Academic Leveling CoursesBridging the Gap in Business Education
Bridging the Gap in Business Education
Most graduate business programs do not require a business undergraduate degree. Moreover, many returning students seeking graduate degrees have been out of school for many years. These
students often lack the foundational business knowledge needed for continued graduate education.
Do your incoming graduate students have the business foundational knowledge needed to start the program?
Academic Leveling CoursesPeregrine’s Academic Leveling Courses (ALC) program includes 15 online courses that span the entire business curriculum and serve as a bridge between the undergraduate and graduate business program.
+ Each ALC includes a pre-test, 4-6 hours of instructional content, and a post-test.
+ The ALCs can be used collectively as a prerequisite standalone course or included within the first few existing MBA, MS, or MA courses.
The Accreditation RelationshipAcademic Leveling Courses (ALC) address several programmatic and
institutional accreditation requirements related to:
Assurance of Learning | Foundational Knowledge | Topical Coverage
Curriculum Design | Assessment | Quality | Accountability
Key Features…+ 4-6 hours of instructional content
that is interactive, engaging, and contemporary. Each course includes 4-8 sections and each section ends with review questions. The student must complete all sections before he or she is able to attempt the post-test.
+ The 20-question pre-test can be used to test out of the course. If a student passes the pre-test, the student moves on to the next course.
+ The 20-question post-test is used for assurance of learning. The school sets the minimum score threshold, (usually 80% or higher). If a student fails on the first post-test attempt, the student can go back and review the course material before a second and final attempt at the post-test.
+ The student receives a completion certificate with the post-test score that is submitted for academic accountability and assurance of learning.
Program Objectives
+ Create business program foundational knowledge.
+ Transition students from undergraduate to graduate level concepts.
+ Develop student accountability for learning.
+ Allow for more advanced subsequent instruction rather than time spent in the classroom reviewing the basics of each topic.
+ Provide a more cost-effective and time-sensitive approach to academic leveling.
+ Improve student retention in the graduate program.
Learning Outcomes+ Develop a thorough understanding of the foundational concepts, terms, and
topics associated with each of the core business subjects typically included within an undergraduate business program.
+ Introduce learning-related activities to the students.
+ Build knowledge-area confidence.
+ Provide ongoing learning resources (course instructional material is available to the student for up to 2 years).
+ Improve student retention rates in the graduate program.
+ Allow for more advanced instruction and learning with subsequent courses.
+ Use to create an undergraduate capstone course.

Course Structure and Reporting
Interactive Learning
Each course includes 4-8 sections. Each section includes instructional content related to 5-15 topics. At the end of each section, the student is presented with 3-5 review questions, 3 of which must be answered correctly in order to advance in the course.
Course Navigation and Features
+ Easy to use navigation shows what has been completed and what remains to be completed in each course and for the program.
+ Students can return to the course with unlimited access to the instructional material for up to 2 years.
20-question Pre-Test
The purpose of the pre-test is to give the student a sense of where they stand in terms of knowledge of the topics included within the course. The school can choose to use the pre-test as a stand-alone test-out option.
20-question Post-test
The school determines the minimum acceptable score for the course post-test. If the student fails to obtain that score on the first attempt, the student can review the course and take the post-test a second, and final, time. The objective is for the student to learn the material.
Student Completion Certificate
The front page of the completion certificate summarizes the results. The back page provides course-specific results.
Client Admin for Reports and Student Progress Tracking
24/7 access to Client Admin. School officials can track student progress and generate reports, both individual and summative.
The Individual Results Report is used to summarize student progress and completion
through the ALC program.
