb. 29, 2000: Buell Elementary school in Mount Mor-ris Township, Mich.—One child (6 years old) dead.

When I was young, children, including me, had fightsover nothing (though it seemed important at the time) thatusually wound up as wrestling matches. Later, we oftenwere friends with each other. Now, children cannot befriends later on because one or the other is shot to death.

It is too easy for kids to get guns. Everyone knows it,but Conservatives will not allow real solutions. Conserva-tives think they are always right, that they are perfect. Theyare perfect—PERFECT EVIL.

Besides closing all the loopholes in present gun laws, all guns should have safety child-proof trigger locks or safestorage devices. If you buy a gun anywhere, from anyone, there must be a background check. No one under age 21should be able to buy a gun. Get rid of the old (grandfath-ered) illegal guns and ammunition clips. Require a photolicense (like a driver’s license) for anyone who buys a gun.Promote ‘‘smart gun’’ technology permitting weapons to

Page 22: Perfect Evil

Guns 23

be fired only by their owners. Require mandatory securitysystems at all gun stores. Applicants must have gun trainingbefore they can buy a gun.

Conservatives say that if you license gun owners, thatwill lead to the government eventually taking away all theguns. No way. I had a Pistol License, a Black Powder Li-cense and an Air/Gas Pistol License. I was never deniedany reasonable gun, and nobody ever tried to take any ofthem away from me!

Conservatives talk about the right to carry a gun. Theywill tell you about the history of guns in America. Whatthey do not want you to know is that in the old west in the1800’s many towns banned guns within the city limits.Within these limits only authorized police could carry guns. The wild west figured out how to reduce gun deaths—makeit less wild!

Conservatives like to point out that some killers useknives, hammers, etc., to kill. Then, they ask if all knives, hammers, etc., should be banned. This is not a proper anal-ogy. Handguns are created to do just one thing—kill people. They are not a hunting weapon of choice. Yes, they areused for target shooting, but their real purpose is to killpeople. Gun manufacturers advertise that their guns are bet-ter, more powerful, fire more bullets, fire faster, etc. Gunsare inherently evil, and evil must be controlled. Cars canbe deadly weapons, which is why we have so many rulesand controls for cars and drivers.

You will love this one: after the massacre at ColumbineHigh School in Littleton, Colo., instead of passing gun con-trol laws, House Conservatives in Washington, D.C., votedto allow the posting of the Ten Commandments at schoolsand other public buildings. Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga., said theTen Commandments posting could have prevented the mas-sacre in Littleton.

Conservatives will say anything to deflect people fromthinking about the real issues. By the way, which version

Page 23: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil24

of the Ten Commandments is everyone supposed to use? There are various versions. Who decides which version touse?

There are other religions and teachers that people fol-low in the U.S. Should we post, also, the writings of Bud-dha, Confucius, etc., next to the Ten Commandments?

In 1998 some cities decided to sue gun manufacturers. In New York a federal jury held several gun makers liableand awarded $500,000 to Steven Fox and his mother. Aneconomist testified during the trial that a large percentageof the handguns used in crimes in New York City camefrom Southern states.

As I stated before, strict gun laws, like those in NewYork City, are useless when criminals can just go some-where else and get guns. The gun manufacturers are tryingto use the same defense that the tobacco companies tried touse—they are not responsible for what their customers do.However, if a company does nothing to make its productsafe, is negligent or promotes illegal acts, then it is respon-sible.

Conservative state legislatures, supported by the NRA,are passing bills to stop local governments from suing gunmanufacturers for the illegal use of their products. TexasGov. George W. Bush, in 1999, signed a bill that bars localgovernments from suing gun manufacturers to recover dam-ages from gun violence. Other states have passed similarlaws.

What happened to Conservatives complaining aboutbig government interfering with the rights of the people? Iguess when it comes to campaign contributions from theNRA, dollars override rights.

In March, 2000 Gunmaker Smith & Wesson agreed toinstall locks on its weapons. In exchange, governments(state, local and the Clinton administration) would droplawsuits asking damages for gun violence.

Page 24: Perfect Evil

Guns 25

Smith & Wesson will also develop ‘‘smart gun’’ tech-nology that limits a gun’s use to its owner. The NRA’spresident, who is also an actor, Charlton Heston, said theBritish owners of Smith & Wesson do not place the samevalue on the Second Amendment’s right to bear armsAmericans do.

Maybe the British have a better understanding of achild’s right to not be shot by a gun.

In April, 2000 Massachusetts used consumer-protec-tion rules to ban cheap guns, require childproof locks onguns, safety warnings with each gun, tamper-resistant serialnumbers on guns, and indicators on semiautomatic hand-guns that reveal whether a bullet is in the chamber. TheAttorney General wrote the rules, bypassing the Legislature.

I wonder if Mr. Heston thinks Massachusetts is a for-eign country?

Did you notice that when white kids started to get shotinstead of inner-city non-white kids, that more people gotinterested in gun control?

Moms are now getting together, like they did withdrunk diving (MADD—Mothers Against Drunk Driving),to work for gun control. The NRA and the Conservativepoliticians better watch out, you don’t want to make thoseMom’s mad, they Vote! On May 14, 2000, there was a‘‘Million Mom March.’’ There was a turnout of about750,000 people in Washington, D.C., urging Congress topass reasonable gun control.

A Conservative politician’s number one priority is thepeople who give them money. The money provides accessto the politician. On rare occasions, they also have to payattention to voters or they might not get reelected no matterhow much money they collected. Women must vote theConservatives out of office before politicians will takethem seriously.

Why would women ever vote for Conservatives? Con-servatives allow children and criminals easy access to guns.Isn’t the body count high enough yet?

Page 25: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil26

But, of course, guns don’t kill children; children killchildren. Guns don’t kill relatives; relatives kill relatives.Guns don’t kill neighbors; neighbors kill neighbors. Thefact is we all know guns in the wrong hands definitely kill!

Real gun control will require real gun laws, laws thatwill make many people angry. Politicians will do what theNRA dollars and NRA voters say to do, until they believeenough voters are mad enough about the lack of gun controlto actually vote them out of office.

Too many politicians are elected by too few people. Ifyou want change, do something about it!

ABORTION

Does a woman have the right to decide what to do with herown body? Yes, she does. Should women make medicaldecisions with advice from their doctors? Yes, doctors arequalified to give medical advice, and women can make theirown decisions. Should politicians and Conservatives makemedical and life decisions for women? No way!

Conservatives say it is wrong to take the life of anunborn child. Until a fetus is born, it is part of the woman’sbody. When does a fetus become a child? When it leavesthe woman’s body and can sustain life on its own? Whenit can leave the woman’s body and medical equipment cankeep it alive for a while? When it can leave the woman’sbody and medical science can keep it alive for a long time? You can argue these ideas forever.

When Conservatives say it is wrong to kill, they havea very twisted idea about killing. They say that abortion iskilling, but if they kill someone they don’t like, then thatkilling is justified. In 1993 Dr. David Gunn was shot todeath by Michael Griffin, an abortion foe, at the PensacolaWomen’s Medical Services clinic in Pensacola, Florida. Itwasn’t hard for Griffin to chase down Dr. Gunn and shoothim three times, because Dr. Gunn wore leg braces due tochildhood polio.

Paul Hill killed a clinic escort in Wichita, Kansas. JohnC. Salvi III killed two young receptionists and shot fiveother people at two different clinics in Brookline, Massa-chusetts. A bomb exploded at the New Women All WomenHealth Care Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, killing one

27

employee, an off-duty police officer and critically woundinga clinic counselor, in January, 1998. A sniper shot throughthe kitchen window of Dr. Barnett Slepian’s house andkilled him in Amherst, N.Y., in October 1998.

Pro-life people say it is not their fault that these indi-viduals kill. But, the pro-life rhetoric calling abortion mur-der and clinic protesters encourage violence.

On a Web page dripping with electronic blood that lists‘‘Alleged Abortionists and Their Accomplices,’’ someonedrew a line through Barnett Slepian’s name. You knowsomething like that is going to send a message to conserva-tives that it is acceptable to kill.

Abortion opponents have always been against PlannedParenthood. They focus only on abortion and ignore every-thing else that Planned Parenthood does. Planned Parent-hood provides family planning, birth control advice, generalwomen’s health care services, gynecological exams, prena-tal care, cancer screenings, pregnancy tests, rape crisiscounseling, programs for pregnant teens, abortion advice, etc. To be against Planned Parenthood is to be againstwomen and families.

Why do women vote for men or Conservatives? In 1999 Florida Gov. Jeb Bush signed a law creating

a ‘‘Choose Life’’ license plate, which was backed by avariety of Conservative groups.

This is the government fanning the flames of hate andviolence. Then, when something violent happens, the gov-ernment says what a terrible thing it is and that they aresorry it happened. A Conservative government does notsolve problems; it helps create them.

The Intact Dilation and Evacuation, or Partial BirthAbortion as the pro-life supporters like to call it, is an exam-ple of the government trying to outlaw a medical procedure. This late-term abortion is rarely done and is usually per-formed to protect the life and health of the mother or be-cause the fetus has fatal abnormalities.

Page 28: Perfect Evil

Abortion 29

We all know what Conservatives think about women:men are the boss and women must follow. This medicalprocedure should be a decision made by the woman andher doctor, not politicians, especially male Conservativepoliticians. Maybe someday, women will wakeup and therewill be a big reduction in Conservative politicians.

The parental consent laws sound good, but are danger-ous to the life of young females. Of course, the life of anyfemale is not rated very highly by Conservative males, andif she is young and cannot vote, that moves her even fartherdown the scale.

If a young girl knows that she cannot get a legal abor-tion unless she tells her parents, she may try to get an illegalabortion, which could kill her. That is what happened toRebecca (Becky) Bell in 1988. Her parents were sure thatBecky would come to them about her pregnancy. But, shedid not. She got an illegal abortion and died. The lawkilled her.

What happened to Conservatives protecting the pri-vacy rights of individuals? Maybe, privacy rights only applyto men, not women, and especially not young women.

Can you imagine a girl who has been raped by herfather or stepfather and becomes pregnant having to get hispermission for an abortion? What if the father of the babyis a friend or relative of one of the parents and wants thegirl to have his baby? The parents might think it is a goodidea to force the child to have the baby, but the child doesnot. Does that not create a possibility for suicide? If youdon’t think this sort of scenario hasn’t happened already, you are hiding from reality. Every girl does not live ina perfect family. Many teenage girls do not have a goodrelationship with their parents. Conservatives are trying toforce this with disastrous results. Conservatives are alwaysright, and they are always perfect—PERFECT EVIL.

Congressional Conservatives have tried to make it ille-gal to transport a girl under 18 across state lines to have an

Page 29: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil30

abortion. It would be a federal crime that could put brothers, sisters, grandparents, friends, ministers, etc., in jail for help-ing a girl. If it ever gets through the legislature, it will coststhe lives of some girls due to illegal abortions or suicide. If we ever get a Conservative president and a ConservativeCongress, women’s abortion rights will be eroded.

In December, 1988 Nancy Klein was in a car accidentthat left her in a coma, and she was pregnant. Her husband,Martin Klein, and doctors decided it was best for Nancy’srecovery and health to have an abortion. Two anti-abortion-ists filed a case against having the abortion and took thecase all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Martin Kleinsaid the two activists who tried to stop the abortion ‘‘putus through a living hell.’’ Martin won the case. Nancy hadthe abortion in February 1989 and began to emerge fromthe coma two weeks later. There was a movie made aboutthis titled Absolute Strangers.

If pro-life people get their way, women like Nancy willhave to have the child and risk death. Of course, in the eyesof Conservatives, she is just a female while the child mightbe a male.

Have you noticed that the same people who are againstabortion are also against birth control or the teaching ofsafe sex? Remember the ‘‘Just Say No’’ Nancy Reagancampaign that preached abstinence only. It totally ignoredthe reality that some children are going to get pregnant nomatter what you say to them. Not all children live in perfecthomes. Abstinence is a good plan A, what is the Converva-tives’ Plan B when plan A fails? Birth control and educationare absolutely necessary if you want to reduce abortions. Itis as if the pro-life people do not want any solutions thatcould reduce their own importance by reducing the needfor abortions

It is crazy that in the U.S. girls feel they have no oneto turn to when they are giving birth, and then proceed tokill or dump their child. The pro-life people have created

Page 30: Perfect Evil

Abortion 31

a climate of hate that has scared girls into keeping theirpregnancies secret. Then, when the baby gets killed ordumped, no one can understand why it has happened andthey demand that the mother be punished! We cannot punishthe people who created the climate of fear, so let’s go afterthe bad mother. After all, she is just a female. Some Conser-vatives call for the mother to receive the death penalty. Intheir minds, it is wrong for the mother to kill, but it is Okayto kill the mother. Conservatives are not known for theircompassion, understanding or tolerance. Remember, theytell children that Planned Parenthood and other organiza-tions like it are bad places to go for help.

Pro-life Conservatives have been fighting against theuse of the French abortion RU-486 pill since 1988. RU-486 terminates an early pregnancy without surgery. Pro-lifepeople are afraid of this pill because you don’t have to goto a clinic to abort the fetus. You can go to any doctorauthorized to use the drug, anywhere. In September, 1996,the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the pill wassafe and effective when the treatment is supervised by adoctor. They expected the drug to be in doctors’ offices bymid to late 1997.

As of June, 2000, RU-486 had been distributed to 20countries. The FDA kept adding new restrictions to keepthe pill out of the privacy of doctor’s offices. Men had noproblem getting Viagra approved.

Finally, on September 28, 2000, the FDA approved theuse, by doctors, of RU-486.

There is a ‘‘morning-after’’ drug contraceptive thatreceived marketing approval from the FDA in 1999, whichprevents pregnancy from unprotected sex. A kit containingthe pills is sold under the name PREVEN. PREVEN willnot terminate an existing pregnancy.

You would think that this is a kit every woman wouldwant in her medicine cabinet in case of rape or unprotectedsex, but Wal-Mart has taken this choice away from women.

Page 31: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil32

Wal-Mart refuses to sell Preven. Will other types of birthcontrol be banned next? Pro-life people do not want anysolutions that could hurt their cause. If women only gotpregnant when they wanted to, there would be fewer abor-tions. Conservatives don’t want women to have a choice;men should decide for them.

Conservative males make laws about abortion, yet theynever have to worry about having to follow their own laws.If they make abortion more restrictive or illegal and makeit difficult for women to get birth control, they don’t haveto worry about having an illegal abortion, death, or suicide, because they can never get pregnant. There are no penaltiesfor the males! Then, when unwanted children are born, theConservatives can complain about welfare, child abuse, fos-ter care costs, orphanages, teenage crime, child care costs, absent fathers, etc. Conservatives just love to create theproblems and then complain about them.

Let’s hope that we never have a Conservative presidentwho appoints more Conservative Supreme Court justiceswho would make abortion illegal again.

DEATH PENALTY

Many people argue about whether the death penalty is agood or bad idea. They argue about what it accomplishes. One thing it does accomplish for sure: it teaches our childrenthat it is okay to kill. This is a very clear message that isnot lost on our children. We tell our children that it is wrongfor them to murder, but it is okay for the State to murdersomeone.

When a soldier from another country who is trying todestroy our country is captured, we do not execute him. That would be barbaric, even if we knew they killed someof our people. But when we capture criminals and we aresomewhat sure they committed a crime, we execute them.

Conservatives who are pro-life when it comes to abor-tion are pro-death when it comes to the death penalty. Con-servatives demand that the unwanted child must be born. Then, when the child commits a crime, they demand jail, even at a young age. Finally, when the child kills someone, they demand the death penalty. Conservatives complainabout the child all through its life. To them, these childrenare bad people, while the Conservatives are good people.Conservatives are perfect people—PERFECT EVIL.

Conservatives say the death penalty is a deterrent tocriminals. Let’s investigate that idea. Texas is at or near thetop in executions every year. Following Conservative logic, therefore, Texas must have one of the lowest murder ratesin the U.S. But guess what state is at or near the top whenit comes to murders each year? If you guessed Texas, youare correct. Do you really believe that murderers think

33

Page 33: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil34

things through before they kill. Usually, they are very angryat someone, crazy, or desperate for drugs or money. Theydo not think before they act. The emotion of the moment iswhat drives them to kill. If they were capable of a rationalthought at the time of the act and actually made a rationaldecision, a sentence of life without the possibility of parolewould work as a deterrent just as well as the death penalty.

Conservatives say that when you execute someone, that person cannot commit another murder. This is true, butlife without parole accomplishes the same thing withoutteaching children that it is okay to solve a problem bykilling.

Conservatives say it is expensive to keep a killer injail for life. This is true, but it also is very expensive to payfor death penalty trials, lawyers, appeals, etc., plus the moralprice our entire society pays when we condone the state’suse of the ultimate violence against another human being.Conservatives want the state to be violent, then, when chil-dren use violence, Conservatives wonder why they are soviolent.

The death penalty is a poor person’s penalty. Do youknow of any rich people who have been sentenced to death?

Rich people can buy their way out of the death penalty.Poor people do not have the resources to avoid the deathpenalty, and the state will not give them enough resources toproperly defend themselves, even in a life or death situation.

One thing the death penalty does accomplish is re-venge. Many people feel better when someone is executedfor a heinous crime. The fact that they may be executingan innocent person is irrelevant. A horrible crime has beencommitted and someone must die for it! The problem withrevenge is that it does not bring back to life the person whowas murdered, and after the supposed killer is executed, therelatives and friends of the crime victim may not feel asgood as thought they were going to feel. There are murders

Page 34: Perfect Evil

Death Penalty 35

I read about or hear about on television that make my bloodboil. I want to kill the murderers with my bare hands! Then,I calm down and realize that I cannot do that because if itis wrong for them to kill, it is wrong for me to kill. It isuncivilized to kill. I must be civilized, even though the mur-ders are not civilized. I must help teach our children tobe civilized.

There is a group, Murder Victims Families for Recon-ciliation, that embraces forgiveness and is against capitalpunishment, even though most members have had a lovedone murdered.

The U.S. is one of a few countries that executes juve-niles (children under age 18) and is the only Western nationto do so. We talk about human rights and we demand thatother countries, like China, improve their human rights. Yet,we continue to execute children.

Children are not like adults. Ask any parent. They donot have the same judgement, discipline, etc. They canchange when they get older, if they get older. Families, communities and governments fail children. Then, the finalfailure happens when they execute the child.

Is it the fault of children that it is so easy for them toget their hands on guns, or is it the fault of the adults whorefuse to have even reasonable gun control laws? It is thefault of the adults, but it is the children who pay the penalty.

Eyewitness identification testimony is often inaccurate.Yet, we are willing to execute someone based on this inac-curate testimony. Around 1979 several robberies occurredin Wilmington, Del. The robber was polite to the victims. He was called the ‘‘Gentlemen Bandit.’’ Bernard Paganowas identified as the culprit. He had no alibi. Bernard Pa-gano was a Catholic priest. The prosecutor had seven eye-witnesses. The trial started and the eyewitnesses identifiedhim as the bandit. However, the defense attorney hired aprivate investigator who found a man in Pennsylvania who

Page 35: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil36

confessed to the robberies. There was a movie made aboutthis trial. I hope they show it again.

There are many more instances when eyewitnesseswere wrong, especially when it came to identifying someoneof a different race. Everyone knows that eyewitnesses canbe wrong, yet we are willing to kill a human being basedon testimony that may not be accurate. It is impossible toknow when an eyewitness is wrong. They believe they haveidentified the correct person. To correct the misidentifica-tion in the future, the prisoner must be alive! If you kill theprisoner, no investigator, no confession, nothing can correctthe error.

There are many cases of evidence being faked. ATexas pathologist, Ralph R. Erdmann, worked as a contractmedical examiner for more than 40 counties. He botchedmany of autopsies, faked more than 100 others and falsifieddozens of forensic reports before a special prosecutor dis-covered his criminal activities. Erdmann pleaded guilty tofalsifying autopsies. In 1987 John T. Spencer was sentencedto 50 years to life for a double murder in New York State.Spencer was convicted largely on a fingerprint lifted byNew York State Police investigator Lt. Craig Harvey, whotestified he found it on a Formica counter at the murderscene. Harvey, one of three troopers found guilty of crimi-nal misconduct admitted that no fingerprints were found atthe scene, Harvey got Spencer’s print when Spencer wasbooked by the police.

You can never eliminate the possibility of false evi-dence. Human beings are not perfect. Maybe the policecrime lab just makes an honest mistake, but the defendantdoes not have the resources to hire an accredited lab andan expert witness of their own. You must have a perfectsystem if you are going to have the death penalty, and per-fection is not possible. People are not perfect, unless, ofcourse, you are a Conservative. Conservatives are per-fect—PERFECT EVIL.

Page 36: Perfect Evil

Death Penalty 37

There have been many innocent people sentenced todeath. A 1997 report released by the Death Penalty Infor-mation Center in Washington stated that there have been69 cases between 1973 and 1997 in which people havebeen released from death row because they were improperlyconvicted or new evidence was discovered after they weresentenced to death.

In 1996 a Northwestern University professor, DavidProtess, and some of his students worked on a class project. They invetigated the convictions of three men from Illinoiswho had been in jail 18 years for murder. One of them hadbeen sentenced to death. Through the efforts of the professorand his students, all three men were released based onDNA evidence.

What kind of justice system do we have that requiresSTUDENTS AND A PROFESSOR to find evidence to freeinnocent prisoners? Shouldn’t the justice system do that?

Due to new DNA testing, more people are being re-leased from death row. Between 1973 and 1999, 81 menand one woman sentenced to die have been released.

What if you have a Confession? Do you have thekiller? Take the confession of Gary Gauger. Gauger wasconvicted of the 1993 murders of his parents, on their farmin Richmond, Ill. The police had no eyewitnesses or physi-cal evidence to tie Gauger to the crime. Gauger was ques-tioned nonstop for 18 hours without a lawyer and theinterrogation was not recorded. Gauger said he was ex-hausted and he began thinking he might have killed hisparents in a blackout, even saying it at one point but thenhe insisted that he did not committed the crime. He wasconvicted based on his confession and sentenced to death.Through the efforts of Gauger’s sister, Larry Marshall tookthe case and set Gauger free in 1996. A member of theOutlaws motorcycle gang confessed that he and an accom-plice killed the couple in a robbery.

Page 37: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil38

As of March, 2000 a Los Angeles investigtion foundthat 99 people were framed by police. Police falsified re-ports and gave false testimony. Convictions were over-turned.

Most police are honest, but you will always find a fewthat are not. This can’t be prevented.

Between 1972 and 2000, 21 people sentenced to diein Florida have been freed from death row.

Yet Florida continues to execute prisoners!Between 1987 and 2000, 13 men have been freed from

Illinois’ death row. Gov. George Ryan blocked all execu-tions pending a special investigation to review Illinois’death penalty procedures. Ryan will create a special panelto find out why so many innocent men were convicted andsentenced to die.

If Gov. Ryan reads this chapter, he will better under-stand that the flaws in the death penalty systems will alwaysexist as long as human beings create the system.

Did you know that in 33 states, as of August, 1999,new evidence can’t be introduced in a criminal case morethan six months after the final judgment in state court? Thatmakes no sense at all. Those states should change their laws.

One thing that is hard to believe, that the criminaljustice system allows, is jailhouse informant testimony.Prisoners come forward and say that a fellow prisoner hastold them that he or she has committed a crime, and theyare willing to testify against their fellow prisoner. Now, doyou believe they are willing to testify against a fellow pris-oner for nothing? No, they expect to get a reduction intheir sentence for their testimony. Sometimes they get thereduction soon after they testify, and sometimes they get itlater. Many times, years later, the informant recants theirtestimony and admit they just did it to get their sentencereduced. Prosecutors then often say they believe the originaltestimony and that the informant is now lying about their

Page 38: Perfect Evil

Death Penalty 39

new testimony. So, they are liars now, but the liar was nota liar when they first testified?

There is an assumption that the truth comes out inprison. Why would you confess to a crime in prison? Itdoesn’t make any sense that you would tell anyone you arethe killer, and especially another prisoner. Everyone knowsthere are lots of jailhouse informants. This testimony shouldnever be allowed in any court. It is totally unreliable. Whatkind of system allows such testimony? One that wants aconviction at any price! The murder has been solved! Thepolice are happy, the prosecutor is happy, the public ishappy, everybody is happy—except the innocent personwho has been wrongfully convicted.

There were 87 people freed from death row for theperiod between 1973 and 2000, according to the DeathPenalty Information Center. The number just keepsgrowing.

New Hampshire lawmakers voted to repeal the deathpenalty in May, 2000. However, Governor Jeanne Shaheenvetoed the repeal bill.

It takes a brave politician to go against the deathpenalty.

Governors and clemency/parole boards have the powerto commute death penalty sentences, but rarely do. Thereis no real clemency system. It is political suicide to let aconvicted prisoner escape the death penalty. Politicians andboards appointed by politicians know they cannot commutea death sentence, because opponents in the next election willsay they are soft on crime and they will not get reelected orreappointed. Clemency systems are a farce. This so-calledprotection against killing the wrong person does not evenexist!

Any time you find a politician that is against the deathpenalty, you have to have a great deal of respect for thatperson. In 1913, Mary Phagen was murdered. Leo Frank

Page 39: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil40

was convicted of the murder. Georgia Governor John Sla-ton, who was about to run for the U.S. Senate, investigatedthe murder and figured out that someone else had committedthe crime. The governor commuted the death sentence. Un-fortunately, Leo Frank was taken from a prison farm andlynched by a mob. The mob would have lynched the Gover-nor, too, if he hadn’t left his office and the state. Needlessto say, he did not run for the U.S. Senate. There was a 1988movie made about this event called The Murder of MaryPhagen. John Slaton was a man of great courage. He wasa great American.

As of June, 2000, Texas had executed over 100 prison-ers since Gov. George W. Bush was elected governor. Gov-ernor Bush did not think any innocent people had beenexecuted while he was governor.

Governor Bush had a perfect system, run by perfectpeople and led by a perfect governor. Isn’t that amazing!

Conservatives are always trying to cut the amount ofmoney given to criminal defense and they want to speed upexecutions. This means that the chances of executing aninnocent person are increased. Actually, to speed up execu-tions, you would have to put a lot more money into the courtsystem to pay for better defense attorneys, investigators, appeals, more judges, etc. However, cutting money andspeeding up executions are popular with voters. So, you killa few innocent people! No big deal! Unless it is you or arelative or a friend that is being executed for a crime theydid not commit.

Can you imagine anything more horrible than beingon death row and knowing you are innocent, but you do nothave the resources to prove your innocence that the policeand the prosecutor had to prove your ‘‘guilt’’?

Imagine you are home with a relative watching T.V.At the same time, a friend of yours is robbing and killingsomeone. The police have some evidence and pick up your

Page 40: Perfect Evil

Death Penalty 41

friend for questioning. The police don’t have enough evi-dence to convict your friend, so they work very hard for aconfession. They tell him that he will not get the deathpenalty if he confesses. To avoid the death penalty, yourfriend says he was there, but you are the killer; he was justthere as a witness who did nothing. He gives the police allthe details about the killing. The details he gives are correct,of course, because he did the killing.

You go to trial for murder. The police have an eyewit-ness, the actual killer. Your relative testifies that you werehome when the murder was committed. The jury believesyour friend, not your relative, because your relative wouldprobably lie to save your life. You are found guilty. Whenthe jury and the judge need to decide if you get life withoutparole or the death penalty, they are swayed by the fact thatyou show no remorse, did not admit to the killing, and donot ask for forgiveness. Why would you say any of thosethings? You are innocent! You are given the death penaltyand executed.

You don’t think this could happen to you? Just imagineif we add a few more factors to your case besides yourfriend’s testimony: the prosecutor had some bad or fakedforensic evidence to use against you; they had a police offi-cer who lied or made a mistake; the prosecutor withheldevidence, on purpose or accidentally, that would havehelped your case; they had a jailhouse informant that saidyou told him you were the killer; your defense attorney wasinferior or inexperienced, etc. You cannot prevent any ofthese things from happening. People want to solve the mur-der. People want to get promoted. People want to get electedto higher office. People want to get out of jail early. Andpeople want an execution so they feel justice has beenserved.

What you must understand is that because of all theproblems that exist and will always exist with any systemcreated by human beings, you can never be sure you are

Page 41: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil42

not killing an innocent person when a death row inmate isexecuted. The system has to be perfect if you are going tokill people, which is impossible because we are not perfect.Whenever we think we are perfect, disaster is sure to follow.

POPULATION AND THEENVIRONMENT

What will be the future human population figure on Earth? Many people have different ideas of what that numbershould be, for different reasons. Some people talk aboutZero Population Growth (ZPG), or even the possibility ofthe population decreasing, but the correct figure is zero.

There are only two ways to leave this planet—die orleave in a spaceship. This planet will cease to exist as weknow it some day in the future, and anyone who says theycan predict when it will happen is either a liar or a fool. Some say that all life will end when the sun gets hotter andturns Earth into another Venus. Some say it will end whenan asteroid hits the Earth or a black hole sucks us in. Somesay it will be caused by overpopulation and pollution. Somesay it could happen through war, although the likelihood ofthat happening has been reduced. Some say it could happenby a biological accident or warhead. The truth is, no oneknows when life on earth will cease. But, I can tell you forsure that it will. We have to leave this planet or die. Thequestion’s are, do we have enough time, and will we committhe resources necessary for enough humans to leave thisplanet so our species can survive? The human populationon Earth will be reduced to zero, one way or another.

Another absolute certaintly is that the Earth has finiteresources, such as oil, gas, land, water, etc., and renewableresources such as trees/plants, air, food/fish, etc., which arenot renewing themselves as fast as they used to becausethere are more people every day than the day before, and

43

Page 43: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil44

they all want to consume more of everything. We are notprepared for anything ending or running out. Conservativestell you there is no problem; you should not worry. Anyone, they say who warns you of a future problem is exaggeratingand probably a little crazy. God will take care of everything. There is plenty of land on earth to handle billions morepeople. There is no population problem. Corporations mustnot have too many restrictions because they provide jobs.Corporations can be trusted to do the right thing when itcomes to the environment. Conservatives are a real andpresent danger because they actually get people to believethese ideas.

It took 123 years for the population to increase from1 billion to 2 billion, then it took 33 years to reach 3 billion,14 years to reach 4 billion and 13 years to reach 5 billion.

Since 1800, life expectancy has risen from 27 yearsto 76 years. Continued progress in medicine can raise iteven higher.

In India, the population growth rate has dropped. How-ever, there are about 72,000 Indians born every day, andthe population increses by about 16 million a year.

Conservatives love to quote declining growth rates. What they don’t want you to understand is that there areso many people on earth already, even a declining growthrate adds millions to the Earth’s population every year.

It took 12 years for the earth’s population to reach 6billion, in 1999. There is no end in sight. There is a limiton how many people this planet can handle.

Scientists have deciphered part of the human geneticcode that plays a role in the body’s immune system. Thismay lead to improvements in organ transplants and improveour ability to fight various diseases. AIDS and Alzheimer’svaccines are being tested. No one knows what scientistswill cure in the future.

Some of the population figures predicted in the futuremay not be calculating in the fact that people may live

Page 44: Perfect Evil

Population and the Environment 45

longer in the future. If that happens, the population maygrow at an even faster rate.

Imagine what will happen to the popultion if we startcloning humans.

Conservatives like to say that there is plenty of landon the planet for many more people. They say that everyoneliving now could fit in the State of Texas. Most peoplealready live in cities. We could make Texas one big city. But that is missing the point. The problem is not space, theproblem is resources. Conservatives do not want you tothink. If you think, you would understand that it takes a lotof land, oil, gas, clean water, trees, plants that produceoxygen, food, breathable air, housing, schools, roads, healthcare, landfills for garbage, etc., for every person living andthose who will be born in the future.

Global warming, the release of carbon dioxide andother gases (greenhouse gases) into the atmosphere wherethey trap heat from the sun just like a greenhouse and raisethe temperature of the Earth, has been argued for years.Pollution from cars, factories, etc., contribute to the increasein greenhouse gases.

In December 1997, the United States and 37 othercountries agreed in Kyoto, Japan, to binding reductions intheir greenhouse gas emissions (carbon dioxide releasedfrom burning coal and gas, from power plants, cars, etc.)by 2012. The United States has not ratified the agreement.Conservatives are opposed to this treaty.

President Clinton fought against riders the RepublicanCongress put in spending bills that benefited certain indus-tries at the expense of the environment and prevented theClinton administration from reaching agreements with vari-ous countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions blamedfor global warming.

Let’s hope a Conservative president does not allowa Conservative Congress to do whatever it wants to theenvironment in the name of business and profits.

Page 45: Perfect Evil

The U.N.’s environmental agency issued a report‘‘Global Environment Outlook 2000’’. They found higherlevels of nitrogen in the water supply, eighty percent of theworld’s forest cover has been cleared or degraded, a quarterof mammals species are at risk of extinction, and half theworld’s coral reefs endangered.

Experts debate over how fast the world’s climate canchange. Some say it will take hundreds or thousands ofyears. Some say it could only take decades. Some say thelast ice age ended fairly quickly and the climate could sud-denly change under the right conditions. Global warming, caused by humans, could be one of those conditions.

Damage to the ozone layer, in the upper atmosphere, was first noticed in the colder Antarctic. Ozone blocks thesun’s ultrviolet rays that can cause cancer. Concern that thedamage could spread led to a ban on refrigerants and spraypropellants that destroy ozone. Damage to the ozone layerhas been recorded over the North Pole also. We must neverallow anyone to say this problem has been solved. We mustcontinue to monitor the ozone and take any appropriateaction necessary to preserve this protective layer.

The Arctic ice cover decreased by about 5% between1978 and 1995, as stated in a study by Norwegian research-ers in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

B10A is an iceberg which is 38 miles long and 13miles wide. It is one of the largest icebergs to ever breakaway from Antarctica. This and other large icebergs couldbe the result of global warming,.

The melting of the Antarctic ice sheet could raise theworld’s sea level by several feet.

Global warming may be accelerating the melting pro-cess or global warming could prevent the process from re-versing itself.

Do not forget about the Arctic ice cap. It may be melt-ing due to global warming also. It will only add to theproblem facing costal communities.

Page 46: Perfect Evil

Population and the Environment 47

There are millions of people suffering from chronichunger on this planet. Many of these people live in devel-oping countries. Large popultions stretch these countries re-sources.

The hunger problem is not going to be solved any timesoon. If the hunger problem is getting worse in most coun-tries now, what is going to happen when the populationcontinues to grow?

We have the same problem with clean drinking water. We are used to having clean water and assume it will con-tinue to be safe in the future. As the world population con-tinues to increase, however, not only must we maintain thecurrent clean supply, we must increase the amount of drink-able water every year. Some communities are already expe-riencing water shortages. Conservatives are not real goodat solving future problems. They don’t even like to addresscurrent problems, let alone future problems, especially if itis going to cost businesses money, hurt profits or increasetaxes. They normally wait until the problem is so bad theyfinally have to address it. There is a real danger when youwait to the last second to fix environmental problems, be-cause then it may too late to reverse a disaster.

Scientists have reported the discovery of new diseasesthat affect marine mammals. They also found large in-creases in algae in our oceans. The marine ecosystem ischanging and we need to know why and how it is changing.

Do you think it has something to do with humansdumping toxic organic pollutants into the world’s oceans?Conservatives seem to think that the oceans are really bigplaces. There’s no need to worry about any problems be-cause the oceans will fix themselves. Well, they might fixthemselves if we stop dumping pollutants in them, but withthe population growing, we will probably dump even morestuff in them.

Let’s see if you can figure out this problem: Each yearthere are more humans taking up more space and using

Page 47: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil48

more resources. Also, each year there are fewer trees andplants. Trees and plants produce oxygen. People breath oxy-gen to stay alive. Does anyone else besides me see a prob-lem looming in the future? Don’t worry, Conservatives willtell you there is lots of oxygen.

Another problem caused by deforestation is flashfloods. When we destroy a forest, erosion of topsoil andvegetation leads to flash flooding.

In 1997, the World Wildlife Fund’s Forests for LifeCampaign released a survey showing that there were 20billion acres of forest existing in the world 8,000 years agoand now there is only 7.5 billion acres.

Conservatives will tell you that we can just grow newtrees. The problem with that idea is that it takes a long timeto grow trees, and there are more people every year thatwant to use those trees for houses, paper, etc.

I hope you have heard about the declining populationof frogs, toads and salamanders. Amphibians are also suf-fering from an increase in deformities such as missing legs, extra legs, missing eyes, etc. Researchers say there are vari-ous causes. Some say the thinning ozone layer is allowingmore dangerous ultraviolet light to reach the Earth’ssurface.

Some researchers say an increase in retinoids, foundin water samples, are affecting amphibians. Retinoids arecompounds that include retinoic acid.

Researchers say toxics, such as pesticides, have an af-fect on amphibians.

Other reserchers say defects in frogs are caused by atrematode, which is a parasitic worm. Fertilizer runoff maybe causing the water snail population to increase and thewater snail is a host of the trematode. Consequently, thereare more trematodes to attack frogs. Or, maybe frogs areweaker from pollution, which makes it easier for the wormto attack them.

Page 48: Perfect Evil

Population and the Environment 49

Why should you care what happens to amphibians?Because what happens to amphibians is an indication ofwhat can happen to humans.

Many species are already extinct and many more arecurrently threatened. Even our closest relatives—gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans—are endangered. As the hu-man popultion grows, other species habitats are destroyed. There is no end to the human need for more and more re-sources.

Why should you care if species die off? As each spe-cies becomes extinct, we come closer to the extinction ofthe last species—humans. Do you think you can let eachspecies die off one by one and not destroy the ecosystemat the same time?

As the world’s economy improves, the environmentsuffers. You can not continue to destroy the environmentwithout having a disastrous effect on available resourcesand the economy in the future.

If our species lasts long enough to get off of this planetbefore it is destroyed by us or something else, like an aster-oid, there will be Conservative religious people who willnot want to leave their holy shrines, their holy land, or theirplanet. They probably will believe that God will save themat the last moment. Don’t argue with them or force them toleave. Let them stay and die. You are better off withoutthem.

RELIGION

How many religions are there? When you add all the differ-ent major religions, all the divisions, sects or denomina-tions, and all the minor religions and cults, there must behundreds. Each one is absolutely positive that their religionis the correct one and everyone else has the wrong religion. They are going to heaven, or wherever, and all the peoplewho subscribe to other religious beliefs are not going to gowhere they think they are going. Sometimes, to prove theyhave the right religion, they kill people of other religions!

Now, what are the mathematical odds that you havethe right religion? Also, you must follow all the rules ofthe right religion exactly and correctly. The odds are verylong that you have the correct religion, the correct divisionof that religion and follow the rules perfectly. Yet, everyoneis sure they have the right one.

Some people change religions. They had the right reli-gion before, but now the new religion is the absolutelycorrect one. Therefore, the first religion must have beenwrong. What about all the people who still believe in thefirst religion? They all must be wrong and will have tochange to the new religion. How do you know the newreligion is the correct one and the person who switched didnot make a mistake? What are the odds on that? Get yourcalculators out!

How can anyone who thinks about these things be surethey have the correct religion? I guess the answer is, youjust don’t think about these things. You are just supposedto believe in a religion, and should not question the author-ity of that religion.

50

Page 50: Perfect Evil

Religion 51

When you are a child, you are taught to believe inSanta Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, God (orsomething similar) and many other things you do not ques-tion as a child. As you became an adult, you start to questionvarious things and realize that many of them are not true. You stop believing in things you once thought were real.

Most religions offer you life after death. You don’treally die when you die; you live on in some form some-where else—If you pick the correct religion. Everyone isafraid of dying. It is hard, if not impossible, to reject anoffer of life after death. Very few people are able to turndown that offer from one organization or another. It is anoffer you can’t refuse.

My problem with religion began when I started to askquestions. The worst answer I received was when I wastold that there was no answer, you just must believe andstop asking questions. Religion is always right, and even ifit is proven wrong, it is still right about everything else. Ifit is proven wrong again, it is still right about everythingelse. You get the idea: no matter how many times religionis proven wrong, it has to be right about everything else oryou don’t get to go where you want to go when you die. Itis all so illogical to me that nothing they say now can getme to believe in any religion.

The Crusades were the Christian military expeditionsto recapture the Holy Land from the Muslims. They startedin the 11th century and ended in the 14th century. Theyeven had a Children’s Crusade in 1212, in which thousandsof children died from hunger and disease or were sold intoslavery. Eventually, the Christians lost everything and wereforced out of the Holy Land.

A lot of people died for nothing during the crusades.Christians like to rationalize events by saying ‘‘it’s God’swill.’’ I guess God was not with them when they lost theCrusades. The Christians were wrong on that one.

Page 51: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil52

The Inquisition, medieval church courts, occurred inthe Middle Ages. They used physical torture, like the rack, burning with live coals, etc, to find heretics. If you deniedthe charges and were found guilty, you could be burned atthe stake.

The leaders of the Inquisition were sure they wereright. It sounds crazy now, but religion is a little crazy ifyou think about it. It’s better not to think about it or askany questions.

In 1600 philospher and priest Giordano Bruno wasaccused of being a heretic. Bruno was a contemporary ofGalileo and believd that the Earth was not the center of theuniverse and the universe may be infinite. Bruno wasburned at the stake by the Inquisition.

The Christians were just a little wrong on that one.Does this make you wonder how many other things theyare wrong about?

Galileo Galilei was a 17th-century astronomer. He wastried for heresy and forced to recant such concepts as theEarth moves. In 1992 the Catholic Church finally admittedthat it was wrong to condemn Galileo.

Even when science proves that a religious idea iswrong, religion does not like to admit it. Religion, of course,is right about everything else, however, or so they wouldhave you believe.

This could not happen in the United States, but it did. From March to September 1692, the Salem Witch Trialsoccurred in Salem Village, Mass., U.S.A. They hanged 19Witches and stoned one other to death.

You have to be a very fervent religious adherent tobelieve in witches and do such terrible things. Since I amnot religious, I do not believe in witches and would neverdo what they did. The religious people were just a tad wrongon this one, but they must be right on everything else. Yousee, they are perfect—PERFECT EVIL.

Page 52: Perfect Evil

Religion 53

When the AIDS epidemic started, Conservatives saidit was a gay disease. Conservative politicians either wereafraid to take any action or condemned gays openly, thusdelaying research or assistance. Religious Conservativeslike Rev. Jerry Falwell said; ‘‘A Gay plague is sweepingacross our country. You cannot fool God. You break all ofhis laws and God Almighty will judge you.’’ By the timePresident Reagan made his first speech on AIDS more than25,000 Americans had died. The movie, And The BandPlayed On shows in detail what happened at the beginningof the AIDS epedemic. Every child should watch this movieto understand how evil and mean Conservatives can be,how they can twist the truth and hurt, or even kill, people.

The truth was AIDS was an infectious disease, whichcould be passed to any human by body fluids. It had nothingto do with God being against homosexuals. Gays and non-gays could get the disease through blood transfusions, sex, contaminated needles, etc.

Hemophiliacs, people who had operations, intravenousdrug users, hospital workers, sexual partners of anyone whowas infected, babies from their mothers, etc, could getAIDS.

Religious Conservatives were wrong when they saidAIDS was a gay plague. Of course, there was no penaltypaid by the Conservatives for their error. They just pretendit was no big deal or they ignore the fact that they werewrong again. You can’t attack them, because you want lifeafter death. No matter how wrong they are or how meanthey are, they always get away with it.

On September 13, 2001 Rev. Pat Robertson had Rev.Jerry Falwell as his guest on The 700 Club T.V. show. Theysaid that the September 11 terrorist attacks on the WorldTrade Center and the Pentagon were probably whatAmerica deserved. They suggested that God had withdrawnsupport of America because of abortionists, gays, lesbians,

Page 53: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil54

feminists, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), por-nography, secular schools and courts, etc.

This was an insult to all the decent and innocent peoplewho died or were injured, including relatives and friends,on September 11. It is hard to believe anyone believes any-thing these Conservatives say.

Conservatives preach hate, just like terrorists preachhate. People are hurt and even killed because of what Con-servatives preach.

There have been many instances in history where peo-ple of different religions have killed each other solely be-cause their religious beliefs were different. It never seemsto change or stop. They will probably keep killing eachother forever.

The Israeli Jews and Arab Palestinians have been kill-ing each other for years.

In 1996 Bosnian officials found mass graves of Mus-lims that were massacred by Serbs. Men, women and chil-dren were killed because of their religion.

The killings in Northern Ireland by both Catholics andProtestants (both are Christians) were particularly despica-ble in July, 1998. Three brothers burned to death in an arsonattack. A neighbor reported hearing 10-year-old Richard, 9-year-old Mark and 7-year-old Jason Quinn screaming asthe fire destroyed their home in Ballymoney. Their Catholicmother and her Protestant boyfriend escaped, but could notrescue the brothers. Who killed them? Religion killed them.

How religious people can rationalize what they do al-ways amazes me. The evil they can do knows no bounds.

In February, 1999 it was reported that over 100 peoplehad been killed in a month of religious riots in the easternIndonesian province of Maluku. Violence between Muslimsand Christians is worsening. As of January 2000, at least2,000 people have died in Indonesia. Since 90 percent ofthe people are Muslims, Christians fear for their lives.

In the southern Philippines militants take hostages. Therebels demand money and the creation of an Islamic state.

It just goes on and on.Jim Jones created his ‘‘Peoples Temple.’’ Jones moved

his followers to Jonestown, Guyana. After a visit by U.S.Rep. Leo Ryan, D-Calif., on Nov. 18, 1978, Jones wasafraid he was going to be exposed as a tyrant. Jones senthis men after Ryan. They killed Ryan and four others asthey were trying to board a plane. Then, Jones convinced900 followers to drink cyanide-laced punch. Almost every-one died in the mass suicide-murder. Most took the poison, but some people were forcibly injected with poison, babieshad poison punch squirted into their mouths, some followerswere shot and Jones was shot through his head.

David Koresh took control of the Branch Davidians. He and his followers lived in the Waco compound nearWaco, Texas. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco andFirearms investigated Koresh for weapons violations andchild abuse. Federal agents were killed and wounded asthey raided Koresh’s Waco compound. A fire engulfed Kor-esh and about 80 of his people in April, 1993.

In 1995, Republicans held hearings in Washington toattack the governments’ raid on Koresh’s compound. How-ever, the Republicans’ attack on federal law enforcementagents was put on the defensive when Kiri Jewell testifiedthat, when she was 10-year-old, Koresh forced her to havesex with him. Kiri also said she was taught how to use agun to commit suicide. Conservative support of David Kor-esh was evil.

In October, 1994 at least 48 members of the Crossand Rose religious sect committed mass suicide in southernSwitzerland. Several of the victims were children. Policefound French, Swiss and Canadian passports among thedead.

In march, 1997 thirty-nine members of Heaven’s Gatecommitted suicide in San Diego County. They had to die

so they could transport themselves to a spacecraft that waslocated near the Hale-Bopp comet.

So many religions to choose from, and they are allsure they are the right one. Some of these religions aredeadly and evil.

Religions have been built around laughter, snakes, fire, almost anything will do. I guess you can get some peopleto believe in anything. Once you promise them life afterdeath, you can get them to do anything you want, no matterhow bizarre it is.

Religious people do not like Charles Darwin, a 19th-century scientist who advanced the theory of evolution. In1925, it was illegal to teach Darwin’s theory in school. JohnScopes, a teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, volunteered tochallenge the law and the ‘‘Scopes Monkey Trial’’ fol-lowed. The right to think and speak was on trial. ClarenceDarrow defended Scopes. Scopes lost and was fined$100.00, but the verdict was overturned on appeal.

Scopes was supposed to teach the divine creation ofman. The Bible was perfect, and evolution was wrong. Mostpeople think this is a closed issue, that it is okay to teachevolution, but, Conservatives continue to attack evolution.Conservatives do not like people who think or have ideasthat are different from their beliefs. We are all supposed tothink as they do, but it is dangerous to any free nation tohave a group of people who want to suppress science andthought. What makes us different from animals is our abilityto think and reason.

In August, 1999 the Kansas Board of Education re-jected evolution as a scientific principle. The board votedto eliminate evolution as an underlying principle of biologyand other sciences.

In 2000 researchers reported finding a new fossil whichindicates that humans evolved from an ancestor that walkedon its knuckles like gorillas. So, maybe humans did notcome down from the trees and start to walk upright.

Page 56: Perfect Evil

Religion 57

Researchers are discovering new things all the timeand will discover more in the future. No one knows exactlywhat they will find.

Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution may or may notbe absolutely correct. Time, science and history will proveif it is correct or not. Maybe it will be proven to be partiallycorrect or lead us to a new theory. What is scary to me isthe Conservatives’ censorship of thought. The idea that onlycreationism must be taught in schools is wrong. No schoolshould stop teaching evolution, or any other scientific the-ory, just because Conservatives don’t like it. Religious Con-servatives think they are perfect, but they are not perfect. They have been proven wrong many times.

In 1998 House Republicans, in Washington, tried topass a law to allow the posting of the Ten Commandmentsin public places. This was a reaction to an Alabama judgebeing ordered by the courts to take down a copy of theTen Commandments he had on his courtroom wall. Thecourtroom is public property. Of course, which biblical iner-pretation of the Commandments should be posted in pub-lic places?

This would not ‘‘restore our religious liberties.’’ Tothe contrary, this would promote one religion in this coun-try. What about the other religions? Can they also post theirrules in courtrooms and other public places? How can weallow just one set of religious rules to be posted and thentell every other religion that not only are they not allowedto post their rules, but they and their children must look atand observe rules they may not believe in? Are judges allsupposed to be Christians now? This idea pits one religionagainst all other religions. Posting one set of religious rulesin public places is an evil idea.

Across the United States children have been forced toparticipate in Christian prayer, in classrooms, at sportingevents, pep rallies, graduation ceremonies, banquets, etc.

Page 57: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil58

Any child who did not participate would be ridiculed byother children, coaches, teachers, or administrators.

Parents and children have been forced to file lawsuitsto protect their freedom of religion. The courts have pro-vided some help to children who are a minority when theychoose not to participate in forced prayer and their parentswho do not want others telling their children when and howto pray. It is shameful that the courts have to protect childrenfrom choosing between forced prayer or being ostracized.

Conservatives are very narrow-minded. They have nounderstanding that people of other religions feel just asstrongly about their religions as Conservatives do. Otherreligions also have their own books and prayers that theybelieve are the ones everyone should read and speak. Tryingto force another religion on children of a different religionwill always hurt the children. Of course, Conservativesdon’t care who they hurt, which is a perfect descriptionof evil.

A ‘‘silent reflection’’ or a ‘‘moment of silence’’ mustmeet three standards set by the Supreme Court: it has asecular purpose, does not promote religion and does notexcessively entangle government with religion.

I don’t have a problem with a true ‘‘moment of si-lence,’’ as long as it meets the Supreme Court standards.

In June, 2000 the Supreme Court ruled that a Texasschool district’s policy of student-led prayer at footballgames violated the constitutionally required separation ofreligion and government. The two Galveston County fami-lies who sued the school district in 1995 had their identitiessealed by the courts.

Sometimes you have to hide identities from Conserva-tives because they can be very violent and vengeful people.

Conservatives claim that kids are not allowed to prayin school and at school functions. That is a lie. Kids canpray all they want as long as it does not disrupt school, andas long as they do not force their religion on other kids.

Page 58: Perfect Evil

Religion 59

If you want to force children to listen to prayer atschool and at other public gatherings, you must make surethat prayers are said for all religions. There are prayers forProtestants, Catholics, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Bud-dhists, Hindus, etc. What kind of religious freedom do youhave if most religions are not allowed to say their prayersin public, and children of various religions are forced tohear prayers that are not part of their religion?

Of course, if schools did allow public prayers for eachreligion, children would be labeled by their religion. Thiscould cause conflicts among the religions at schools andother places. Our country has always tried to have religioustolerance and not pit one religion against the other, as hap-pens in so many other countries. We know how mean peoplecan be to anyone who is labeled as ‘‘different.’’

Christian Conservatives are attacking Halloween as asatanic conspiracy. They try to get schools to ban Hallow-een activities. Some Conservatives even tie Halloween to aconspiracy to create a New World Order under the controlof the United Nations.

Conservatives are very good at seeing conspiracies, even when there are none.

Some Christians believe that Halloween is a paganritual of witches and devils. Some believe that it is thedevil’s birthday. These Christians need to ‘‘get a life.’’ Theyneed to try to deal with reality. They need to separate theirreligious beliefs from the reality of Halloween. Halloweenis about fun, parties, costumes, candy and make-believe.Stop trying to twist something good and fun into somethingevil, thereby creating evil in the process. Stop hurting chil-dren and filling their heads with sick and evil ideas.

Conservatives have even attacked the Harry Potterbooks, which were written by J. K. Rowling. Millions ofchildren love these books about a boy, a wizard’s world, good over evil etc. Conservatives say the books teach chil-dren about witchcraft and want the books banned.

Page 59: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil60

Conservatives can be so stupid. Anything they do notunderstand, they want to ban. They are always trying toban books. We must be always on guard against their evilideas or the only books in our schools will be religiousbooks. Even that won’t stop them from banning books, be-cause certain religious books of other religions will alsobe banned.

In 1998 the Southern Baptist Convention called for awife to ‘‘submit herself graciously to the servant leadershipof her husband.’’

In 2000 the Southern Baptist Convention said that‘‘While both men and women are gifted for service in thechurch, the office of pastor is limited to men.’’

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if God came down from theheavens and ‘‘He’’ turned out to be a woman? After all, women gave birth to the human race, didn’t they?

In 2000 Bob Jones University dropped its ban on inter-racial dating due to the criticism which followed GeorgeW. Bush’s visit to the school. Bush apologized after hisvisit because he did not criticize the school’s anti-Catholicviews and racial policies. The school did not allow interra-cial dating, but it started admitting black students, after itlost its tax exemption in 1983.

It would be funny, if it wasn’t so evil. Religious rules, set in stone at a fundamentalist school, changed because ofpresidential politics and tax breaks. I guess they still hateCatholics, however.

It appears that God hates many athletes and sportsteams, because God only allows one team to win the cham-pionship each year, or one driver to win the race, or oneboxer to win the fight, etc. We know this thanks to all thesports figures thanking God for their win. God apparentlydoes not like the losers. It must be difficult for those sportsfigures when they finally do lose and have to face the factthat God does not like them anymore. Maybe if they prayedharder. (Just make sure you have the correct prayer.)

Page 60: Perfect Evil

Religion 61

It is easy to understand why people want life afterdeath but if you want real life after death, you will have totransfer your memory into another human body or into amachine that will maintain your memories. We are ourmemories and thoughts. When we lose them, we lose lifeitself. When we wake up each day, we remember who weare and we have all the memories of our lifetime. Thatmakes us unique human beings, like no other human beforeor any human in the future. Even if you could clone anexact duplicate of your own body, it would be useless tocontinue life in that new body if you could not transfer yourmemories as well.

I don’t expect to convert anyone to atheism. I cannotoffer you life after death. I believe that you should live yourlife not hating or hurting people who are different than you.Religious people hate people of other religions. They hatehomosexuals, degrade women, and hate people who do notagree with them, etc. Conservatives have to create bad guysso they can be the good guys, and they can never be wrong, even when they are.

GAYS

There are homosexual (gay) myths that try to demonizegays:

1. Gays recruit straight people and make them turn gay.Wrong. A person is either gay, or not gay, or bisexual.Whatever you are is what you are, and you became whatyou are long before you became an adult. You cannotchange your sexuality like you can change religions orclothes.

Just think about who and what you are now. Whatwould it take to make you change your sexual prefer-ence? I can tell you that nothing anyone could say or dois ever going to change my sexual preference. For any-one to even suggest that they could change me is ludi-crous. A gay person cannot make you gay.

Why would a gay even try to date a straight personand risk almost certain rejection? Remember how hardit was to ask someone out on a date? Maybe you askeda mutual friend if the person you were interested in wasinterested in you. You looked for some sign that theywere interested, maybe some common interest. Yousurely would not approach someone knowing that thechances you were going to be rejected were 100%! Ifyou are a straight (heterosexual) person, can you imagineyourself asking a gay person out on a date? What makesyou think the opposite is likely to happen?

2. Don’t bend over in a public shower with a gay personpresent, because they will attack you. Wrong. This one

62

Page 62: Perfect Evil

Gays 63

is so ridiculous it is hard to believe anyone can think it.Where are the statistics showing all these imaginary at-tacks taking place? If it was actually happening, therewould be a big public outcry. Again, why would a gayrisk certain rejection or trouble with the police? Theyface enough trouble and rejection just by being gay. Thelast thing they need is to make it worse. Conservativesthink gays are sinners just because they are gay.

3. Gays are all pedophiles who want to have sex with chil-dren. Wrong. There are gays who are pedophiles, andthere are straight people who are pedophiles. In fact, there are more straight people than gays who are pedo-philes because there are more straight people than gaypeople. Being a pedophile has nothing to do with beinggay.

I stayed at a friend’s house once, who happened to begay. He showed me the local sights, including some gaybars. It was interesting. He pointed out various people heknew and filled me in on some of the nuances of the bars.At no time either at his house, at the bars, or anywhere elsedid anybody bother me in any way. Why would they? I amstraight. It is hard enough to start a relationship with some-one who has the same sexual orientation as you do.

Gays are discriminated against, just like people of cer-tain religions are discriminated against. False myths areused against religions, just as they are used against gays. For example Jews are all supposed to be rich and control theworld. This is, of course, false, but many people believe it.

Some people believe all Catholics do exactly what thePope tells them to do. That has never happened and neverwill. American Catholics especially, break the Pope’s rules. They use birth control, support the death penalty, etc. Ev-eryone in certain religions is commonly believed to be azealot. The truth is, some are zealots and some are not. Youcan get Conservatives to believe anything, because they

Page 63: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil64

believe things without question and ignore facts. They arevery good at repeating things that are not true. They neverlet facts stand in the way of a good lie.

In the movie Philadelphia Denzel Washington playedan African American lawyer who does not like gays and isafraid of AIDS. Denzel’s character meets a gay lawyer whoneeds representation, but he rejects him because he is gayand has AIDS. Later in the movie Denzel’s character real-izes the gay lawyer is being discriminated against and de-cides he must help him. This is a movie every high schoolstudent should watch.

Conservatives used black myths to demonize blackpeople, just as they use gay myths to attack gay people. Youcan always find some examples in a group’s populationthat support these myths, but when you look at the wholepopulation, you see that most of the group does not supportthe myths. If you make the effort to check out the facts, you will see the myth is simply not true.

Remember when it was illegal for black people tomarry white people? Conservatives were sure they wereright on that one. Now, interracial couples can get married, but it still is illegal for gays to get married. Marriage haseverything to do with being in love, and nothing to do withbeing gay or not.

Remember when black people were always discrimi-nated against when it came to employment? Gays now facediscrimination in employment and in many places they canlose a job just for being gay.

Remember when they called black people ‘‘niggers’’,a very mean, derogatory and hurtful name? Now, they callgays ‘‘queers,’’ ‘‘faggots,’’ etc. to hurt them. Conservativeslike to tear people down using name-calling and myths. Thatway, Conservatives can build themselves up. By saying theother people are bad people, they pose as the good people. It is really just the opposite. When they do mean and bad

Page 64: Perfect Evil

Gays 65

things, they actually lower themselves. They are just toomean and stupid to know how low they are.

There are many similarities between what Conserva-tives did to black people and other minorities, and whatthey are doing to gay people today. Conservatives need badguys, and I guess gays are it right now. They don’t havethe Russians to hate any more, so they need somebody nowto hate.

In 1973 the American Psychiatric Association and theAmerican Psychological Association stated that homosexu-ality was not a mental illness.

Homosexuals are not ‘‘sick’’ and they do not need tobe ‘‘cured’’.

The so-called ‘‘conversion’’ or ‘‘reparative’’ therapy, which tries to change gay people into straight people, hasnot been proven to work and actually hurts homosexuals. This type of ‘‘therapy’’ can cause depression in gays be-cause it assumes gays choose to be gay and are not tryingto become straight.

Current scientific evidence indicates that gays are bornwith their sexual orientation. They do not change as theyget older. There is also no evidence that sexual orientationcan be changed.

Think about it. Who would choose to be gay? Whowould want to be ostracized, hated, regjected when youapply for a job, fired from your job, beaten up or evenkilled?

Yet, conservatives still try to convince people that gayscan be ‘‘converted’’ to being straight and it is the gay per-sons’ fault for not trying to change. Therefore, anything thathappens to them is their fault.

This kind of crazy logic does not work because it startswith a false premise—gay people choose to be gay and canbe ‘‘cured’’.

This is how Conservatives with so-called good inten-tions actually hurt gay people. Conservatives say they are

Page 65: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil66

doing good, but in reality they follow an evil path. Theythink they are perfect and know what is right for gays.Conservatives are perfect—PERFECT EVIL.

In 1988 James D. Moseley was sent to jail for havingoral sex with his wife. Moseley violated Georgia’s sodomylaw. He served 18 months before being released pendingappeal. Moseley’s wife accused him of rape and sodomy.Moseley said she was using the charges to get custody ofthe children. It did not work, he was acquitted of rape andforced sodomy. However, he made a mistake by admittinghe had oral sex with his wife. He was found guilty of sod-omy without aggravation (consentual oral or anal sex) andwas sentenced to five years in jail.

I bet you never thought that you could go to jail forhaving oral or anal sex with your spouse or with someoneelse for that matter. When Conservatives use laws to goafter people they don’t like, they can get you in their net, also. That is another reason why Conservatives are so dan-gerous to freedom and democracy. They don’t really believein freedom. You must think as they do, act as they do andhate as they do. If gays are bad people for having committedsodomy, then straight people are just as bad if they commitsodomy, too. That means there are millions of bad Ameri-cans and they could go to jail, depending on what state theylive in or are visiting, and who they know or don’t know(i.e. are you rich and powerful?).

Michael Bowers was Georgia’s state attorney general. He successfully defended Georgia’s anti-sodomy law beforethe Supreme Court. He also used sodomy to jutify his with-draw of a job offer from a gay lawyer and won approvalfrom a circuit court. Bowers disclosed that, for 10 years,he had an affair with a married employee. Adultery is alsoa crime in Georgia.

Do you think the Conservative, Bowers, was prose-cuted for his crime of adultery? No way. Conservatives areready to destroy the lives of people they don’t like, but

Page 66: Perfect Evil

Gays 67

when one of their own gets caught, they start to preachforgiveness. I just love to watch the Conservative hypocritesbeg for forgiveness. They have no forgiveness for others intheir hearts, if they have one, and every once in a whilethey get a taste of their own medicine. It is hard to believethat our great country has or ever had laws against some-thing as private as consensual sex between adults. Sodomyand adultery laws are evil.

In 1995 the Florida Baptist Convention called for aboycott of the Walt Disney Co. because Disney provideshealth insurance for gay couples, produces objectionableprograming, etc. We live in a country where millions ofpeople do not have health insurance. Then a company de-cides to do a good thing by giving more Americans healthcoverage. I thought it was a good idea.

Conservatives objected to Disney-owned ABC’s T.V.show Ellen whose star and title character were lesbian.

Conservatives take a good thing and make it a badthing. More Americans with health coverage is a good thing, but Conservatives turn it into a bad thing. A television showthat shows that gays are not bad people is a good thing, butConservatives don’t want you to think of gays as good peo-ple. They want you to hate them.

Lynn Johnston, creator of the ‘‘For Better or forWorse’’ comic strip, angered some Conservative readersand editors when she revealed that one of her characterswas gay. A few newspapers will not run her strip if the gaycharacter is in it.

Maybe Conservatives think straight people will be-come gay if they read a comic about a gay person. Thepower of the newspaper can be overwhelming, you know.Or maybe Conservatives are just NUTS!

In 1998, religious leader Pat Robertson was not happythat Orlando, FL flew rainbow flags from utility poles dur-ing the Gay Days celebration. So, on his June 8 The 700Club T.V. show, Robertson said ‘‘I would warn Orlando

Page 67: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil68

that you’re right in the way of some serious hurricanes, andI don’t think I’d be waving those flags in God’s face if Iwere you.’’

I hope when the hurricanes hit, and of course theywill—in Florida it’s not exactly news—the storms can pickout the Conservatives from the Liberals. We wouldn’t wantany good Conservatives getting hurt by accident. If you area Conservative and the hurricane does any damage or harmto you, make sure you contact Pat for reimbursement. I’min trouble because I like rainbows and rainbow colors. Doesthat mean I am going to become gay?

In 1999 the Rev. Jerry Falwell criticized the Teletub-bies children’s TV show in his magazine National LibertyJournal. Tinky Winky is a character who carries a magicbag. Falwell said he was carrying a purse, is purple (a gaycolor) and has a triangle shaped antenna on his head (agay symbol). I guess Falwell thinks the show will influencechildren. Maybe kids will learn to like gay people insteadof hating them. Conservatives do not want children to thinkof gay people as normal people, because that could changestraight children into gay children. This is just twisted logic.

Conservatives are just plain mean when they attack achildren’s program. If you try hard enough, you can seesymbols everywhere. Conservatives are paranoid. They arethe ones who are mentally ill, not gays.

In 1999 Georgia’s Southern Baptist convention votedto expel two churches that let homosexuals serve as leadersand allowed a gay wedding. Previously, the Texas SouthernBaptist state convention expelled a church due to the issueof homosexuality.

Conservatives cannot allow dissension or free thought. They can not tolerate anyone who does not think exactlyas they do. They are right, and everyone else is wrong, andthey will punish anyone who dares to disagree.

In 1996 the Salt Lake City Board of Education bannedall nonacademic clubs. Federal law requires public schools

Page 68: Perfect Evil

Gays 69

to allow all clubs or no clubs. The board did not want gay-lesbian students to start a club. At East High School someof the clubs that had to disband were the Chess Club, theComputer Club, the Hispanic Club, Young Republicans,Young Democrats, the Ski Club, Bible Clubs, etc. The socialcomponet of school life has been destroyed.

Conservatives do not care who they hurt, even if it’schildren. People who hurt children are very evil people. Itis easy to see the evil in communism, dictators, terrorists, etc., but it is harder to see the evil in Conservatives becausethey hide behind the idea that they are doing the right thing. They would destroy freedom in the U.S., if they had to, toenforce their hatred and bigotry. They are the only realthreat to freedom and democracy in this country. Otherthreats we can see clearly and defeat with resolve. Theseare what some people call ‘‘clear and present dangers.’’Sometimes it is very hard to see the real danger, because itis disguised as ‘‘good.’’

In 1995, and at other times, Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C.,who has fought homosexual rights, wanted to reduce theamount of federal money spent on AIDS sufferers. Helmssaid that their ‘‘deliberate, disgusting, revolting conduct’’caused their disease.

Let us examine some of the ‘‘deliberate, disgusting, revolting conduct’’ according to Jesse ‘‘The All-Knowing’’Helms. Adults and children have AIDS due to blood trans-fusions performed before the blood supply was safe. Hospi-tal workers were accidentally infected by AIDS-contaminated needles. Babies got AIDS from their mothersand were born with the disease. Innocent spouses got AIDSfrom their husband or wife through no fault of their own.You get the idea, AIDS is not a homosexual disease andnever has been.

Conservatives could care less about who gets hurtwhen they go after gays. The delay in AIDS research rightfrom the start when AIDS was discovered cost many people

Page 69: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil70

their lives. What if the next fatal virus is found in the gaycommunity first and is as easy to contract as the commoncold? Will the Conservatives condemn us all to death bymaking sure the government does almost nothing until it istoo late?

The military’s ‘‘don’t ask, don’t tell’’ policy says gaysin the military must keep their sexual orientation private andbars commanders from asking about homosexual conductunless they have credible information that it has occurred.Gays can be discharged for engaging in homosexual acts.

This policy has caused many problems and needs tobe modified. It still assumes gays are bad people and thatthe gay myths are true, especially the one about gays molest-ing and accosting straight people. It’s simply ridiculous.

Remember what was going to happen to the militaryif they let black people be anything but cooks? Conserva-tives were wrong then, as usual. Remember what was goingto happen if they let women be anything but clerks? Conser-vatives were wrong there, again. Now, they are wrong aboutgays. But Conservatives are never wrong, no matter howmany times they are wrong. Maybe they think the law ofaverages means that they will get something right someday, but I don’t think so!

In 1998 two men robbed Matthew Shepard, a gay Uni-versity of Wyoming college student. They also beat him sev-erly and tied him to a fence. He died at a hospital in FortCollins, Colorado. One of the reasons the murderers choseShepard was because he was gay.

You don’t need to tie someone to a fence and beat himto death just to rob him. This was an expression of pure hatethat these two men learned from ‘‘good’’ Conservatives.

Conservative demonstrators picketed Shepard’s me-morial service. One sign they carried said, ‘‘God HatesFags.’’

In 1999 two California brothers were charged withshooting a gay couple. Both of the gay men died. One of

Page 70: Perfect Evil

Gays 71

the brothers, Benjamin Matthew Williams said ‘‘I’m notguilty of murder; I’m guilty of obeying the laws of theCreator.’’

Conservatives say that they are not responsible forpeople who commit these crazy acts, but, in fact, they arethe ones who incite people with their anti-gay rhetoric. Thatis one of the things that makes Conservatives so dangerous. They think they can attack a group of people verbally, andany violence that happens to that group is not their fault. They are wrong. You are responsible for what you say, especially when it harms other people. The people you hurtshould, at least, be able to sue you for inflaming people tocommit harmful acts. That way, if you can’t put Conserva-tives in jail for the harmful things they say, maybe you cantake their money away from them.

In 2000 the Senate approved civil-rights legislationthat would add sexual orientation, gender and disability tothe current list of federal hate crimes. The current list in-cludes race, religion or national origin. The bill was sent tothe House where House Majority Leader Richard Armey,R-Texas, said he did not expect the House to consider thelegislation.

Conservatives will prevent this from becoming law.Only a Democratic congress and a Democratic presidentcan assure passage of this legislation.

There could come a time when gay people will belooked upon as an important factor in the survival of thehuman race. When overpopulation becomes a severe prob-lem, gays will not be adding to the problem because theycannot produce children. Of course, Conservatives will stillfind a way to attack them, but it will be an interesting turnof events.

THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCEAND THE FLAG

In 1998 MaryKait Durkee, a high school student inCalifornia, refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Shebelieved America had a lot of problems and did not believethe message as stated by the Pledge was correct. Her mothertried to explain to school officials that MaryKait had herpermission not to say the Pledge. MaryKait had to standwhen the Pledge was said by the other students to avoidfurther school punishment.

When you have children say the same thing over andover, every day, it tends to lose its meaning. When youforce children to say something every day that they do notbelieve in, you create the opposite effect of the one youwant. Not only do they not believe what they are saying, but they begin to hate it. How can you possibly believe thatforcing them to say it will make them believe in it? Howcan you believe that forcing children to say what you believein is freedom?

I like the Pledge of Allegiance, aside from the mentionof God. It is something that should be taught in class, butthere should be two pledges—one with God and one with-out, like when you swear to tell the truth in a court of law.But I would never force a child or anyone else to say thepledge just because I like it. You see, unlike Conservatives,I believe in freedom, even if sometimes I don’t agree withwhat another person is doing or not doing. I respect theirright of free expression.

72

Page 72: Perfect Evil

The Pledge of Allegiance and the Flag 73

Over the years various conservative Presidents andother Conservative politicians have tried to pass legislationto ban the burning of the American flag by protestors. Politi-cians have also tried to amend the American Constitutionto make flag desecration a crime.

The Supreme Court has ruled that flag burning is pro-tected by the First Amendment. It is the free expression of anindividual or a group that may be different from your views.

If you examine the Declaration of Independence, theU.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights you will see thatfreedom and free speach were very important to Americans. You better have a good reason to take that freedom awayfrom Americans. The government should never prohibit thefree expression of ideas.

If the American flag does not represent freedom, whatdoes it represent—government repression of free thoughtand speech?

There are very few cases of flag desecration inAmerica. Most of the time they are protesting something ourgovernment has done, which they perceive as evil or wrong.

Also, how do you define flag desecration? If you oryour children wear items that have the flag printed on them, will you be arrested? Can you eat off of a plate with theflag on it or use a napkin with the flag on it?

Conservatives do not like freedom. They want us allto conform to their ideas. When you allow Conservativesto take even a little freedom from us, you allow them to dowhat no other country or army could force us to do—giveup freedom. That is why Conservatives are so dangerous. The danger to our freedom will come from within, not fromanother country where we see the danger and can defeatit easily.

What will Conservatives hate next and tell us to giveaway our freedoms for? I don’t like flag burners, but Ican understand why someone would burn it to protest theVietnam War. I supported the men and women who werein our military during that war, but the war itself was wrong.

Page 73: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil74

I was a Vietnam-era veteran. I may not support theperson who is burning the flag, but I will support their rightto burn it as long as I live. I know this is not a popularposition, but it is the right one. It takes courage to do theright thing, especially when the majority is against you. AllI can do is to try to show everyone who is really good andwho is really evil.

If you want to ban something truly offensive, then banthe government from flying the Nazi flag. Hitler’s flagshould be offensive to everyone. You can also ban anygovernment in the U.S. from flying the Confederate flag, which is equally offensive. The Confederate flag representsa group of secessionist who tried to preserve one of thegreat evils of all time, slavery. I don’t care that the Confed-erates fought bravely. The Rebels were wrong and theydeserved to lose the Civil War. They and their evil had nomore chance of winning than Hitler’s Germany did inWWII. The Germans also fought bravely during WWII. Sowhat? They were evil and wrong. Racist, White Suprema-cists and people who hate the government all love to flythe Nazi flag and the Confederate flag as their own. Theyknow what those flags represent—hatred and bigotry.

In 2000 the South Carolina legislature finally removedthe Confederate flag from the state capitol building’s dome. This action was taken after the National Association for theAdvancement of Colored People initiated a tourism boycottof South Carolina in 1999.

In 2001 the Georgia legislature reduced the large Con-federate flag emblem on the state flag to one of five smallflags from Georgia’s history. The legislature wanted toavoid the problems that entangled South Carolina.

Mississippi still has the Confederate flag emblem onits state flag. In 2001 voters rejected a new flag without theConfederate emblem and voted to keep the old flag. TheMississippi state flag can hurt the state’s image.

Page 74: Perfect Evil

The Pledge of Allegiance and the Flag 75

To African Americans the Confederate flag representsslavery, racism, whippings, shackles, oppression, rape, lynchings, segregation, terror, etc. Obviously, some peoplestill do not understand how African Americans feel aboutthe Confederate flag.

During the 2000 Republican primary campaign be-tween George W. Bush and John McCain, the candidateswere asked their position on the Confederate flag. Theyboth indicated the flag was a symbol of heritage and thestate of South Carolina should decide the fate of the flag.McCain promised honesty and straight talk in his campaign. He would not lie to get votes. However, after Bush locked-up the primary, McCain admitted in a speech that he reallybelieved the flag should come down and he was sorry hehad said otherwise.

John McCain had to take a similar position to that ofGeorge W. Bush: South Carolina should decide what hap-pens to the Confederate flag. Well, of course they were theones who decided to remove the flag. But both Bush andMcCain should have had the courage to take a position onwhether it is right or wrong to fly such an offensive flag ongovernment grounds. McCain finally told the truth, but Bushhad to be careful not to anger any Conservatives. This isanother reason why Conservatives are so dangerous—theycan make good people say bad things or be afraid to speakout against evil. Conservatives can make politicians take po-sitions they do not agree with, but must support to get elected.

When it comes to the Confederate flag, the South justcan’t get over the fact that they lost the war and their slaves.Confederates tried to tear this country apart, and they failed. Now, they lie when they say the war wasn’t about slavery.Slavery is exactly what it was about. The war is over. Theylost, and no matter how many times they fly the Confederateflag, they are not going to change the outcome. To me,flying the Confederate flag is worse than burning the U.S.flag. The flying of the Confederate flag desecrates and isan insult to the U.S. flag. A real U.S. patriot would onlyfly the U.S. flag.

Page 75: Perfect Evil

DIVERSITY

In 1997 the number of minorities entering medical schoolsdropped. The largest drops occurred in states where affir-mative action has been eliminated or cutback. Conserva-tives have changed the rules which has discouragedminorities from applying to colleges.

Conservatives will continue in their quest to eliminateall help to minorities who want to enter college, get a pro-motion, start a new business, etc.

This is simple, where Conservatives have cutback oreliminated Affirmative Action and sometimes replaced itwith some phony program, what have the results been? Aremore whites attending college? Are fewer minorities at-tending college? Are fewer minorities being promoted? Arethere fewer minority businesses being awarded contracts?

We don’t like to talk about affirmative action anymore; we like to talk about diversity. Whatever terminologyyou use, we have a problem. If Conservatives think theycan keep kicking minorities when they are down and getaway with it, I have some news for you. Eventually, whiteswill be a minority in the U.S. and some of the rules youcreate today may come back to haunt you.

In 1998 it was revealed that the Supreme Court hashired mostly white law clerks. Some justices were worsethan others, almost every clerk hired by them was white. The lack of diversity is important because they screen mostof the cases to be considered by the court and draft mostof the rulings. What you have is virtually one race, white, working on and ruling on affirmative action.

76

Page 76: Perfect Evil

Diversity 77

Another interesting fact is that no American Indian hasever worked as a clerk on the Supreme Court.

It would be funny, if it wasn’t so pathetic. The originalinhabitants of this country have never had a representativework as a clerk on the Court.

In 1999 U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and other femaleHouse members entered a Senate Foreign Relations Com-mittee hearing to ask committee chairman Sen. Jesse Helmsto allow hearings to be held on the U.N. Convention toEliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Womentreaty. Helms had the women tossed out of the hearing.

Jesse Helms also held-up Carol Mosley-Braun’s (ablack former Senator) nomination to be ambassador to NewZealand. When Mosley-Braun was a Senator, Helms wasin a Capitol elevator with her. He sang Dixie and said hewould continue ‘‘until she cries.’’

It still amazes me that some women and minoritiesvote for Conservative white males.

During the Clinton administration Republicans, whocontrolled the senate, tried to block many of Clinton’s nom-inations from becoming federal judges. They were particu-larly tough on Hispanic candidates. Rep. Robert Menendez,D-N.J. said ‘‘Hispanic-Americans take longer to getthrough the judicial nominating process than any othergroup.’’

Why do some Hispanic-Americans vote for Conserva-tives?

In 1957 nine black students tried to enter the all-whiteCentral High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. ArkansasNational Guardsmen turned them away. President Eisen-hower had to send in Army troops to escort the studentsinto the school.

This was one of many steps taken in America to end se-gregtion.

Conservatives were absolutely positive they were rightabout slavery. Then, when that failed, they were absolutely

Page 77: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil78

positive they were right about segregation. The Ku KluxKlan was a Conservative terrorist organization that attackedminorities. Conservatives fought against civil rights. Re-member when Gov. George Wallace of Alabama vowed,‘‘Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation for-ever!’’ As usual, he and other Conservatives were wrongon all counts. Gov. Wallace, to his credit, did reverse hisviews later, yet, people continue to believe in Conservativelies and evil ideas. Conservatives change what it is they areagainst as they are proven wrong from time to time, buthow anyone can believe what they say is beyond compre-hension.

In 2000 an Ohio pastor refused to allow an interracialwedding in his church. Chastity Bumgardner, who is whiteand Henry Lawrence, who is black were going to be marriedin the Pleasant Valley Community Church. Bumgrdner’sbrother had made the arragements with the pastor. However, the pastor cancelled the wedding when he found out thatLawrence was black.

I guess some religious people do not believe in Diver-sity when it comes to marriage.

This country should have a method to help the disad-vantaged get a good education. Conservatives make surethe white people in the suburbs have an opportunity for agood education, so everyone else should demand that theyhave the same opportunity. You and your children willnever get that opportunity by voting for Conservatives.

We have a long way to go to achieve equality inAmerica.

Page 78: Perfect Evil

CONSERVATIVE FALSEINFORMATION

In 1994 the Seniors Coalition, a Conservative fund-raising group sent out letters to Americans saying the Clin-ton Health Plan was going to take away their choice ofdoctors, force people off Medicare, etc. Of course, it scaredpeople, some of who sent money to the Coalition. The prob-lem was that the letter was not accurate. The Clinton planactually added benefits to Medicare. What the Coalition didwas not illegal, but it is not right to mislead people.

In 1994 Rush Limbaugh, a Conservative radio talkshow host, attacked the school attended by the Clinton’sdaughter Chelsea. Limbaugh said the school required stu-dents to write about ‘‘Why I Feel Guilty Being White.’’There was one small problem with his report. It was nottrue. It never happened. Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting(FAIR) is an organization that has kept track of the falsestories Limbaugh reports.

It always amazed me when someone would quote mesomething that Rush Limbaugh had said as if it were fact. They actually believed he was reporting truthful news. Rushwas entertaining them, saying what they wanted to hear, making lots of money and, at best, he was a clown. But hewas a dangerous clown. Rush Limbaugh is not a news re-porter. He, as do other Conservatives, repeats somethingsomeone tells him without regard to the truthfulness of thisstatement, especially if it hurts people he doesn’t like. Con-servatives do not investigate or check sources. They areparrots repeating things they have heard. The source, if any,

79

Page 79: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil80

is irrelevant. They just have to say something bad aboutpeople they do not like. Conservatives take rumors and gos-sip, and by repeating them over and over, turn them into atwisted version of the truth.

In 1994 the Rev. Jerry Falwell, the Conservative hostof his TV show Old Time Gospel Hour, sold a videotapeaccusing President Clinton of various crimes including be-ing involved in several deaths. There was no evidence tosupport any of the allegtions. The lack of evidence did notstop Falwell from promoting the video.

In 1993 White House Counsel Vincent Foster commit-ted suicide in a Virginia park. Rush Limbaugh repeated astory that Foster was murdered and his body was movedfrom an apartment to the park. The Rev. Pat Robertson alsoreported the rumor about Foster being murdered on his 700Club TV show.

In 1994 special prosecutor Robert Fiske concluded hisinvestigation of Foster’s death and reported it was a suicide.Other investigations were initiated however.

Conservatives speculated that President Clinton andhis wife Hillary had something to do with the death ofVincent Foster.

The Vincent Foster investigations continued for years, and the rumors of his murder continued, also.

U.S. Park Police said Foster’s death was a suicide. ASenate committee concluded the death was a suicide. Fi-nally, in 1997, Whitewater special prosecutor Kenneth Starrconcluded that Foster committed suicide.

Conservatives were wrong as usual. Foster was notmurdered.

Conservatives accuse individuals of almost anythingwithout any proof and people actually believe them. I guesspeople assume an accusation is the same as a conviction. But, when you do not tell the truth it becomes a lie.

G. Gordon Liddy, a Conservative radio talk show host, told his listeners to shoot the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco

Page 80: Perfect Evil

Conservative False Information 81

and Firearms agents in the head because they wear bullet-proof vests.

Conservtive talk show hosts attacked the government, the Clinton administration and President Clinton.

Conservative talk show hosts say they are not responsi-ble for anything crazy their listeners do. They never takeresponsibility for anything. They claim it’s not their faultthat some people actually believe their lies and distortions. These same talk show hosts attack TV, movies, music, etc.,as being a bad influence on children and adults, but whenthey say outrageous things, it has no influence on anyone! That makes them the most irresponsible and evil group inthe information business.

In April, 1995 Rush Limbaugh quoted some negativecomments about Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrichand others. Limbaugh was upset that liberals had said suchwicked things about Newt and others. Limbaugh got hisinformation from Conservative Brent Bozell’s newsletter. If Limbaugh had bothered to read the newsletter he wouldhave found the end of the newsletter contained a note statingit was an April Fool’s joke. Limbaugh admitted he wasfooled, but he qualified his admission by saying ‘‘Givensome of the things liberals actually do say, it’s not too toughto believe they would say the things Bozell makes up.’’

The logic here is unbelievable and twisted. They mighthave said this, therefore I do not have to check to see if ittrue, and I do not have to apologize! These sick and evilpeople can say anything they want about anybody. Howcan anyone believe anything they say? Yet, some peopledo believe everything they say and go around repeating itas gospel. People get hurt when these ‘‘show hosts’’ spreadtheir lies and rumors.

After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on NewYork City and Washington, Rush Limbaugh attacked ABCanchor Peter Jennings for making insulting comments aboutPresident Bush. He based Jennings comments on an e-mail.

Page 81: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil82

Rush did not check his source. As usual, Rush was wrong.Jennings never said what Rush ‘‘reported’’ on his talk show.

Conservatives were happy when President Clinton’saffair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky was ex-posed. The problem with Conservatives attacking peoplethey do not like on a moral basis is that they are not all asperfect as they expect everyone else to be. You know theold sayings: ‘‘If you live by the sword, you will die by thesword,.’’ and ‘‘People who live in glass houses should notthrow rocks.’’ When you tell people that they must be per-fect, you better be perfect yourself or you will fall on yourown sword. What Conservatives say about morals soundsgood, but humans are not perfect and never will be.

In 1998 Conservative Republican Rep. Dan Burtonadmitted that he had an extramarital relationship and fa-thered a child. Burton previously had called Clinton a‘‘scumbag.’’

In 1998 right-wing Republican Rep. Helen Chenowethconfessed to having an affair when she was younger. Cheno-weth had demanded that President Clinton should resignbecause of his reltionship with Monica Lewinsky.

Also in 1998 House Judiciary Committee ChairmanHenry J. Hyde, a Republican, acknowledged that he had anaffair with a married woman in the 1960’s. He pointed outthat it happened a long time ago and was not pertinent toperforming his duties.

I agree with Rep. Hyde. None of this should be rele-vant to doing a good job in Congress. Unfortunately, Con-servatives Sit in moral judgment of liberals, and sometimesthey hurt Conservatives who are not perfect in the process.

In 1998 House Speaker-elect Bob Livingston, a Repub-lican, who was going to replace Newt Gingrich confessedthat he had affairs while he was married. Subsequently,Livingston resigned.

Conservatives attack people they say are not morallyperfect. When they get caught themselves, they say it is a

Page 82: Perfect Evil

Conservative False Information 83

private matter that should stay private. They ask for forgive-ness. They say it was something in the past and we shouldmove on and leave this problem behind us. This is all true. Now, they should apply those same principles to the peoplethey are attacking. But, of course, they will not. They willjust keep on attacking like they always do.

All this reminds me of McCarthyism. In the 1950’s,Senator Joe McCarthy and his accomplices went after any-one who might be, or ever might have been, a communist. The dictionary defines ‘‘McCarthyism’’ as ‘‘the use of in-discriminate, often unfounded, accusations, sensationalism, inquisitorial investigative methods, etc., ostensibly in thesuppression of communism.’’ Many innocent people werehurt before McCarthy was finally stopped, but his methodsare still used by Conservatives today. They don’t needproof. They just accuse someone of something and pro-nounce them guilty. It is PERFECT EVIL at its worst.

In 2000 federal agents, following orders from AttorneyGeneral Janet Reno, took Elian Gonzalez from his Miamirelatives and returned him to his father who eventually tookElian back to Cuba. The Miami relatives would not obeyany court orders and refused to give up Elian, who survivedat sea, but his mother died trying to reach the U.S.

Republicans decided they would hold a Senate Judi-ciary Committee hearing to force Reno to defend her actionsand those of her agents.

Conservatives like to talk about law and order, butwhen the attorney general of a Democratic administrationenforces the law, suddenly Conservatives are against theuse of necessary force.

Conservatives did not like the idea of Elian going backto Cuba, a communist country. They could care less thathis father came to the U.S. to get his son. I wonder howthey would feel if they went to another country and Conser-vatives in that country tried to stop them from geting theirchild back?

Page 83: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil84

Congressional Republicans made various negativestatements about Janet Reno and the federal agents.

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee de-layed the hearing while he waited for documents from theJustice Department.

Here we have Conservatives standing against enforc-ing the rule of law and against family values. How cananyone trust anything they say? By the way, when the Re-publicans found out that public opinion polls showed wide-spread support for Janet Reno and both her enforcement ofthe law and her support for parental rights, they decided topostpone the hearings indefinitely. I guess, this time eventhe Conservatives didn’t believe their own rhetoric enoughto risk losing votes.

Conservatives give you so much false information, itis easy to understand how some people fall for their lies. When I was much younger, even I believed them. I get madat myself for falling for their rhetoric. That is one of themain reasons why I am writing this book.

Page 84: Perfect Evil

DRUGS

Conservatives believe that jail is the answer to the drugproblem. Put drug addicts in jail and the problem is solved.

However, medical treatment for drug addicts worksjust the same as it does for any disease. Drug treatment iseffective, has a chance of actually solving the problem andis cheaper than jail.

Conservatives concentrate on attacking the drug sup-ply. Stop the drug flow and you have solved the problem. It has never worked and it never will. You must reducedemand to have any affect on the drug problem. Educationand treatment is the only way really win the war on drugs.Reducing demand also reduces crime. Drug addicts willalways find a way to get drugs and someone will be thereto supply them. You must prevent people from becomingaddicts and treat the people who do become addicts withmedical treatment.

Another benefit of drug treatment is a reduction in thespreading of diseases such as AIDS, hepatitus, etc. Addictshave a high risk of catching and spreading diseases.

Why doesn’t the public understand that drug treatmentcan be very effective? Conservative propaganda tells thepublic that jail is the best way to deal with sick people.‘‘Lock them up and throw away the key,’’ they say. Manda-tory minimum sentences will solve the drug problem. First-time offenders must go to jail. All drugs are equally danger-ous and deserve stiff sentences. And so on. It all soundsgood, but it does not work. I don’t think that there has everbeen a sick person that got better in jail without medical

treatment, and the more treatment they received, the betterthey got.

States must allow judges to judge. Lifer laws and man-datory miniumum sentences, that Conservatives love, takeaway the ability of judges to determine sentences. There isa difference between a drug kingpin and a first-time of-fender. Too many people are in jail for too long. Thesemandatory sentences also eliminate the parole system whichis there to judge if inmates have changed for the better andshould be released. It is crazy to let murderers go free whileothers stay in jail for a lesser drug offense, due to mandatorysentences and jail overcrowding.

Tim Allen who starred in TV’s Home Improvementwas involved in cocaine deals when he was a college grad.He was sentenced to three years in jail.

Tim was lucky he had a judge who was allowed tojudge. Conservatives do more harm than good when theygo overboard with harsh punishments and eliminate the roleof judges. To me, it is un-American to have no judicialjudgment in the justice system. That makes us no better thana third-world country, and that should not be acceptable tothe American people.

In 1998 12-year-old Christine Rhodes shared her in-haler with another child who had an asthma attack on aschool bus. Both of their mothers thought Christine was ahero. However, the Mount Airy, Maryland, Middle Schoolprincipal had to record a drug infraction on Christine’s re-cords. The principal choose not to suspend Christine fromschool.

The principal was lucky to have any discretionarypower at all. Many schools have a zero tolerance policynow, which leaves no discretion at all, just like mandatoryminimum sentences. To me, zero tolerance equals zero intel-ligence. You don’t think Conservatives are dangerous? Herewe have Conservative rules that teach our children not to

Page 86: Perfect Evil

Drugs 87

help others because it will get them in trouble with authori-ties. The ‘‘answer’’ is to put reason, intelligence and discre-tion back into the rules.

Former first lady Betty Ford believes that money spenton drug treatment is very important. The Betty Ford Clinictreats people with substance abuse problems. In 1994 shewas not happy with congressional Republicans who op-posed spending money on subtance abuse treatment. Shehad hoped that by then Republicans were aware of the needfor and the benefits of treatment.

Betty Ford is asking a lot by expecting Conservativesto be educated or possess intelligence.

To many people who face severe illness or severe painthe ability to manage their pain and suffering requires themedical use of marijuana. Just the fact that they can eatwhen they suffer from cancer, AIDS, etc. can make thedifference between life and death. People who suffer fromhepatitis, multiple sclerosis, eye disease, chronic pain,Crohn’s disease, terminal illnesses, etc. all seek relief frompain. The medical use of marijuana gives these people achance at a normal life.

States where voters have approved the medical use ofmarijuana are Alaska, Arizona, California, Maine, Oregonand Washington. The federal government is challengingthese laws.

Conservatives predict that drug use will increase if weallow the use of marijuana for medical purposes. For once, they are correct, sort of. A lot of sick people will use it andfeel better, live better and die better. You need a heart tounderstand how important and effective marijuana is forthese people, but Conservatives have rules and dire predic-tions, not hearts.

In 2000 Hawaii became the first state where the legisla-ture approved the medical use of marijuana. People mustget a doctor’s approval and register with the Department ofPublic Safety.

Page 87: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil88

Why don’t other states follow Hawaii and help sickpeople? Because their legislatures are afraid of Conserva-tives attacking them as being soft on drugs. Also, the drugcompanies who sell expensive medicine to control pain havelobbyists who influence legislators. Do you think the factthat marijuana is very easy to grow, cultivate and use, andcould leave the drug companies with expensive drugs itcannot sell might have something to do with it? Drug com-panies claim that they need to make huge profits to havethe money to develop new drugs. Why are drugs cheaperin other countries, like Canada? Canada allows the use ofmedical marijuana. Interesting, isn’t it?

In 1994 Joycelyn Elders was fired as surgeon generalfor saying things that upset many Conservatives. One of thethings she said that was controversial, was that we couldstudy decriminalization of drugs which might reduce crimeand violence in America.

Switzerland has liberal drug policies. One of them isthe state distribution of heroin to drug addicts. Doctors ad-minister heroin to addicts. Drug therapy is also stressed. TheSwiss have seen a drop in crime and disease, an increase inaddicts holding jobs and living in steady housing, and asavings of taxpayers money.

In 1999 the House convened a hearing on ‘‘The Prosand Cons of Drug Legalization, Decriminalization andHarm Reduction.’’ Republicans were worried that the ap-proval of medical use of marijuana could lead to the legal-ization of drugs. Some were unhappy that the hearing waseven being held. Republican Rep. Mark Souder said, ‘‘Wedo not have hearings called ‘The Pros and Cons of Rape.’ ’’

Conservatives use false analogies to backup their posi-tions. ‘‘The Pros and Cons of Rape’’ is a false analogybecause there are no ‘‘pros’’ about rape. The Swiss haveproven there are pros in legalizing drugs. Conservatives donot like anyone to talk about or study the legalization ofdrugs because they are afraid of the results, but you will

Page 88: Perfect Evil

Drugs 89

never know the truth if you do not study what other coun-tries are doing to control drug abusers. Will legalizing someor all drugs work? I don’t know. You don’t know. No onein America knows, because Conservatives make sure nopolitician will make a serious effort to find out. If they do,they will be labeled as soft on crime. Crazy, isn’t it?

Prohibition did not work with alcohol, and it is notworking with drugs. Other possibilities should be explored. There will always be a demand for drugs, just like alcohol. You can’t stop it, so you must control it. The current meth-ods of control are very profitable for drug dealers. You mustreduce demand and/or control production and distribution, just as we do with alcohol.

In 1994 Congress gave law enforcement agencies anew law that gave forfeited assets from drug dealers to thevarious federal, state and local agencies. They used civilforfeiture laws to go after assets of drug kingpins. If theycould not put the kingpins in jail, due to the lack of evidenceto convict them of a crime, at least they could take awaytheir money and other assets. Sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it?

Billions of dollars and aseets have been seized by thevarious agencies. Thousands of people have had money, property and other assets seized. Unfortunately, very fewdrug kingpins have been affected. The money and assetshave been confiscated from average people. Once law en-forcement agencies found out they could get money andassets from average citizens, they found ways to get them. You have rights, but your property has no rights. You hadto prove your property had not been used in a crime. Youmay have been innocent of a crime, but your property wasguilty until you proved it was innocent. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?

A tip from an anonymous criminal gave police thepower to take your property. Informants receive a percent-age of the value of the confiscated assets. Since the propertyis assumed guilty, you have no right to a public defender.

Page 89: Perfect Evil

People have lost their houses because of anonymous infor-mants or sometimes because their child or grandchild wasinvolved with drugs in their homes. People who have carriedlarge sums of cash, legally, have had their money confis-cated at airports and other places. Police have claimed themoney could be used to buy drugs.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Leslie Ohta had seized millionsin property, including the home of an elderly couple whosegrandson was suspected of selling drugs. However, when Oh-ta’s son was arrested for selling drugs from her house, it wasnot seized. The law must not apply to those in power.

Tina Bennis had her old car taken from her by thepolice because her husband got caught using the car topickup a prostitute. In 1996 the Supreme Court upheld theseizure of the car, with no compensation paid to Tina. Thisreinforced the forfeiture statutes.

The TV show, Dateline, on January 3, 1997, showedLouisiana Police lying during a traffic stop. The policestopped the Dateline vehicle and said had violated trafficlaws. But the Dateline video clearly showed they were ly-ing. Dateline also interviewed other victims who talkedabout being pulled over under a similar pretext, and somehad their cars confiscated. They had to hire a lawyer to gettheir cars back. One victim got her car back, but had to sellit to pay her lawyer’s fees. Guess what an investigationfound when they checked to see what happened to the seizedmoney? It was not used to fight crime. It was used to buyfood and other items from Wal-Mart and other stores.

People have also had their boats, planes, land, etc. takenfrom them. They have never been convicted of a crime. Manytimes they have not even been charged. Once the police hadtheir money or assets, they had what they wanted.

People have had their property damaged duringsearches. Boats have been torn apart by drug agents. Thenthe agents leave the boat as is. There have been many horrorstories of police abuse.

Page 90: Perfect Evil

Drugs 91

George Gerhrdt of Fort Lauderdale died of cncer. Hisbeneficiary moved into his house. An anonymous prisoninformat said Gerhardt was involved in a drug transactionat his house. Federal Marshals seized the house from thebeneficiary.

In 2000 congress passed legislation which gave theaverage person some relief from civil forfeiture laws. In-stead of the government seizing your property by just show-ing ‘‘probable cause’’ they now must show a ‘‘clearpreponderance of evidence’’ that your property was usedin a crime. The key word is ‘‘evidence.’’ The police shouldhave some evidence to seize your property. President Clin-ton signed the bill into law on April 25, 2000.

The problem is this: that power never should have beengiven to the police by Conservatives to fight their ‘‘waron drugs.’’

The 2001 counterterrorism bill gives law enforcementagencies broad powers to seize assets again. The police aresupposed to seize assets of terrorists. But, if the police abusethe law as they did with the ‘‘war on drugs’’, the averageperson could windup losing his property.

Did you know that it was so easy for the police to takeeverything you own and worked for your entire life withoutany proof of wrongdoing? Conservatives, once again, havegotten you to give up a little more freedom. It sounded likea good idea: give up some freedom to get the drug lords orterrorists. But when you give the police that kind of powerand they get to keep the money, you just know some police aregoing to abuse the power. They are only human, not perfect.Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Conservatives got youto do what no army from any other country could force youto do—give away some of your rights. You don’t think theyare dangerous? Can you imagine losing your property basedsolely on what a criminal said that you did or knew about?

President Reagan thought it was a good idea. It doesmakes a difference who you vote for!

TOBACCO

In 1998, at a congressional House Commerce Committeehearing, tobacco executives finally admitted that nicotine isaddictive and is a health hazard.

Tobacco industry internal documents have been uncov-ered during various lawsuits. The tobacco companies knewdecades ago that not only was nicotine a very potent drugwith physiological and physical effects, but that they couldcontrol the potency of the drug. They used different methodsto increase the nicotine kick.

The companies knew nicotine was a poison that killedpeople. But they were only interested in how they couldimprove their drug delivery system—cigarettes in order toincrease profits. The faster they could deliver the drug tothe brain the more dependent the smoker (addict) becameon cigarettes.

Some companies have admitted to the dangers ofsmoking to shield themselves from future lawsuits. Thisway smokers can not claim that they did not know thatsmoking was dangerous to their health. The companies nowconcede that cigarette smoking can cause cancer, emphy-sema, heart problems, etc.

Many people believe that smoking cigars is safer thansmoking cigarettes. Scientific evidence shows cigars arealso very dangerous. Cigar smoking can cause mouth, throatand lung cancer, as well as other diseases.

While there has been a decrease in adult smokers(some have died), the country has seen an increase in teen-age smokers. The Truth Campaign became a highly effec-tive anti-smoking ad campaign using radio and television

92

Page 92: Perfect Evil

Tobacco 93

ads aimed at teenagers. In 2000 Florida Republicans slashedthe campaign’s budget which caused a reduction in employ-ees and ads. Most people now know of the deadly conse-quences of smoking and many non-smokers can notunderstand why anyone would chose to smoke.

Why is it so hard for everyone to understand why peo-ple smoke, knowing how dangerous it is? Tobacco has nico-tine in it, an addictive drug. When you become an addictas a teenager, it is very hard to quit!

One thing I never thought about until I saw it on TVnews was how you could get kids hooked on tobacco byletting them steal cigarettes. Since kids cannot buy ciga-rettes legally, one way to get the cigarettes in their handsis by making it easy for them to steal them. Tobacco compa-nies paid a premium if stores would put cigarette displaysout front on the counter where it was easy to steal them.Of course, the tobacco companies deny that is the reasonthey pay extra to have the displays out front but, it doeswork out very well for them because they get new addictshooked on their drug, sometimes for life, however short itmight be. And they need new addicts, because a lot of thecurrent ones are dying. It is the same method illegal drugdealers use to hook their addicts—give them free drugs, then charge a lot later when they’re hooked. What little thecompanies lose in stolen cigarettes is easily made up laterin legal sales.

You would think that the government would make itillegal to put cigarettes out front. They should be behindthe counter where no child can get them. But the tobaccocompanies have used lobbyists and campaign contributionsto influence politicians.

States sued the Tobacco companies and in 1998 wonbillions of dollars and other concessions from the compa-nies. One of the concessions was that Tobacco companieswere to stop targeting cigarette ads at teenagers. The To-bacco companies did cut their billboard ads, but then they

Page 93: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil94

turned around and increased their advertising in magazines, especially youth-oriented magazines.

The Tobacco companies need new addicts because theold one are dying.

Conservative politicans, especilly from the South, havealways protected the tobacco industry and still do so today. That is why the Republicans in Washington will not stopthe Tobacco companies from targeting kids.

In 2000 the Supreme Court ruled that the governmentdid not have the authority to regulate tobacco, as it doeswith other durgs. This means that rules issued by the Foodand Drug Administration are now unenforceable. The courtsaid the Congress never authorized the FDA to regulate to-bacco.

President Clinton asked the Congress to pass legisla-tion giving the FDA the power to regulate tobacco and stopthe Tobacco companies from targeting and selling cigarettesto children. One example is restricting minors access tocigarette vending-machines. The Republicans in control ofCongress are not likely to offend the Tobacco companiesby passing new laws and risk losing campaign contribu-tions, unless the Tobacco companies ask Congress to passthe laws.

Conservatives will tell you that people who smokeknow that tobacco is dangerous, so it is their fault if smokingharms their health. What Conservatives leave out is thatnicotine is an addictive drug, like cocaine and heroin. Re-publicans do not want to give the FDA the power to regulatenicotine, yet Conservatives are always tough on other drugs,(like cocaine and heroin). When it comes to tobacco, theychange their tune. Why? Conservatives use the excuse thattobacco is a legal drug. Okay, who makes it legal? Conser-vatives make it legal. Conservatives are only against certaindrugs—the ones they don’t get campaign contributions fordefending. Conservatives like tobacco money and dance

Page 94: Perfect Evil

Tobacco 95

around the truth about tobacco—it is an addictive drug dis-penser designed to make kids nicotine addicts.

If the Tobacco companies decide that it would be betterfor them if the FDA regulated tobacco, then they will asktheir friends in Washington to pass a law. This way thecompanies would have some input on how the law is writtenand would not have to worry about different and uncon-trolled laws issued by various state legislatures.

POLICE AND JAILS

The majority of police try to do a good job, and it isa dangerous job. They are not perfect. Their performancedepends a lot on the training they receive and the laws theyare given to enforce.

We have all read about car chases in newspapers orseen car chases on TV. For years, police chased adults, butmost often kids, for traffic offenses. I am not talking hereabout the police chasing someone who has just committeda robbery. I am talking about traffic violations. Sometimes, the chase ended in a car crash, at times involving othervehicles and the deaths of innocent people. In effect, peoplereceived the death penalty for a traffic violation. Relativesfiled law suits against the police. The police, to their credit, changed the rules of pursuit. They would stop the chaseafter a short period of time if the person continued to speed. Then the Supreme Court, in effect, changed the rules again.

In 1998 the Supreme Court ruled that police officerscan not be sued by people who are hurt or by relatives ofthose killed during police car chases unless the police ac-tions ‘‘shock the conscience.’’

State legislatures are allowed to pass laws that givevictims the right to sue the police.

Since most legislatures these days are Conservative, good luck on getting any help from them! Most peopleprobably do not care about this issue until it is their kidlying there dead. By then, of course, it is too late.

Why do women vote for Conservatives? You wouldthink they would want to protect their children from Conser-vative lawmakers.

96

Page 96: Perfect Evil

Police and Jails 97

During one police chase I watched on TV, the policeboxed in the car, in a parking lot, but the driver continuedto try and get away. The driver was not a bank robber or akiller, and he did not have a gun. The police surroundedthe vehicle, then shot the driver him many times, killinghim. The police said the vehicle was a weapon. I thought,‘‘Was that their only choice—shooting him many times?’’

In 2000 St. Louis police cornered Earl Murray andRonald Beasley, who were in a car driven by Murray, usingtwo police cars. Murray had just been involved in a drugdeal. Beasley was in the car because he had asked Murrayfor a ride. Murray tried to drive through the police cars. The police fired their guns many times, killing both men.Neither man was armed.

Why did they shoot the unarmed passenger? In 2000 Philadelphia police chased Thomas Jones who

was involved in a carjacking. Jones crashed the car and thenstole a police car. When police finally caught Jones, theybeat and kicked Jones unmercifully. Unfortunately for thepolice, a TV news helicopter recorded the beating whichwas shown on TV.

In 2000 Nebraska police chased George Bibins whowas driving a stolen Jeep. Bibins, who was unarmed, crashed the Jeep. A police officer came over to the Jeep andshot Bibins to death.

Police have a lot of adrenaline flowing when they areinvolved in a car chase. If they have not received any train-ing, or inadequate training, on how to control their emotionsand their tempers, they are going to make bad decisionsand people can be hurt or killed. This training needs to beon a continuing basis. How to calm down quickly is criticaland needs to be steadily reinforced. It is the responsibilityof their supervisors to provide this training, and it is theresponsibility of politicians to provide the money to pay forthe training. Conservatives, however do not like spending

Page 97: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil98

money on things like training. They prefer to spend moneyon guns.

As to the justification of shooting unarmed people ina vehicle, because the vehicle can be weapon, we need tohave certain rules established:

1. Under no circumstances should a police officer everstand in front of a vehicle. It may look like a greatthing to do in the movies, but it is a dumb idea inreal life. It can get the police officer, the driver orthe passenger killed.

2. Under no circumstances should a police officer everstand behind a vehicle when it is backing up.

3. Police officers should stand to the side of a vehicleat all times.

4. Every police car should carry rods with spikes inthem that can be thrown in front or behind a vehicleto blow out the tires. A vehicle will not go very fastor very far without tires.

5. If a police officer has an urge to shoot something, they should shoot out the tires. If they can shootthe driver and the passenger with such accuracy thatthey can kill them, they certainly can shoot out thetires instead.

6. Seek any alternative to killing the driver and thepassenger. Try boxing the car in with several po-lice cars.

Again, the main problem is a lack of proper training. We all know how hard it is to do a job right without theproper support from supervisors. Imagine how hard yourjob would be if you were carrying a gun and had to makelife or death decisions under stress.

A rule that used to be important to police was thatbefore you burst into someone’s home, you would investi-gate to see if they were committing a crime. The rules have

Page 98: Perfect Evil

Police and Jails 99

changed. The new rule is that an informant tells you some-one is a criminal, so you break down their door and pointguns at them. This gets people killed, sometimes by shoot-ing at the police or trying to run away, not knowing theyare police. After all, why would you believe it was thepolice breaking in? You are not a criminal. Sometimes, thevictim dies of a heart attack. I could list many examples, but one will illustrate the problem clearly enough.

In 1994 Boston police, on a tip from an unidentifiedinformant, burst into the apartment of retired Minister Ac-celyne Williams looking for drugs and guns. Police han-cuffed Williams. Williams died of heart failure minutesafter the raid. Nothing was found in Williams’ apartment. The informant and the police were wrong.

Here we have Conservatives getting tough on crimeand getting you to give up a little of your rights again. Howcan police not investigate to see if the information from theinformant is true or not? It does not take a lot of effort todetermine if someone is selling drugs. Just observe them. This was not an isolated case. It has happened many times, but it should never happen. Police should always completea simple, basic investigation before they break down any-one’s door. This is a failure of leadership, rules of properprocedure, and laws.

Did you know that in 2001 the Supreme Court ruledthat the police can arrest you for a minor traffic offense.Police can pull you over for speeding, not wearing your seatbelt, making an improper turn, changing lanes improperly,or anything, handcuff you and take you to jail. You haveno recourse. Don’t worry, you are just losing a small rightof freedom from police abuse.

The police who stormed the Attica prison in 1971could have used some training on when and who to shoot.

Dr. John Edland, who was the Monroe County, NewYork medical examiner, conducted autopsies on the inmatesand hostages killed when police retook the prison from the

Page 99: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil100

inmates. Everyone, including all the hostages, were shotand killed by the police. None of the hostages had died ofstab wounds or were mutilated as first reported. Two othermedical examiners agreed with Dr. Edland.

During the assault on Attica, it was as if the police hadno training or rules. They just shot everybody, includingevery hostage that died. The police had a lot of adrenalineflowing, and then went crazy. No one in charge could con-trol them. Then, officials created lies to cover up the truth.

The 2001 movie The Killing Yard, starring Alan Aldaas a lawyer, will show you what the government did duringand after the police assault on Attica prison.

Conservatives thought that Boot Camps for childrenwould help solve the crime problem. In 1999 a 14-year-oldgirl in a South Dakota boot camp collapsed during a run.The staff left her lying there. Gina Score died of heat stroke.

In 2001 Anthony Haynes, a 14-year-old boy in a Ari-zona boot camp died. There were allegations of abuse. There have been other deaths, at various boot camps, inmany states.

So, Conservatives get tough on crime and children, ineffect, receive the death penalty for minor offenses.

In 1999 Maryland suspended their boot camp program.Guards were reported to have abused and assaulted juve-niles at the camps.

States have laws against child abuse and child endan-germent. Those regulations should have been enforced atevery boot camp.

Conservatives let authorities have too much power andcontrol over these children. Conservatives, as usual, tooktheir freedom and rights away. It is hard to believe that inthe United States, Conservatives can get people to believein these ideas and allow them to be implemented. It is evilto allow children to be abused, and Americans should beashamed of themselves for allowing it to happen.

Page 100: Perfect Evil

Police and Jails 101

Some states brought back chain gangs as a method ofpunishment, but that did not last either. The states discon-tinued them for financial and other reasons. They just didnot work as predicted by Conservatives.

Due to harsher sentencing, the U.S. prison populationis growing. It can be argued that this is both a good thingand a bad thing at the same time. Some say it is good toput criminals away for a long time. Others say that it is afailure of our society that so many people are in jail. Oneproblem that we have is that the prison population is get-ting older.

U.S. prisons have thousands of older inmates who arefrail, sick and can not defend themselves against youngerinmates. This group will continue to grow because of thelonger sentences.

Conservatives will tell you that every prisoner muststay in jail for as long as possible, but it is crazy to keepan old, frail person in jail due to mandatory sentencing andhave to release a younger, more dangerous criminal due toa lack of space. Research should be done to see when theolder inmates are no longer a threat, what is the appropriatesort of facility to keep them housed in, and what alternativesare available or can be created.

In 1999 California admitted that children under the ageof 18 were in prisons with adult inmates.

How many other states are doing the same thing? Ifany children in adult prisons are abused or raped, what youhave are Conservatives effectively promoting the abuse andrape of children. You must not allow Conservatives to hurtchildren just to prove they are tough on crime.

Are prisons and local jails full in your state? Is thereno place to put new prisoners? Are criminals released be-cause there is not enough cells? Conservatives want to putmore people in jail for longer terms, but they will not spendthe money necessary to build new prisons. This causes dan-gerous criminals to be relesed early, as newer and possiblyless dangerous criminals enter the system.

Page 101: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil102

Conservatives do not like to spend money on educatingprisoners, but there are two choices. You can have an uned-ucated criminal get out of jail and return to crime, wherehe rapes your daughter, kills your relative, breaks into yourhouse, robs a bank, steals your car, etc., or you can havean educated prisoner get out of jail and go to work. Conser-vatives prefer the uneducated prisoner. I prefer the educatedprisoner. Conservatives have ideas that sound good at first, but when you analyze the results, their ideas are crazy.

Conservatives like to point out that prisoners shouldnot get a college education when your child cannot get acollege education. That sounds good, doesn’t it? What theyfail to say is that everyone who is qualified to go to collegein the United States should be able to go. Money shouldnot be the determining factor for deciding if a person goesto college or not. If an American, free or prisoner, is quali-fied to go to college, they should be able to go, with noexceptions. The U.S. should be the leader in all the worldwhen it comes to education.

Page 102: Perfect Evil

CONCENTRATION CAMPS

Some Conservatives say that the Holocaust never happened. They say that Nazi Germany’s extermination of Jews, Gyp-sies and homosexuals never happened. They say either thatthe concentration camps never existed, or if they did exist, they did not kill millions of people. If you or anyone youknow has any doubts about whether the Holocaust hap-pened, just go to the United States Holocaust MemorialMuseum in Washington, D.C. It is a moving experience.

Of course, you might think, our government and ourpeople would never allow concentration camps to exist inthe U.S., but we did!

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the war hysteriaof the early 1940s led to the forced internment of approxi-mately 110,000 West Coast Japanese, about 70,000 ofwhom were U.S. Citizens, in concentration camps withinthe United States. They were placed in 10 ‘‘relocation cen-ters,’’ where some were confined for up to 4 years.

We defeated the Nazis and executed some of thembecause of what they did in the concentration camps, butConservatives got us to create our own concentrationcamps. They convinced us to take away the civil libertiesand constitutional rights of U.S. Citizens. They did it once, and they could do it again if you put them in charge of thecountry. And when they do it, they will tell you it is for thegood of the country. Just trust them—they are not dangerousto the freedoms in this country. But they are the only oneswho can talk us into giving those freedoms up.

103

Page 103: Perfect Evil

The German army, the Nazis, the SS and the Gestapocould not force the U.S. to create concentration camps, butConservatives did.

15

ASSISTED SUICIDE

Conservatives do not like the idea of doctor-assisted suicide. In 1997 the Supreme Court upheld state statutes that forbidphysican-assisted suicide. However, the court left room forstate legislatures or voter referendums to pass laws allowingdoctors to ease pain and even administer lethal doses ofdrugs.

Chronic pain patients often consider suicide becausethey are in such severe pain. You would think that doctorswould give them enough painkillers to make life bearable, but Conservatives with their war on drugs have made physi-cians apprehensive when prescribing drugs. The Drug En-forcement Agency will investigate doctors and pharmacistsif they believe too much medicine has been given by themto patients. The DEA suggests that the patient must be anaddict and the doctor is their drug dealer. Doctors and phar-macists are afraid they will lose their licenses, so Conserva-tives create the situation where people choose suicidebecause they can’t get enough pain medicine, and then makeit illegal for physicians to help them die. Conservativesmake doctors powerless to help their patients.

In 1997 the Supreme Court refused to hear an appealof Oregon’s doctor-assisted suicide law. The court wantedstates to decide if they will allow doctor-assisted suicide ornot. The Oregon law was a result of a voter referendum.

In 1998 a woman dying of carcer became the first per-son to die, after a doctor prescribed a lethal dose of drugs, under Oregon’s Death With Dignity Act.

105

Page 105: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil106

Around 14 other people took advantage of Oregon’sdoctor-assisted suicide law in 1998. The terminally ill pa-tients died peacefully.

Not everyone who is terminally ill wants to commitsuicide. Many want to live as long as possible. But, it isreasuring to know that you have the choice if you decide toend your suffering.

In 2001 the Netherlands became the first country tolegalize doctor-assisted euthanasia.

Overpopulation and an aging population will put pres-sure on more countries to allow terminally ill people theability to choose when and how they will die.

Conservatives always talk about freedom, but whatthey really want is for you to do what they think is right. What you think is irrelevant to them. They do not wantyou to have freedom of choice, because you might chosesomething they don’t like. If I am terminally ill, they shouldhave no right to tell me what I can and cannot do with mylife. That is a decision between me, my doctor and myfamily. Conservatives should keep their noses on their facesand out of other people’s lives.

Women understand pain better than men, because theygive birth. Women should elect more women to office. Then, maybe we would have better laws.

If assisted suicide works in Oregon, it can work in therest of the U.S.

CHILD ABUSE ANDWITCH HUNTS

It happens all too often. A single mom leaves her childhome and goes to work to pay the rent and feed her family. She has been unable to find any affordable private childcare, and the waiting list for low-cost day care is very long. Theauthorities find her child home alone. They arrested themother and charge her with child abuse. Conservatives de-mand that she be punished. If only she had had access toaffordable childcare this never would have happened. Now,guess who likes to cut taxes and doesn’t want to spendmoney on social programs—Conservatives. Conservativescreate the problem, then they want to punish the peoplewho are not perfect, who either do not have a husband orhave a jerk for a husband. Women need to elect women tooffice who understand this problem and will do somethingto solve it. Conservatives do not solve problems, they cre-ate them.

You know this story: a man beats his child and thechild dies. His wife stands by and does not stop him or callthe police. When the man is charged with child abuse andmurder, Conservatives are mad at the woman for not doinganything to stop the man, so they also charge her with childabuse. Often, there are other children in the family. Theyare given to social workers while the parents are in jail. Ifthe mother does get out of jail, she is not allowed to seeher surviving children or must endure supervised visitation.Conservatives want her to be punished.

107

Page 107: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil108

The reality of this situation is the probability that ifthe man has beaten his child, he has beaten his wife, also.He also probably either beat his other children or threatenedto beat them if the wife did not do whatever he said, includ-ing keeping quiet about the beatings. It is not easy for awoman to leave her husband or turn him in to authorities. He is probably the one who is supporting the family, andshe is afraid of losing the family income. Also, when youhave been beaten or threatened over a period of time, youchange. You lose the ability to make decisions on yourown. You dare not contradict the abuser from fear of theconsequences.

Conservatives say that the man is the head of thehousehold, and the female must obey him. Then, when shedoes obey him, Conservatives say she was wrong for obey-ing him. Crazy, isn’t it? Women should elect women tooffice who would understand this problem and adjust thelaws accordingly.

In 1998 Florida passed a law to toughen the child-welfare system. A child, Kayla McKean, had been beatento death by her stepfather despite calls by several people tothe child-abuse agency.

The law was named after Kayla. Kayla’s grandfatherasked to have her name removed from the law.

The Department of Children and Families went to theopposite extreme. The agency started to take children fromtheir parents based on an accusation, before they completedan investigation.

Because the agency was taking so many children andthe state did not adequately fund the agency, children hadto be crowded into foster homes, motel room, offices, oranyplace they could find floor space.

Conservatives like to pass laws showing they are toughon crime. but they will not give agencies enough money orworkers to do the job right. Some of these charges are false, but since the agency does not have enough resources to

Page 108: Perfect Evil

Child Abuse and Witch Hunts 109

investigate properly, families are kept apart for long periodsof time even though no actual abuse has occurred. Thisdoes not help children; it hurts children. We must provideadequate funding for agencies who are supposed to helpchildren.

People can be induced to remember events that neverhappened. While some adults can be convinced the falseimplanted memories really happened, children are easilyled into believing something false is reality.

Researchers have performed many experiments thatshow how simple it is to get adults and children to believein false memories. In fact, even when the subjects are toldlater that the new memory is false, they will not believethat it is not absolutely true. Your memory can play trickson you.

The HBO Pictures movie, Indictment—The McMartinTrial, was the best movie made on one of the many childabuse witch hunt cases of the 1980’s. It is a must see movie.Every high school student should see this movie to under-stand how the justice system can be corrupted.

In 1983 Virginia McMartin, her dughter, PeggyMcMartin Buckey, her grandson Ray Buckey and other em-ployees of the McMartin Preschool were charged with childmolestation. They were all arrested. The trial lasted until1990 with no convictions. Some were set free earlier thanothers as the charges were proved false. Ray Buckey hadto endure two trials before he was set free in 1990.

The prosecution withheld evidence from the defense.Interviewers planted false memories in the children’s minds.Prosecutors and police created a climate of fear.

As I watched the movie, I could not believe that thiscould happen in our country. But when hysteria sets in anda witch hunt mentality takes over, anything can happen. The children were brainwashed into believing things thatnever happened. The allegations were impossible: porno-graphic videotapes that could not be found, animals killed,

Page 109: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil110

but no remains were found; rape in a car wash; tunnels thatdid not exist; airplane rides that never happened; rape in amarket; rape in a church; bodies dug up from cemeteries, etc. The school was on a busy street. It was wide open, withwindows anyone could see into. Anyone could walk in atany time. The only rape that occurred was by the systemagainst the children and their parents.

One of the biggest lies was that the children could nothave made these things up. Of course, in a way, it wastrue—the ideas were implanted in their brains by the inter-viewers, which corrupted their testimony. Good Conserva-tives protected our children by creating a witch hunt. Then, good Conservatives all across this country started to findchild abusers everywhere. The witch hunt spread across thecountry like a plague.

In 1995 scores of people were accused of child abusein Wenatchee, Washington. Many people were tried andsome were convicted.

The primary accusor was a foster child of a policedetective. She was a troubled child who accused so manypeople that some people in the community started to ques-tion the accusations.

When a minister questioned the witch hunt tactics be-ing perpetrated on innocent people, both he and his wifewere soon charged with molesting children in their church. They were tried and found not guilty.

The accusations of a child was all that was requiredto have children taken from their homes and have parents ar-rested.

Conservatives just can’t believe that a child wouldmake up stories about abuse. But children like to pleaseadults. The moment a child knows that if they say somethingbad about someone, an adult they look up to will be pleasedand the child will become an important person, the childwill say and continue to say things that will make that adult

Page 110: Perfect Evil

Child Abuse and Witch Hunts 111

happy, no matter how crazy the accusations. There are vari-ous techniques that an adult can use to get a child to sayanything they want them to say. It can be as simple as anadult asking a question and showing disapproval when thechild answers that nothing happened. Then, when the adultasks the question again and the child says that, yes, therewas abuse, the adult shows approval. The child learnsquickly how to please the adult—just accuse scores of peo-ple of abuse! The child tries to be perfect, and, indeed, becomes perfect—PERFECT EVIL.

In the 1980’s seven people were charged with molest-ing children at the Little Rascals Day Care Center in NorthCarolina. Two were sentenced to life in prison. In 1995 anappeals court reversed the convictions.

Other cases where there has been no real evidence, only the hysteria of witch hunts have also collapsed, suchas the Margaret Kelly Michaels case in New Jersey.

Many innocent people have been hurt by these witchhunts. We must be on guard against false claims of abuse.I know it may not be easy to tell the difference betweenreal accusations and false ones, but you must look beyondthe child’s accusation. Who performed the investigation? Were the interviews recorded on video? Were the accusa-tions so wild that they cannot stand up to close scrutiny? Is there any other evidence besides the child’s testimony? Was there a real investigation, or did everyone just be-come hysterical?

PORNOGRAPHY AND VIOLENCE

When most people think of the word ‘‘pornography,’’ theythink about sex or nudity. Conservatives will tell you thatsex and nudity are terrible things that must be avoided atall costs unless you are married, and maybe not even then.A lot of married people in the U.S. don’t have sex veryoften, and some don’t have it at all. Americans have bighang-ups about sex and nudity because they are taught aschildren that sex and nudity are shameful things. Europeansdon’t have these hang-ups. They think we are crazy. Weare! When I think about ‘‘pornography,’’ I think of thingsthat are truly obscene.

Which of the following is pornographic?

1. A movie with sex in it, or a movie that shows ateenager being murdered violently?

2. A picture of a naked child, or a picture of a childgoing to school in a bulletproof jacket and carryinga bulletproof book bag?

3. A streaker running naked on an athletic field, orathletes fighting at athletic events?

4. A streaker running naked, or parents fighting attheir children’s athletic events, sometimes killingeach other?

5. A movie with naked people in it, or a TV trash-talk show, where sometimes a guest will kill anotherguest after the show has been aired?

6. A picture of people having sex, or a picture of thedead college students shot by the National Guardat Kent State in 1970?

112

Page 112: Perfect Evil

Pornography and Violence 113

7. A picture on the internet of a naked person, or in-structions on the internet on how to build a bomb?

I could continue, but you get the idea. I don’t have abig problem with nudity or sex, but I do have a problemwith real pornography. The Nazi’s concentration campsand gas chambers were the most pornographic episode inhistory.

Conservatives pass laws or try to pass laws banningnude, semi-nude, or topless sunbathing at beaches or any-where else. They try to ban nude or topless dancing. Conser-vatives have even tried to ban women from nursing theirbabies in public.

Europeans can not understand why Americans havesuch a problem with nudity. They do not think nudity is abig deal. Europeans think it is fashionable to go toplessat beaches.

Remember when nudity was banned in movies?Conservatives like to attack nudity. It is an easy target

and people believe they are going after something that issupposed to be bad. But nudity isn’t a real problem, exceptin the minds of Conservatives. Men can go topless. I haveseen some heavy men who have bigger breasts than somewomen, but since men make the laws, I don’t think theywill ban themselves from going topless.

In 1996 Conservative Republicans proposed a ban onthe sale of Playboy, Penthouse, explicit videos, etc. on mili-tary bases.

I guess soldiers do not have First Amendment rights. This would be laughable if Conservatives weren’t tak-

ing up the government’s time and resources. Adults canmake up their own minds on what they want to see or notsee. They don’t need Conservatives to tell them. We askthese soldiers to fight and die for this country, but somepeople want to take away their freedom of choice to see

Page 113: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil114

what they want to see. What are they fighting for if notfreedom of choice?

Conservatives are always trying to ban some work ofart or another because they say it is pornographic. Theirproblem is that they do not understand art. Then again,Conservatives are not the brightest people in the world. Artis way over their heads. Unless the art is like a picture froma camera, they cannot fathom what it is about. Usually, thisattempt at censorship backfires on them. When they try toban it, the art gets a lot of attention and more people cometo see it than would otherwise. So, they actually help theartist and the art in a strange sort of way.

Americans do not understand what real pornographyis. We are told it is sex and nudity. We are told as childrenthat sex and nudity are bad things and many of us grow upbelieving it. Then, when we get married, we are told sex isokay, but nudity is still bad. It’s no wonder that Americanshave so many hang-ups about sex and nudity. We are moretolerant of violence than we are of sex and nudity. Wehave everything mixed up in our heads, and we can’t get itstraightened out.

If Americans could acccept sex and nudity as some-thing normal and natural, as other people from other coun-tries do, maybe we wouldn’t be so violent. We need to rejectviolence and learn to accept safe sex and love as the mostnatural things on earth. Conservatives are no help in thisarea. They create the problem, and their only solutions arecensorship and putting people in jail for a problem thatshouldn’t even exist.

Page 114: Perfect Evil

18

PROSTITUTION

Conservatives think that by making prostitution illegal theyhave solved the problem, but all they have done is madethe problem worse and hurt a lot of people. Prostitution hasalways existed, and will always exist. It cannot be controlledjust by making it illegal. Prohibition does not work.

The police have to take resources away from solvingand preventing other types of crimes to go after prostitutesand their customers. If it was legal throughout the country,as it is in Nevada, the police would not waste officers andtime on prostitution. This misuse of resources costs taxpay-ers money.

If prostitution were legal, regulated, taxed and con-trolled:

1. there would be a reduction in AIDS cases andother diseases, because the use of condoms wouldbe mandatory.

2. we would eliminate the beating and murder ofprostitutes.

3. there could be mandatory drug rehabilitation pro-grams for the prostitutes.

4. customers would not be arrested.5. neighborhoods would be safer, because the crime

that surrounds prostitution would be eliminated.6. pimps would be eliminated.7. prostitutes could keep enough of their earnings to

get away from prostitution eventually.8. prostitutes could contribute to and be entitled to

social security.

115

Page 115: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil116

9. communities would receive additional tax dollars, which would reduce taxes for everyone.

10. there would be more space available for violentcriminals in our jails.

11. child prostitution would be reduced.

There are many benefits to legalization, and virtuallyno negatives. If it works in Nevada and in other countrieslike the Netherlands and Germany, it can work anywherein the U.S.

Conservatives hate this kind of intelligent proposal. They don’t even like the idea of studying it. They say prosti-tution is evil and must be illegal. They need bad people sothey can be the good people. They can’t stand the idea thata person may not be as bad as they say they are. Conserva-tives are the real evil in our society.

Page 116: Perfect Evil

19

JUVENILE CRIME

Conservatives try to solve the juvenile crime problem bycharging kids as adults in our courts. They try to solve theproblem after the crime has been committed, but this doesnot solve the problem. It does not even address the problem.Putting kids in jail where they can learn new crime skillsfrom hardened criminals just creates new and better crimi-nals. Having children in jails is not an accomplishment; itis a failure of our society.

Solving the crime problem requires solutions otherthan putting kids in jail. Midnight basketball leagues havebeen successful all over the country. They keep kids off ofthe streets and out of trouble.

Conservatives do not like to fund programs that pre-vent crime.

In the mid 1990’s Boston had a dramatic drop in juve-nile homicide. Officials put their efforts into preventingcrime instead of waiting until the crime has been committedand then reacting after it is too late.

Everyone in the community combined their efforts tointervene with programs to prevent crime.

Officials enrolled more kids in day camps. When ajuvenile was arrested or put on probation, officials fol-lowed-up with a visit to their homes. More police officerswere added to targeted areas. Job training was sponsoredby various groups. Everyone got together to create anti-crime strategies.

In addition, Boston and Federal authorities work to-gether to find out the origin of firearms used to commit

117

Page 117: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil118

crimes. This way officials can attack the gun dealers whoare selling guns to juveniles and criminals.

Another stretegy used by cities to reduce juvenilecrime is to use different methods to stop school truancy.Besides having truant officers and police search for truantstudents, officials contact parents, tutor students, counselstudents and do whatever is necessary to get the kids backin school.

Studies have found that most juvenile crime occur afterthe school day ends. This is when parents are still at workand the children are on their own. More women are workingthan ever before. They are divorced, single mothers, or mar-ried but have to work to pay the bills.

Conservatives try to use nighttime curfews to controljuvenile crime. But, since most juvenile crime happens afterschool lets out, curfews have little effect on crime.

It is essencial that we spend the money to increaseafter-school programs. Sports, clubs, day care, communityservice and other activities are needed to keep children awayfrom criminal activity and reduce teen-age pregnancies. What do you think kids are doing when you are workingand they are not in school?

As you can see, there are many solutions to the juvenilecrime problem that are better then putting kids in jail. Con-servatives have created a climate where prosecutors arecharging more and more children as adults. It seems asthough there are few children being tried in juvenile courts.Prosecutors and judges are afraid that Conservatives willaccuse them of being soft on crime if they try a child as ajuvenile. Conservatives like to say, ‘‘adult crime, adulttime.’’ They want more jails and longer sentences. Conser-vatives also want to cut taxes and keep juvenile programschronically underfunded and understaffed. But no matterhow tough you are on kids who commit crimes, treatingkids as adults in court does not make them adults. You haveto be tough with programs that really work before the crime

Page 118: Perfect Evil

Juvenile Crime 119

is committed, not wait to punish the offenders after the act. That is the solution to the problem. The one thing Conserva-tives do not want you to know is that prevention is cheaperthan jail. You can put a little money into social programsand solutions that work, or you can put a lot of money intocourts and prison systems with reoccurring costs as kids goin and out of jail and become better criminals.

Page 119: Perfect Evil

20

SCHOOLS AND CHILDREN

Republicans like to cut state income taxes. Sounds likea good idea, doesn’t it? But, does the state then cut itscontribution to the schools? Did local government have toraise property taxes or sales taxes to pay for schools andteachers? Do you wonder why your state taxes were cut butyou do not seem to have more money?

Of course, there is an alternative. You can just cut themoney given to schools and have deteriorating schools, large class sizes, etc.

Has your school district cut back on sports, art, music, school libraries and other programs due to a lack of taxdollars?

There have been schools where there were not enoughtextbooks for students. Some teachers have paid for schoolsupplies with their own money.

How can students study or teachers teach withoutproper books and supplies?

We have schools across the country that are fallingapart. Some are not even safe, let alone fit for teaching. Insome school districts children do not have a school building. They attend school in trailers.

Sometimes courts have to force states to spend moneyon schools.

In 2000 the American Civil Liberties Union filed aclass-action lawsuit against California. The ACLU said thatminority and poor students have inadequate schools andhave no hope of a proper education.

Has your public school system cut back on bus serviceby saying that elementary and middle-school children who

120

Page 120: Perfect Evil

Schools and Children 121

live relatively close to the school must now walk to school? When school systems cut down on bus transportation, theyput kids at risk of being hit by cars. Is there no money forcrossing guards? Kids ask their parents to drive them toschool because they are afraid to cross certain highways, soparents have to choose between being late to work or puttingtheir children at risk. But you don’t have to worry, Conser-vatives will keep your taxes low and give money to privateschools by taking even more money from the public schools. When kids going to school are killed by cars, Conservativessay it is the public school system’s fault for not doing agood job.

Has your public school system terminated teachers andraised the number of students per class to balance the budgetbecause there was not enough tax money? Do Conservativesthen complain that teachers are doing an inferior job?

Has your public school system taken money fromschool construction funds to pay for teachers salaries and/or day-to-day expenses?

Has your public school system raised the price ofschool lunches to help balance the school budget? Has theschool board made that change in a secret session to keepit from taxpayers as long as possible? (They have to get themoney somehow to pay for the schools.)

In 2000 President Clinton asked the Republican Con-gress for emergency money to repair the country’s crum-bling schools. He did not get what he wanted.

Conservatives cut taxes and cut funding for publicschools. Then, they complain that the public schools aredoing a bad job, so they take more money away from thepublic schools, especially the poor ones, and give it to pri-vate schools. Conservatives have a perfect plan to getmoney to private and religious schools, and it is workingvery well. It is perfect—PERFECT EVIL.

States say that they have lotteries to help pay for educa-tion. The lottery profits are supposed to go to the schools.

Page 121: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil122

However, some states give the money to the schools, andsome states put the money in their general fund. What doesyour state do with its lottery money? Who is actually get-ting it?

President Clinton tried, more than once, to obtain fund-ing for adequate child care. Republicans prevented any ofthe President’s proposals from becoming law.

It is hard to find good, affordable child care. Womenunderstand this better than men do, which is why we needto elect to public office more women who will addressthis problem.

Child care is also necessary for teenage mothers whowant to continue their education. Society saves a lot ofmoney in the long run if teenagers finish school and get adecent job, instead of going on welfare. You can spend alittle money for a short period of time, or spend a lot ofmoney over a longer period of time. You would think mostpeople would understand this, but they get confused byConservative rhetoric.

Children know it is easy to get suspended from school. They can get in a fight, say something inappropriate to ateacher, etc. Then, they get to stay home, sometimes unsu-pervised.

Some schools when they suspend students also do notlet those students make up school work, homework or tests. Therefore, the kids get failing grades during their suspen-sion. This is nuts! With no school work to do, you give thekids a vacation. Plus, the kids can reach a point in a hurrywhere they just don’t care if they go back to school becausethey are so far behind. You are creating society’s futureproblems.

The one thing you do not want to do is let the childrencontrol whether they go to school or not. Conservativesthink they are being tough on kids by suspending them, butin reality, the kids are controlling the situation by doingexactly what they have to (break a rule) to get exactly what

Page 122: Perfect Evil

Schools and Children 123

they want (a vacation from school). If you want to punisha student, you have to make them do something they do notwant to do. You can make them stay in school and put themin a study room where they must study and do homework. You can make them perform community service, withschool credit. You can ask all the students what they thinkwould be good alternatives to suspension. Anything is betterthan turning kids loose to do whatever they want to dowhile their parents are at work.

Conservatives do not want children to know about sex. They believe the best way to stop kids from having sex isto increase funding for abstinence programs. Just tell thechildren not to have sex and that will solve the problem.

Conservatives talk about increasing funds for absti-nence-only programs, but where do you think they will getthe money from since they are going to cut your taxes? They will get it by cutting money from family-planningprograms. They don’t want girls to know about ‘‘safe sex’’because then there would be fewer abortions, and they don’twant to lose that issue. Conservatives could care less aboutchildren from troubled families. Let them get sexually trans-mitted diseases! It’s their own fault for not being born intoa perfect, Conservative family. They were born to the wrongparents and deserve to die from an illegal abortion or froma disease. Only perfect Conservatives are allowed to live intheir perfect world. Abstinence is a good message, a goodplan ‘‘A,’’ but you need a plan ‘‘B’’ for when plan ‘‘A’’does not work. Abstinence will not work 100% of the time!

The ‘‘voucher’’ system that Conservatives want imple-mented in the U.S. has some flaws and must be closelyscrutinized. It is terribly wrong to take money from publicschools and give it to private schools. The answer is to findadditional revenue for both. Poor schools need more money, not less. It is crazy to give private schools tax dollars andnot require that their students take the same standard statetests that public school students take. Private schools should

Page 123: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil124

meet the same standards as public schools. If private schoolsare going to get tax dollars, they should be held accountable.

In 1999 Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s program of givingextra dollars to schools who scored the best had an interest-ing result. The principal and some teachers in a SarasotaCounty school refused to take the money. They did not thinkit was right for an affluent school, that has good teachersand equipment and students that normally score well, to berewarded with additional tax dollars.

This is Robin Hood in reverse. Conservatives take themoney from poor and middle-class schools and give it tothe affluent schools.

Since city schools perform so badly and the suburbanschools perform so well, and Conservatives want to givekids vouchers to go to any school they want, why not justclose down all the city schools and bus all the kids to thesuburban schools?

Another problem that the voucher system could causeis having children attend various religious schools. Youcould wind up creating schools for each religion, and thereare a lot of religions. Many religions are growing rapidlyin this country. The taxpayers would have to pay for allthese new religious schools. Kids would go to school onlywith kids from their own religion. They would have noexposure to kids of other faiths until they went to collegeor work. This is a good way to promote stereotypes andcause friction between religions, as occurs in other coun-tries. We could wind up creating a school system thatteaches religious terrorism inside the United States. A na-tion divided cannot stand.

Our children are our future. But, Conservatives do notwant to share the resources equally to give every child inAmerica a bright future.

Page 124: Perfect Evil

21

EMPLOYEES AND COMPANIES

Republicans have always supported companies over theirworkers. Conservatives believe that if you give the moneyto the rich, the rich will buy or build companies, and peoplewill have a job. The companies will pay wages and givemedical, dental, life insurance, and other benefits. The prob-lem in recent years is that companies have reduced benefitsor increased the cost of benefits, while holding down wages.

Millions of Americans have no health coverage. Manylow-wage workers have no health coverge, despite the factthat we had a good economy over a long period of time. They had a job, but their companies did not offer anyhealth benefits.

Of course, when the economy is not doing well, youhave even more people without jobs or health coverage.

Companies that do have health benefits will give theiremployees a raise, but then they increase the amount em-ployees pay for benefits and the effect is that the employeesreceive no net pay increase.

Conservatives will not allow any laws to be passedthat would mandate companies to offer affordable healthcoverage to all their employees.

Studies have shown that the U.S. health care systemsare not very good at providing preventive care. This relatesto the millions of Americans with no health coverage.

Other countries have better health care for more oftheir people and the people live longer, even though theU.S. spends more per person than any other country.

The U.S. is real good at spending money after theperson is sick and ends up in a hospital.

125

Page 125: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil126

Republicans are against a national health care plan. Itmay not be the answer, but maybe parts of the plan couldbe used. The current health systems leave too many people, especially single women, children, working poor and minor-ities, without health coverage. The idea that companieswould take care of workers has not worked.

We, at the very least, need community-rated planswhere small companies can join a pooled community planwith affordable health care. We used to have communityhealth plans, but private insurance companies were allowedto go to big companies and insure their workers, companyby company, until the only people left in the communityplan were the poor, so the community plans ceased to exist. This was called ‘‘cherry picking.’’ The big companies savedmoney at first, but later, because they were now in a smallergroup, their costs just kept increasing and the companiespassed the cost on to the employees by having them contrib-ute more and more for health coverage with larger deduct-ibles.

Another huge problem that the government has al-lowed to happen is that companies have eliminated retire-ment benefits for future retirees. Most workers do notrealize that when they retire they will not have medical, dental or life insurance coverage. Some companies have‘‘grandfathered’’ their older workers so that they will stillreceive some benefits, if they were hired before a certaindate, but newer and future workers will have no benefits.

Some companies have also eliminated their pensionplans and replaced them with 401K plans, or nothing at all.If the employees do not contribute to their 401K plan, theywill have almost nothing to retire on. Another problem with401K plans is that the plans allow employees to borrowagainst them, usually up to 50% of the money in the plan.Often, when employees are laid off and have a loan, theycannot pay back the loan and, thus, lose much of theirmoney from the plan. Besides, what little money retirees

Page 126: Perfect Evil

Employees and Companies 127

will have will be used to pay for medical and dental ex-penses. The Republican theory that companies will takecare of employees’ benefits has led to a disaster that is aboutto happen, and no one is doing anything about it.

And if you think the current retirees are safe fromlosing what benefits they already have, you haven’t beenpaying attention. Some companies have eliminated currentretiree non-pension benefits, or increased the retiree contri-butions significantly. The retirees have sued the companiesand some have won, but some have lost, depending on thelanguage in the contracts, booklets, brochures, letters, etc.Other companies have gone out of business, which meansthey cannot pay the monthly premiums on the medical, den-tal, life insurance policies, etc., and the coverage is can-celed. These benefits are not funded the way the pensionplans are funded.

One trick that insurance companies use to get out ofcovering sick retirees is particularly insidious. The retireesare told that they have guaranteed coverage in a pooled planand the pool will not be terminated as long as there stillare participants. Then, the insurance company closes thepool and stops new people from joining that pool. The ratesin the pool are then raised. As the rates get too high, healthyparticipants leave and go to less expensive pooled coverage. They are accepted easily because they are healthy. Sincethere now are fewer and fewer people in the plan, the ratesgo higher and higher. Eventually, only the very sick are leftin that plan. Finally, the rates are so expensive even theyhave to drop their coverage, and the plan is terminated. Thevery sick now have no coverage and cannot join a new planbecause they are too sick to be accepted. They are facedwith two choices: go back to work, if possible, to get bene-fits; or live in fear with no coverage at all. Of course, theycould declare bankruptcy or lose all their assets and go onmedicaid. There are no good choices available to them un-der the current system.

Republicans protect the companies, while the employ-ees are left to fend for themselves.

Page 127: Perfect Evil

22

DEBT, SOCIAL SECURITY, ANDMEDICARE

We all know that Conservatives hate social programs andlove tax cuts. If they could, they would eliminate socialsecurity and medicare and give the money to the rich, whowould then take care of us somehow (if they felt like it).Conservatives would tell you that you should work hardand get rich, and they will help you get rich by giving youtax cuts. This is not very realistic, but Conservatives havenever been realistic, and I don’t expect they will start now.Conservatives used to talk about paying down the nationaldebt, but now they are more interested in tax breaks. I sup-pose they will worry about the debt sometime in the future,if ever.

Why should you care about the government payingdown the national debt? It helps the economy because thegovernment reduces its borrowing demand, which reducesinterest rates for you and for companies.

The national debt soared to record levels after RonaldReagan became president. The debt has experienced somereduction while Bill Clinton was president. But, it shouldbe reduced much further.

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan has askedthe Republican Congress on several occasions to reduce thenational debt. But the Republicans wanted tax cuts instead.

Democrates have proposed reducing the national debt, saving social security and improving medicare with a pre-scription drug benefit. The Republicans prefer tax cuts.

128

Page 128: Perfect Evil

Debt, Social Security, and Medicare 129

Retirees have had to return to work to pay for theirprescriptions. You should care about this issue. You maywant to retire some day.

When Republicans in Washington cut taxes, there is aripple effect. The government gives with one hand andtakes away with the other hand. If the federal governmentreduces any dollars it gives to the states, the middle-classwill have to makeup the differnce, because the rich havereceived huge tax cuts and the poor have no money.

With companies eliminating retirement benefits andpensions, and 401K plans depending on employee contribu-tions and not taking out loans, we better make sure socialsecurity and medicare are safe and, if necessary, expanded. For many seniors, that is all they are going to have. If youwant to set up a second retirement government plan, like a401K plan, with risks involved, you must exclude high riskstocks and bonds and only allow low risk investments. Butmake sure the basic social security and medicare systemsare left as is, without risk, or you will find a lot of peopleforced onto welfare. I do not trust Conservatives to do anyof these things. They are too busy trying to make the richeven richer. Tax breaks always favor the rich, with a fewcrumbs going to everyone else, and everyone else only getsthose crumbs if other taxes do not go up.

WELFARE

Conservatives attack those on welfare as being lazy peoplewho are mostly members of minority groups and who donot want to get a job.

Conservatives also stereotype welfare recipients as mi-norities who live in the inner-cities.

However, many people on welfare are white and manylive in rural communities.

Some people on welfare were sick and unable to workfor a period of time. They needed help to survive and getstarted again.

Some people lost their jobs due to layoffs, were forcedto relocate and needed help to start over.

Some people on welfare are too young or too old towork.

There are many reasons why people are on assistanceother than the myth that they do not want to work.

Many people who work are still poor. Try working forthe minimum wage, or even slightly above it, with no medi-cal benefits, and you will understand what it is like to beamong the working poor. Believe me, you are in an impossi-ble situation unless you receive some assistance. If your jobis seasonal and you are out of work several months a year, you have even fewer resources. There is no way a singlemother can pay the rent, utilities, food, transportation, medi-cal, dental and other basics without help. For adults andchildren to escape public assistance, they must have helpwith:

* Education/Job training

130

Page 130: Perfect Evil

Welfare 131

* Health benefits* Income for rent, utilities, food, etc.* Food stamps* Transportation* Child care/After school programs* Birth control (especially teenagers)* Parenting classes* Job search* Good paying jobs

Support groups, volunteers, government, etc., all needto work together to break the cycle of welfare. We needto spend some money on assistance to prevent long-termreliance on welfare. Children need the proper conditions tomake sure they do not get trapped in welfare. The kidscannot go to work. They must have a good education andaccess to family planning (in case they do not heed theabstinence message).

But there is one kind of welfare that Republicans andConservatives just love, and that is corporate welfare. Theygive tax breaks, provide loopholes and programs for variousthings to corporations and companies. The corporate lobby-ists make sure the Conservatives know what the corpora-tions want. Now, I am not saying all corporate welfare isbad. Sometimes it is needed to get a business off the ground,to fight illegal or unfair foreign competition, etc. Some-times, however, it is impossible to stop, even when it is notneeded any more. It is very wrong to say it is just fine togive assistance to corporations and companies, and thendeny assistance to individual adults and children in need.

One method they have created to toss children out onthe street is to limit the number of years the adults canreceive welfare. That is not a problem when the economyis providing plenty of jobs (although many of the jobs areservice jobs that do not pay a living wage), but what willhappen when the economy is in a slowdown?

Page 131: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil132

Many people still go hungry in America. The workingpoor do not earn enough to pay all their bills such as rent, utilities, medical, etc. and pay for adequate food for theirfamilies.

Poverty effects more people than you realize. We musttarget poverty to help solve the welfare problem. The work-ing poor have no voice in Republican politics, and taxbreaks have very little affect on their small income.

GOVERNMENT

Conservatives used to talk about how important it was forlegislators to have term limits. Then, a funny thing hap-pened. The Republicans won the House and the Senate inWashington. Guess what happened? They decided term lim-its were not such a good idea after all.

If a legislator were facing their final term in officebecause of term limits, special interest groups would not beable to threaten them by saying they will lose the next elec-tion. Term limits work for the office of president, and theycan work in the House and Senate.

Term limits should not be too short a time period. Justas you do not want legislators to be in office 50 years, youdo not want them to serve just one term, either. Perhaps aterm limit of four three-year terms, for a total of 12 years, for the House and three four-year terms, for a total of 12years, for the Senate. If the president has a maximum of 8years to complete his or her agenda, then 12 years (50%more time) should be enough for the House and Senatepoliticians to complete their agendas.

Conservatives do not like it when courts rule againstthem. Lately, they have been angry when courts strike downlaws banning partial-birth abortions, school vouchers, etc. They talk about how important the law is, but when thecourts apply the laws fairly and equally, Conservatives getvery angry. Conservatives do, not want fair laws. They wanteveryone to think as they do, and they are willing to destroythe legal system to get what they want. And that makesthem dangerous. They can do things to our legal system thatno army from any other country could force on us.

133

Page 133: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil134

In 2000 Florida Republican legislators were mad atFlorida courts for finding school vouchers unconstitutional, allowing recounts of presidential votes and other rulingsthey did not like.

Republicans want to make changes to the Florida Su-preme Court which would have the court rule the way theywant it to. Republicans want to add two new members tothe court and a powerful chief justice appointed by the Re-publican governor. Other changes are also proposed.

There is a problem with having the courts rule exactlyas Republicans want them to rule. You lose the separationof power between the legislature, the executive branch andthe courts. You windup with only one branch of govern-ment—Conservative Republicans.

Florida has a Republican governor, a Republican Sen-ate, a Republican House and Conservatives want a Republi-can Supreme Court (a Republican judicial branch).

Only a free and impartial court system has any chanceto control the dangerous beliefs of Conservatives. Republi-cans do not want the best qualified judges, or any judgethat does not think exactly as they do.

Conservatives do not believe in our constitution, ourdifferent branches of government, our separation of powers,or any law that prevents them from forcing every Americanto think and act exactly as they believe you should.

Conservatives talk about protecting your rights as acitizen, including your right to privacy. If their corporatebuddies want your personal data, however, then your rightsgo to the back of the pack in a hurry.

Congressional Republicans support legislation thatallows companies to share your personal data with any oftheir affiliated companies.

Financial institutions sent Americans Privacy Policiesand Privacy Statements. You had to write a letter or fill outa form requesting your personal information not be sharedwith other companies and send it to the institutions.

Page 134: Perfect Evil

Government 135

It should have been the opposite. Your peronal infor-mation should not be shared with any other company, unlessyou send a form approving the release of your private re-cords.

In 1996 Susan McDougal refused to answer grand juryquestions about Whitewater, President Clinton and his wifeHillary. Susan was sent to jail for civil contempt.

After 18 months in jail Whitewater prosecutor KennethStarrs’ team brought Susan back to answer questions againand suggested she could be charged with criminal contempt.Susan refused to answer the questions about the Clintonsin front of the grand jury again.

Susan said privately that she did not know of any ille-gal activities that involved the Clintons.

Starr had offered Susan immunity if she testified, aslong as she did not commit perjury.

Susan said Starr was trying to force her to lie aboutthe Clintons. She was afraid that if she told the truth aboutthe Clintons being innocent, Starr would charge her withperjury.

Susan and her husband, James McDougal, werecharged in the Whitewater investigation and convicted offraud.

James died in prison. But, before he died, James wrotea note that indicated he was going to lie about the Clintonsto secure immunity.

In 1996 Susan finally got her trial on refusing to an-swer questions in front of a grand jury. She answered allthe questions in front of the trial jury. The jury acquittedher of obstructing the Whitewater investigation. Susan wasreleased from jail.

When an investigator/prosecutor has absolute powerand tells someone that if they answer questions a certainway they will get a good deal or no prison time, but if theyanswer questions another way, a way that the investigatordoes not like, they will go to jail, not many people have the

Page 135: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil136

courage to stand against them. The government must becareful to have some checks and balances in place when itgives an investigator such unlimited power and funds.Could you stand against such pressure? What if you hadkids to take care of? It is a lot harder than you think to tellthe truth in the face of certain jail time.

Congress has done nothing in years to help people inhealth matters. The ‘‘patient’s bill of rights’’—giving pa-tients minimum rights when being rejected for a medicalprocedure, giving patients the right to sue health insurers, regulating health maintenance organizations (HMO),etc.—has gone nowhere. Millions of Americans still haveno health coverage. Companies are not increasing the num-ber of employees covered for health care. Republicans aretoo busy giving tax breaks for the rich to help those whoneed it the most.

The government should mandate that if you have ajob, you must receive health coverage from the employer. The government should pass the laws necessary to makethis happen. They could create community rating, largepooling systems, or national health care that supplementsprivate coverage—anything that would help employers giveaffordable health coverage to their employees. It is im-portant to have healthy employees who are at work and notat home sick, and that small illnesses be caught quicklybefore they become large, expensive hospitalizations. Thereshould be a law passed that when someone retires from acompany the company must offer health coverage, even ifthe retiree must pay 100% of the premium. That way, theretiree will have guaranteed coverage that cannot be can-celed if the retiree gets sick, and the retiree also will haveguaranteed group rates.

Conservatives do not like to get involved with prob-lems outside of the United States. Many Conservatives areIsolationist and many of them hate the United Nations orga-nization. President George W. Bush did not want to get

Page 136: Perfect Evil

Government 137

deeply involved in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, like Presi-dent Clinton did. There is a problem with that policy. Theweapons used by Israel to kill Palestinians are U.S.-madeweapons. We appear to most of the Arab world to be help-ing Israel, but not the Palestinians. By not getting deeplyinvolved, we allow the conflict to worsen. Then, when weare finally drawn into the conflict, we are more deeply in-volved than we should have been. Waiting until a conflict,we are partially involved in, gets worse; can put Americansin danger. The U.S. must use its diplomatic and economicpower to create a Palestinian State.

Over 100 countries came to an agreement on Control-ling Biological Weapons. Conservatives and PresidentGeorge W. Bush rejected the agreement. After the Septem-ber 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and thePentagon President Bush decided that the countererrorismbill, which included a provision to outlaw harmful biologi-cal agents in deadly quantities, was a good idea.

When Ronald Reagan was president in the 1980’s therewas a big federal tax cut and the deficit grew to recordlevels. The rich saved thousands of dollars in federal taxand the middle-class saved hundreds of dollars. During thesame period the Social Security tax (FICA) increased byhundreds of dollars. The FICA increases offset the tax cutsreceived by the middle-class.

I still talk to people today, some who are too young toremember Reaganomics, that actually believe that the littleguy received a tax break during the Reagan years. Not onlydid social security taxes go up, but state and local taxeswere increased, also. I guess Republicans can get somepeople to believe anything.

Republicans and their policies have made the rich be-yond rich now. They are obscenely rich. They are not mil-lionaires anymore; they are billionaires. The middle-classgets smaller as more people move into service jobs, and theworking-poor class keeps growing, with fewer benefits.

Page 137: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil138

And, still, the Conservatives want to give more tax breaksto the rich!

Also, when Ronald Reagan was president, Conserva-tives created a secret government. Reagan had vowed neverto deal with terrorists. But, Conservatives in the WhiteHouse traded arms to Iran for the release of U.S. hostagesin Iran and money. The money was diverted to buy armsfor rebels (Contras) in Nicaragua. There was a congres-sional ban on aid to the Contras. This was called the ‘‘Iran-Contra Affair.’’ Reagan said he did not know anythingabout the secret dealings. Reagan fired National SecurityAdviser, John Poindexter and Military aide, Lt. Col. OliverNorth. So, we have Conservatives in the government mak-ing deals with people who take hostages (terrorists) andkeeping it a secret from the President. It is hard to believethat this could happen in America. But, if you understandConservatives, you understand that they could care lessabout laws or who they make deals with, even if the peoplethey deal with are evil.

25

CAMPAIGN FUNDING

Remember when Conservatives wanted campaign fundingreform? That was before the Republicans took over theHouse and Senate in Washington. It was not on their prioritylist for a long time.

Everyone knows that money will buy you access topoliticians. Politicians listen to the rich, corporations andthe powerful special interest groups because they want largecampaign contributions to help them get elected or re-elected.

Republicans complain that Unions give money to thedemocrats, but not all union members are democrats.

However, Republicans do not complain when corpora-tions give money to the Republicans, but not all stockhold-ers are Republicans.

Corporations contribute a lot more to politicians andpolitical parties than unions contribute.

Rpublicans complained that president Clinton was re-warding big compaign contributors with sleep overs andcoffee meetings at the White House. It is illegal to raisefunds on federal property.

Congress brings their contributors to the capitol forspecial events. Republican House Leader, Newt Gingrichbrought in lobbyists who supported his fund-raising to helpwrite bills in the lobbyist’s clients favor.

President Reagan hosted the Republican Eagles, whowere big campaign donors, at the White House, where heasked them for more help.

In the 1990’s president Bush hosted the RepublicanTeam 100, a group of big donors, at the White House.

139

Page 139: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil140

They all use the same valid excuse, they are not raisingcontributions on federal property, they are just rewardingbig contributors who have given previously or will give itthe future away from federal property. No one is doinganything illegal.

‘‘Soft money’’ is unregulated money that is given tonational political parties. Since the money is not given to aparticular candidate, anyone or any group can contributewhatever they want to.

‘‘Issue ads’’ are ads created by special interest groupsor organizations that are supposed to state their opinion ofan issue. They are actually ads that attack particular candi-dates. These groups can spend whatever they want to onthe ads because they are, supposedly, not affiliated withany candidates.

Candidates like these ads because no matter how outra-geous the ads are, they can claim they had nothing to dowith the ads and are not responsible for the content.

Rich individuals and corporations find ways to give asmuch as they want to candidates. Internal Revenue Servicerulings, court rulings and election laws all provide loopholesfor uncontrolled contributions. Donor identities are oftenkept secret, legally.

When fund raisers are held aboard yachts and at man-sions, you will probably not be invited.

Republicans in Congress used the filibuster to kill cam-paign-finance reform in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. TheHouse killed finance reform in 2001.

Rich individuals and corporations give large amountsto the Republicans and have access to them to get lawspassed that help them or defeat the passage of laws thathurt them. The middle class, children, minorities and poorpeople can not donate large sums of money. They can onlybe noticed by politicians when they vote. More of themneed to vote.

Page 140: Perfect Evil

Campaign Funding 141

Campaign Finance Reform will require the followingchanges:

1. Take some tax dollars and give it to the politiciansto fund their campaigns. It would not cost that muchper person and it would free politicians to do theirreal job. It would take away the influence that spe-cial interests have on politicians. It would becheaper in the long run.

2. Provide some free TV time to each candidate. Thereshould be equal TV time for each candidate. If not,the public only sees the candidate with the mostmoney.

3. Eliminate ‘‘soft money’’ contributions to politicalparties.

4. Limits on contributions should apply to individualsand groups.

5. Give tax breaks to middle-class people who contrib-ute to campaigns.

6. Restrict ‘‘issue ads’’ that are thinly-veiled politicalattack ads.

7. Everyone who gives money to any kind of politicalorganization must be identified.

If Congress does pass any reforms, do you think loop-holes will still exist for the rich, corporations and special in-terests?

RICHARD NIXON

I had expected that Republican President Richard Nixonwould have done more good things like when he establishedU.S. relations with communist China, but the bad he didfar outweighed the good. He had problems with judgment, and he seemed to be paranoid. What really made me madwas that I had voted for him. The Nixon presidency, alongwith my college years, is what started my change from aConservative to a liberal. I started to realize that Conserva-tives never solve problems, they just create them. By thetime Ronald Reagan came along, I realized what he wasgoing to do and not do ahead of time, and I never voted forhim. I think I was the only one.

The Watergate scandal occurred when President Nixonand other people in the White House engaged in an obstruc-tion of justice. You can read about all the details in thebook, All The President’s Men, by Carl Bernstein andBob Woodward.

In 1973 some amazing events occured that shows howdangerous a Conservative president can be. Archibald Coxwas the Watergate special prosecutor. Cox was investigtingthe White House cover-up of the break-in at the DemocraticNational Committee offices at the Watergate complex andwas seeking access to the White House tape recordings.

On Saturday, October 20, President Nixon ordered El-liot Richardson, the U.S. attorney general to fire Cox. Rich-ardson refused to fire Cox and resigned.

Then, the deputy U.S. attorney general, William Ruck-elshaus, was ordered to fire Cox. Ruckelshaus refused andwas fired. Solicitor General Robert Bork did fire Cox.

142

Page 142: Perfect Evil

Richard Nixon 143

These events came to be known as the ‘‘SaturdayNight Massacre.’’

The Supreme Court ruled that the White House taperecordings of the cover-up had to be given to the new specialprosecutor. The House Judiciary Committee voted to recom-mend impeachment to the House of Representatives. Nixonthen resigned as president in 1974.

President Nixon expanded the Vietnam War and at-tacked communist troops in Cambodia. This caused protestsin the United States.

In 1970 students were protesting the Vietnam War atthe Kent State University in Ohio. National Guard troopswere sent to the campus to control the students. Theguardsmen open fire on the students. They killed four stu-dents and wounded nine others. How can any governmentsend troops to a university and shoot unarmed students?

As long as I live, I will always wonder why theguardsmen did not fire warning shots into the ground or upinto the air, which would have been enough to scare off thestudents, if that was there intent. Then again, why did theyneed to shoot at all? How could they shoot unarmed stu-dents? I know Conservatives love to show power and au-thority when faced with something that they don’t like.Conservatives hated Vietnam War protesters. But the lasttime I checked, this was still a free country. Conservativesreally do not want people to have too much freedom, andyou better not do something they don’t like.

President Nixon had an enemies list, a list of peoplehe thought were a threat to him. I believe that is a sign ofparanoia. He tried to use the IRS to go after some of them. For some people, it was an honor to be on his list. Youmust be doing something right, if a Conservative is mad atyou. I imagine I would have been on that list.

The White House tape recordings revealed that presi-dent Nixon requested IRS tax audits of Jewish campaigncontributors, who made contributions to Democrats. Nixon

Page 143: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil144

wanted to have Jews investigated to see if they could findsomething they did wrong and then use that information toattack them. Nixon and his aides were afraid of Jews andthey thought they were above the law. They were wrong.

Conservatives have a tendency to be paranoid, andNixon was as paranoid as they get. It is scary to think hewas the president of the United States.

Page 144: Perfect Evil

27

MILITARY

Conservatives just love to give lots of money to the military.Yes, we do need a strong military, but the military must beefficient and strong in the right areas. If the money is notspent where it is needed the most, you have a military thatis not prepared to fight modern wars, terrorists, etc. Wemust have weapons that are what the military really needs, not what they may wish for, or what politicians think wouldbe good for business in their district, or what an industrywants to sell the military, or what starts out as a reasonableidea for a weapons system, but gets totally out of control. You cannot give the military complete control of militaryprojects. Congress must keep a watchful eye on them. Youwould be amazed, or maybe not, at what the military canspend money on.

We also must have a military that is honest about itscapabilities and honest about actual events. Even the small-est lie can have very serious consequences. Lies can startwars, prolong wars, prevent us from entering a war whenwe should, or end a war before we could have finished it.

No country has used nuclear weapons against anothercountry since the U.S. dropped two nuclear bombs on Japanto end World War II.

Countries with nuclear weapons have not attacked eachother with these weapons because of MAD and the 1972SALT I treaty. MAD is Mutual Assured Destruction, whichmeans that if a country attacks another country with nuclearweapons, the country being attacked would have enoughnuclear weapons left to strike back and destroy the attacking

145

Page 145: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil146

country. It would be suicide to attack another country withnuclear weapons. The SALT or ABM (Anti-Ballistic Mis-sile) treaty of 1972 limits missile defenses and its the basisof arms control.

In the 1980’s preisdent Ronald Reagan proposed theStrategic Defense Initiative (SDI) or ‘‘Star Wars’’ missiledefense shield which would protect the U.S. from attack byenemy Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), whichwould destabilize arms control by giving the U.S. somethingno other country has. This would force other countries tobuild missile defenses or build more nuclear weapons tocounter our missile defenses. The cost of this missile de-fense would be enormous and there are questions as towhether it could ever work.

Currently, the Star Wars system is called the NationalMissile Defense (NMD) and is to be used to defend againstan attack from countries with a small nuclear force suchas North Korea or China, or potential missile threats fromcountries like Iraq or Libya.

Of course, first you have to believe that these countriesare ‘‘MAD’’ and want to see their countries destroyed byU.S. retaliation.

The NMD is a smaller version of Star Wars. It willstill cost billions of dollars. Conservative Republicans suchas Senator Jesse Helms want the larger and more costlyStar Wars system.

European allies of the U.S. and NATO are both op-posed to the National Missile Defense. They are worriedabout the effect NMD will have on the ABM treaty andarms control. They also do not believe there is a real nuclearthreat from countries with a small nuclear force.

China is unhappy with the U.S. National Missile De-fense. The NMD would neutralize China’s small nuclearforce. China has indicated that it would increase their nu-clear missile force to counter our NMD. China is apprehen-sive of what a Conservative Republican government might

Page 146: Perfect Evil

Military 147

do, because they attack China as a threat to the UnitedStates and Taiwan.

If you factor in that the Republicans want to build alarger, more expensive ‘‘Star Wars’’ missile defense sys-tem, other countries may not feel safe from a Republicanadministration. You never can be sure what Conservativesmight do. They often do not think rationally, and they cannever be trusted not to do something crazy.

Russia has stated that it has misgivings about the Na-tional Missile Defense. Russia may soften its positionagainst the NMD if it can get something in return.

In January, 2000 there was a test of the National Mis-sile Defense. A missile tried to hit a mock warhead launchedfrom Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. It failed, even though no defensive measures were used by thewarhead.

In July, 2000 there wss another test of the NMD. Theteam firing the missile to intercept the warhead knew all thedetails about the firing of the warhead. They knew whenthe warhead was being launched, where it was beinglaunched from, where it was going, any defensive measuresit would use, etc. The technology needed to make this NMDsystem work is very complicated and must work perfectly.

In July, 2001 the U.S. finally had a successful test ofthe NMD. A missile hit another missile.

Do not worry, we will spend many millions on numer-ous tests in the future.

Humans who are not perfect and companies that arenot perfect are going to build this system that needs to beperfect. Who knows what the system might choose to shootdown? It could shoot down anything that is in the air. We’vedone that before when our Navy shot down an Iranian pas-senger plane and when our Air Force shot down two U.S.Army helicopters in Iraq, despite all of our wonderful tech-nology.

Page 147: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil148

All this talk about North Korea attacking the U.S. is agood example of Republican scare tactics to get what theyreally want: an expensive system that will make theirfriends richer. North Korea now seems to be interested inmaking peace with South Korea. Their leaders have met forthe first time. North Korea even opened negotiations withthe Clinton administration. I believe that the new, youngerleader of North Korea has figured out that it is better andmore fun to be a dictator of a rich country than a dictatorof a poor country. As the old, hard-line dictators die off,the people and new leaders realize that the wonderful dicta-tors they suffered for are now dead, so why should theycontinue to suffer? Conservatives just hate it when they losea bad guy. Now, they have to go look somewhere else fora new bad guy. Terrorists are bad guys, but they do nothave any ICBM’s.

Of course, President Bush could reverse Clinton ad-ministration negotiations with North Korea and take a hardline against them in order to create tension between ourcountries and use that hostility to push for national mis-sile defense.

What Conservatives do not want you to think about orunderstand is that all this money and all these valuableresources are being spent to work (maybe) against only onetype of nuclear vehicle delivery system: The ICBM. ThisNational Missile Defense System, and the more expensive‘‘Star Wars’’ system the Republicans want, does not workagainst the following systems:

1. Cruise missiles (low-flying missiles that are difficultto detect).

2. Airplanes (bombers or other types of aircraft). Nu-clear bombs are smaller now. That is why you canhave multiple warheads in one ICBM. Almost anyplane could carry a nuclear bomb.

Page 148: Perfect Evil

Military 149

3. Submarines. They can get very close to their targets, leaving you no time to shoot down the missiles.

4. Surface ships, trucks, cars, suitcases, or any otherunconventional delivery method you can think of.

Something else that you are not supposed to thinkabout is that even if the military could get the NMD systemto work, there are counter measure an enemy can useagainst the system. Some examples are:

1. Decoy balloons made of various materials.2. Smart decoys that send out signals similar to those

of a warhead.3. Warheads could be made to detonate when hit by

the defensive missile, creating havoc with the re-maining defensive system.

4. Attack the Defensive System directly.5. Anything else that can be created by anyone.

So, even if you have a ‘‘miracle’’ where the NMDworks and the enemy counter measures do not work, allthe enemy has to do is use a different delivery system otherthan an ICBM. In fact, they do not even need an atomicbomb to attack America. Airplanes can be bombs (Unfortu-nately, that came true on September 11, 2001 when terror-ists attacked the World Trade Center in New York City andthe Pentagon in Washington using commerical airplanes).

We need to take money from the NMD and use it tomake our borders, harbors, ships (sea marshals), airports, planes, plane cockpits, bus terminals, dams, reservoirs, power plants, computer networks, etc. more secure. How-ever, if you solve the security problem with commercialplanes, you still have problems with charter planes andsmall aircraft.

Conservatives want you to be stupid and uninformedabout the truth. Conservatives rely on a stupid public to do

Page 149: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil150

whatever they want to do and give big money to their bud-dies. For anyone to say that Star Wars will make us safefrom nuclear attack is, to me, a criminal act. Conservativescannot even guarantee that our technology will work againstan ICBM or that decoys will not neutralize our technologyor terrorists will not use other methods and systems to attackus. It gives a false sence of safety, which is the most atro-cious lie to be perpetrated on the American people.

What does work is deterrence whose principle is, youattack us and we will annihilate you. Also, a strong CIA,FBI, and other intelligence agencies are needed to stop ter-rorists before they can commit their crimes. Intelligence iseverything. Of course, Conservatives and intelligence aremutually exclusive terms.

Conservatives believe they can win a war against ter-rorism by just using our military. Defeating terrorism mili-tarily is a temporary solution. We must use our diplomaticand economic power to solve problems, which is the realway to defeat terrorism.

Conservatives do not mind spending billions for thingsthey like, but they can find no money for the millions ofAmericans who have no health care, no child care, crum-bling schools, etc.

In 1995 former Defense Secretary Robert S. McNa-mara wrote a book titled In Retrospect: The Tragedy andLessons of Vietnam. The book explained a lot about themistakes made before and druing the war. After presidentJohn F. Kennedy, who refused to send combat troops toVietnam, was assassinated; ignorant politicians and govern-ment officials made some terrible decisions.

Military leaders also made mistakes and failed to leadwhen we needed leadership desperately.

One of the most terrible episodes of the Vietnam Waroccurred in the village of My Lai. Hundreds of old men, women and children were massacred. Some of them wereherded into ditches and shot, similar to what nazis did to

Page 150: Perfect Evil

Military 151

Jews and others in WWII. Lt. William Calley was court-martialed and found guilty. However, none of Calley’s su-periors were prosecuted.

There were some heroes at My Lai. Helicopter pilotHugh Thompson, crewmen Glenn Andreotta and gunnerLawrence Colburn saved some of the villagers. Thompsonput his helicopter between some villagers and the U.S. sol-diers. Thompson ordered Colburn to shoot the U.S. troopsif they tried to stop his rescue of the villagers. The troopsbacked down. There is a big difference between shootingunarmed old men, women and children and shooting atsomeone who can shoot back. Andreotta went into a ditchand rescued a young child. Andreotta died later in Vietnam.

The three heroes finally received the Soldier’s Medalfor saving the villagers about 30 years later in 1998. Aconservative military did not want to deal with what hap-pened at My Lai. They did not want anyone to know aboutwhat Thompson and his crew did. Thompson and Colburnreturned to My Lai in 1998 also. It seems as though thethree men received their medals because the military wasafraid of the Vietnamese honoring them, if the U.S. had notyet honored them.

I saw the story and the return trip on TV. It was amoving experience. It was very interesting to find out thatthe other officer accused by Thompson of being involvedin the massacre got off completely free of charges. Thomp-son was not happy about that.

If you want to try to understand the Vietnam War,you should watch the movie Hearts And Minds. This is anexcellent documentary about the war and the politics ofthe war. Everyone, especially high school students, shouldwatch it. One of the most interesting moments comes whenthey are showing a Vietnamese farmer’s outcry over thedeath of his 8-year-old daughter, his 3-year-old son and hismother. They were killed when his farmhouse was bombedby an American plane. He accuses Nixon of murder. The

Page 151: Perfect Evil

movie shows the intense pain and anguish of that farmerand others in several different scenes. Then, a scene showsGeneral William C. Westmoreland, who commanded U.S.forces in Vietnam from 1964 to 1968, saying, ‘‘Well, theOriental doesn’t put the same high price on life as does theWesterner. Life is plentiful and life is cheap in the Orient. As the philosophy of the Orient expresses it: Life is not im-portant.’’

Westmoreland’s statement could possibly be the singlemost asinine, inane, stupid statement in the history of theworld. It is the kind of statement Conservatives use to dehu-manize people who are different, thus rationalizing theharming or even killing of those lesser human beings. Thisstatement is not true. Orientals feel the pain of losing aloved one, just the same as we do. They love life, just aswe do. And they love their country, just as we do. Whatreally infuriates me is that at one time I believed whatWestmorland said. Not only did I believe it, I actually re-peated it, which is very hard for me to admit now. I hatemyself for doing that, and I apologize for what I did. I wasin the Air Force from 1963 to 1967. I believed almost any-thing the Conservatives said back then.

In 1982 Westmoreland filed suit against CBS becauseof a television show which indicated that during the Viet-nam War he delibertely misrepresented the North Vietnam-ese and Vietcong troop strength. But, days before the casewas to go to the jury, Westmoreland dropped the suit.

As I remember it, CBS issued a statement that wasacceptable to Westmoreland and CBS, so Westmorlanddropped the suit. I do not believe Westmoreland was a badperson. He was just raised to believe certain things, and hebelieved them. I believed them, too. Since then, I have cometo realize that what I believed then was not true.

Conservatives and some people in the military thoughtwe could win the war in Vietnam. What they failed to real-ize was that we would have to kill everyone in the country

Page 152: Perfect Evil

Military 153

to win. We would have to kill every communist in the Northand everyone who could be a communist in the South. Thinkabout it: if someone invaded the United States, how longwould you fight to remove them from the U.S.? You wouldfight as long as you lived. Then, you would expect yourchildren to fight on after you. Then, you would expect yourgrandchildren to fight on after that, and so on—fore-ver—until the invaders left or every American was dead. What makes you think it would be any different in anyother country?

President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned Americansabout the Military-Industrial Complex. He said we mustguard against the influence and the power of the militaryand the arms industry working together against the bestinterest of the country.

The Army spent many millions developing a tank-mounted, radar-guided gun to shoot down aircraft, calledthe Sergeant York. It could not even hit a helicoper. Theprogram was cancelled.

Then the Army decided to create a system that waseven more complicatd, called the Forward-Area Air-De-fense system (FAAD). FAAD was designed to use missilesmounted on armored chassis, missiles on trucks, gunsmounted on tanks and cannons on another vehicle. It wasvery complicated and would cost billions.

Actually, a good missile system works best againstaircraft or tanks.

The military has put officers in charge of systems thatknow nothing about technology, which is critical to creatingmodern weapon systems.

The method the Army used to create its weapons hadsome problems that needed to be corrected. The Army andother services seemed to have no clue that simple can bebetter. The more complicated the weapon is, the more thingscan go wrong. In battle, you want something that works, not the most complicated weapon in the world.

Page 153: Perfect Evil

HBO’s The Pentagon Wars, is a movie based on actualevents. What the military did to the Bradley Fighting Vehi-cle is hard to believe. The military took a good idea andmade it so complicated that it became dangerous for soldiersto ride in. It became a moving bomb. Fortunatley, an AirForce colonel was assigned to test the troop transport. Thecolonel destroyed his militry career to expose the Bradleyas an unsafe vehicle. He was successful and the flaws inthe Bradley were corrected. He saved the lives of many sol-diers.

The movie shows how military officers can put theirmilitary careers and the reward of future well-paying jobsin the defesne industry ahead of the country’s defense andthe safety of the ordinary soldier.

Everyone should watch the movie, especially highschool students. You will see a good example of the Mili-tary-Industrial Complex.

The latest military failure, which has cost soldiers theirlives, is the Osprey aircraft. The Osprey takes off like ahelicopter, rotates its propellers, then flies like an airplane. It seems as though the military did not report all the actualtest results and falsified records to hide the aircraft’s prob-lems. Several officers were charged with misconduct. ThreeMarine officers were found to be in violation of some ofthe charges.

The military must be controlled by a governmentwhich is not influenced by the defesne industry. If the gov-ernment and the military are influenced by the Military-Industrial Complex, then we will have a military created bymoney and profits. The ordinry soldier will have to pay theprice with their lives.

‘‘THE TENTH LEVEL’’

After WWII ended, many Nazis used the defense that theywere just following orders. They were just doing what Hitlertold them to do. It was not their fault. They just believedwhat their leaders told them. They were a very Conservativesociety trained to obey without question, which is exactlywhat Conservatives want. Americans think that they couldnever be like the Nazis. They would never follow orderswithout question. No one could get them to do somethingthey did not want to do.

The Tenth Level, was a CBS movie based on actual1963 studies by a Yale University professor. The studiestried to ascertain how far the average person would go ininflicting pain on other people if the subjects were absolvedof any responsibility by a high authority. The professor wasportrayed by William Shatner. In the movie subjects wereplaced in a room before a panel of buttons from one totwenty. In another room, hidden from their view, other sub-jects received electric shock of increasing intensity as eachof the buttons were pressed. At the ‘‘tenth level’’ the shockbacame painful. The results found that 90% of the subjectswent to the tenth level and more than 60% went all the wayto the top level which generated agonizing pain. The sub-jects could have been killing someone for all they knew. Aslong as the authority figure, the professor, told them it wasalright and they were not responsible, they kept pushing thebuttons going higher and higher. Would you follow ordersand do what you were told to do? Have you been trainedby Conservatives not to ask questions and just believe what-ever they tell you?

If you get a chance to see this movie, do not miss it.Every high school student should study the results of the1963 Yale University professor’s studies. It is important tounderstand how Conservatives can control you. Your freewill can be taken away from you if you do not questionthose who are telling you what to do and think. And, youdon’t even realize they are doing it to you.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

When I was a Conservative, I thought I knew everything. Ithought I had all the answers, and I believed what I wastold without question. I did not think for myself. I did noresearch or investigation. I did not read enough. I did noth-ing to inform myself. I have since learned that there are noeasy answers and no easy solutions, despite what Conserva-tives tell you.

We must not wait until they go to college to educateour children on the dangers of Conservatism. We must edu-cate them at the high school level. They must learn to ques-tion Conservative rhetoric. They should learn to think, usecommon sense, reason and basic intelligence correctly. They must learn about compassion and not hate someonewho is different from them. They should learn about logicand how people use a false premise to twist logic to theirown evil use. People can be ‘‘book smart,’’ but not havereal intelligence or wisdom. Getting the facts straight ismore important than you may realize.

It is my hope that this book will get you to think foryourself and ask questions. Do not follow leaders blindly. This is especially important as you get older, when youwant to protect what you have accumulated and you wantto be safe. Conservatives will tell you that if you just giveaway a little freedom here and there, they will help youkeep what you have and make you safe. But, as you haveseen, they actually do the opposite. Most people changefrom Liberal to Conservative as they get older. I did the op-posite.

157

Page 157: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil158

Many people do not want to make the effort to do allthe work that it takes to keep informed. It is easier to letsomeone or some institution tell them what to do and whatto think.

Sometimes people don’t see the truth when it is rightin front of them. They either don’t want to see it or won’tallow themselves to think differently from what they aretold to believe. Conservatives can’t stand people who thinkfor themselves. They want people who accept what they saywithout question and then repeat it like a parrot. Conserva-tives want people who think, see, hear and speak alike.

What do you think freedom is? Does freedom meanthat everyone must think as you do? Should everyone haveto listen to your Christian prayers? Should people have thefreedom of choice to watch what they want, or only whatyou think they should see? Should doctors and patientsmake medical decisions together, or should you decide whatmedical procedures are acceptable? Should anyone have thefreedom of choice, or should you decide for them?

The danger to the survival of the United States is notfrom the outside, but from within. It is not from communistsor the far left. You can see the dangers they represent andcounter it easily. Their economic system has never worked, and will never work. It is not from rogue countries or terror-ists. We can defeat them with our military, our intelligenceagencies and our diplomacy, whenever we are provoked ordecide to take action. No one outside the U.S. can destroyour country. The real danger is from the right, the Conserva-tives. It is more difficult to see the danger they pose. Theysay things that sound good as long as you do not analyzewhat they say. As I have shown you, they convince Ameri-cans to give away some of their freedoms. They pit onereligion against the other. They get people to accept thefact that millions of Americans have no medical care. Theydestroy the public school system. They make the rich evenricher and destroy the middle-class, creating two polarized

Page 158: Perfect Evil

Concluding Thoughts 159

classes, rich and poor. They can turn this country into athird-world country, with people hating each other becausethey are different, just as occurs in many other countries. You must be on guard against Conservative agendas. If youdo not pay attention to what they are doing, you will notrealize what has happened until it is too late. Conservativesjust suck you in deeper and deeper, until the country weknow and love disappears.

Did you ever notice that Republicans promise that theyare going to cut taxes every election? Did you ever hear aRepublican say that they were not going to cut taxes? Theyalso are going to give more money to the military, police, schools, and everyone else in front of them as they cam-paign. Somehow, however, the money promised by Conser-vatives never seems to materialize, except for the rich. Ifthey actually cut taxes as promised for the middle class afterevery election, there would be no taxes by now. Since therich have tax breaks and loopholes, and the poor have nomoney, where do you think the tax money comes from? The answer is, the middle class. It always comes from them.It has to. If the middle-class did not pay the taxes, therewould be no schools, roads, police, firefighters, military, etc. Conservatives lie all the time, and people believe them.I sometimes wonder if a Conservative can actually tell thetruth? They probably have a rule against it. If a Conservativedid tell the truth, they would probably be labeled as a liberal,a fate worst than death for a Conservative.

The elimination of the Estate tax is an example of howthe rich get richer and the middle-class gets poorer. Thetrick used by Republicans was to call it the ‘‘Death tax’’and make people believe they were going to benefit fromthe elimination of the Estate tax.

You only had to pay taxes on the estate value above$675,000 and that deduction was already going to be in-creased to $1,000,000 in a few years. Married people coulddouble the deduction. Small business and farmers had a

Page 159: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil160

larger deduction. Also, only about 2% of Americans aremillionaires or billionairs.

As the Estate tax is eliminated, so will the money thatis passed on to states. The federal government shared thetax dollars with the states. Now the states will have to getthe money from another source. Since the rich are going topay less in texes and have loopholes to use, and the poorhave no money, the middle-class will have to pay the taxincreases. What do I mean by tax increases, when Republi-cans are cutting your federal tax? Sometimes state and citytaxes are increased. If state taxes are cut for the rich, thenother taxes and/or fees are increased. Examples are:

1. Federal FICA2. Property (Rent)3. Water and sewer4. Sales5. Gasoline6. Cable TV7. Phone (take a close look at all the charges on your

phone bill)8. School9. etc.

Most of the bills you receive have some sort of tax and/orfees included.

Did you ever wonder why, if Conservatives are alwayscutting your taxes, you do not have any extra money inyour pocket? Most people seem to believe they are actuallyreceiving a tax cut. They vote for Conservatives who givetax breaks to the rich. Why do you want bigger tax breaksfor millionaires and billinaires? Do you believe that some-how the money will trickle down to you? If the rich buy aforeign car, a foreign yacht, a foreign company, a foreignvilla, etc.; the only benefit you can receive is to be one of

Page 160: Perfect Evil

Concluding Thoughts 161

their servants. Maybe the rich will invest in a U.S. companythat will create a service job for you paying minimum wage. One thing is for sure, the middle-class will have to pay morein taxes and fees to provide the money for all the servicesprovided by the government. Perhaps you believe that thebig tax breaks for the rich can be underwritten with moneyfrom a budget surplus. Well, that was a great idea as longas we never had an economic downturn. Whenever theeconomy hits a recession, and the rich are not paying taxes, the middle class will be left holding the bag. Remember, ifthe rich do not pay the taxes, YOU DO!

Conservatives live in a fantasy world where they be-lieve everyone has the same opportunity to become rich inAmerica. They have no understanding that everyone doesnot have the same opportunities. There are people with men-tal problems, people with physical problems that they cannot overcome, people who have been abused as children, people who do not speak english perfectly, people who at-tended inferior schools, women who are left to take care oftheir children alone, people who never had enough food tobe healthy, people who have never had medical coverage, people who have been in trouble with the law and have onlybeen punished—never helped, people who are not Chris-tians, people who are gay, people who are not white, peoplewho lost their job, etc.. You get the idea, everyone is notPerfect, like Conservatives are!

Conservatives will tell you we do not need more gunlaws, we just have to enforce the laws we already have. AsI stated before, there are many loopholes in current lawsand no coordination of the many different gun laws through-out the country.

Even when laws are passed, conservatives make it dif-ficult for law enforcement to do their job. Federal law en-forcement officals tried to prosecute a brother and his sisterwho were selling guns out of a store in Birmingham, Ala-bama. They were using various people to complete federal

Page 161: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil162

gun applications. Then, the guns were sold to criminals whocould not legally buy guns. A federal judge dismissed thecase because Congress did not pass a law clearly makingthese transations (straw purchases) illegal.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearmscan only inspect gun dealer’s records once a year and cannotuse undercover agents to pose as criminals to purchase gunsfrom gun dealers.

In Florida, pawnshops report the name, address, phonenumber and a fingerprint of anyone who pawns items, in-cluding guns, to a statewide database. Police use this datato catch people who pawn stolen guns and other items.Under pressure from the National Rifle Association, thestate deletes the gun records after 48 hours. The police arenot pleased that this action makes it more difficult for themto solve crimes and is an aide to criminals who pawn sto-len guns.

Here, we have Conservatives preventing law enforce-ment officials from going after criminals. Then, they lieabout law enforcement officals not enforcing the laws, whileConservatives make sure the laws are weak, nonexistent orconflicting. Can you think of something more devious orevil? And you still don’t think Conservatives are dan-gerous?

Another reason Conservatives are dangerous is their‘‘Miracle Theory.’’ Even if you can get them to admit thatthere is a problem with something, they will tell you it willnot be a problem in the future because a ‘‘Miracle’’ willhappen to solve the problem. We do not have to worry aboutoverpopulation, the environment (clean water, air, etc.), fi-nite resources (gas, oil, etc.), or anything else because Tech-nology, Companies, Scientists, God, or some miracle willsave us. We do not have to worry or do anything todayabout a future problem because the ‘‘Miracle’’ will save us.If they are wrong unthinkable actions will have to be taken

Page 162: Perfect Evil

Concluding Thoughts 163

to solve the problems, if it is not too late to reverse the di-saster.

Everyone was horrified when Timothy McVeighbombed the Oklahoma city federal building killing over 100people, including 19 children. McVeigh was mad at thegovernment because of the deaths that occurred at theBranch Davidians compound in Waco, Texas; the FBIshootout at Ruby Ridge, Idaho; and other things he believedthe government was responsible for. Who taught him tohate and kill? No one wants to accept any responsibilityfor what caused McVeigh to kill. Just execute McVeigh andwe have solved the problem. The military taught him to kill. The death penalty taught him that killing is an acceptablesolution if you have a problem and the government ap-proves of killing as a final solution. Conservative radio talkshow hosts taught him to hate the government. Teachingour children to hate and kill is evil—PERFECT EVIL. IfMcVeigh had grown old, while rotting in jail for his lifetime,he might have come to realize what he did was wrong. When the government killed McVeigh, he died believingthat what he did was justified and he had won his battleagainst the government. Death released him from decadesof being locked up in prison by a government he hated.

The most dangerous Conservative is one who pretendsnot to be a Conservative. They will say anything to getelected, but you can’t trust them. Once they are elected, they have to take care of the people who gave them largesums of money, and everyone else is left behind to suffer.

Conservatives use the word ‘‘Liberal’’ as a dirty word. They label anyone they do not like a ‘‘Liberal.’’ To me, aLiberal is a person who cares about people who have nomedical coverage, girls who get pregnant when they don’tplan to, shoddy schools and large class sizes, poor people, seniors, retirees with no benefits, overpopulation, the envi-ronment, gay people, children, Christians and non-Chris-tians, people who are different, etc. A Liberal is a good

Page 163: Perfect Evil

Perfect Evil164

person, not a bad person. Conservatives try to make Liber-als equal to a communists. But communists are not whatthey used to be, and a communist is not a Liberal. Do notallow Conservatives to trick you into believing that peoplewho care about people and important issues are bad people, and that the only thing you should care about is money.

Do you trust Conservatives, big business and the richto do what is best for the middle class, seniors and children,or do you trust Liberals to do what is right for everyone?

I often wonder why people do not get furious aboutwhat Conservatives try to do to this country. Why are theynot furious when so many important problems need realsolutions and all they get from Conservatives are lies andrhetoric. Is it because they just don’t know, they don’t care, they don’t want to know the truth, they don’t believe prob-lems can be solved, they don’t want to think for themselves,or they don’t read anymore?

Maybe what we need is a yearly National InformationConference (NIC). Various colleges could be given subjectsto report on. Each college could report on one or moresubjects. Who would pick the colleges and the subjects?Maybe an executive board of educators. Politicians mustnot be involved in any way. College students are the bestones to do the research and report their findings, becauseno one can threaten them with losing their jobs if they donot report their information exactly as the boss wants it tobe reported, and politicians usually have trouble controllingthem. However, some college students are heavily into poli-tics, and care should be taken to make sure no one reportsdistorted information. One night a year, all the TV stationsshould donate time to air the reports. People must know thetruth about things that affect their lives and the lives of theirchildren. I know this is a dream, but it is a good dream, like when people dreamed of a United Nations. Sometimesdreams come true.

Page 164: Perfect Evil

Concluding Thoughts 165

Conservatives always think they are absolutely rightand that they are perfect. They are perfect—PERFECTEVIL. They say things that sound good, but when you reallydig deep and analyze what they say, you can find the truth.Conservative beliefs are bad. They are evil, and they hurtpeople and this planet.

If you do not believe what I have written is the truth, that is fine with me. Go out and find the truth, get the facts,do some research, prove what I said is wrong. Just do notrely on what Conservatives tell you to believe.

I know I cannot change the minds of many people, butmaybe I can get a few people to think and ask questionsand not hate so much.

Maybe more women will stop voting for men and Con-servatives.

The end . . . maybe the beginning.
