• Turku is a city on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River in the region of Finland Proper.
• Turku has a long history as Finland's largest city and occasionally as the administrative center of the country.
• Located at the mouth of the Aura river in the southwestern corner of Finland, Turku covers an area of 245 square kilometres (95 sq mi) of land, spread over both banks of the river.
• The city centre is located close to the river mouth, on both sides of the river, though development has recently been expanding westward

Intelligent & Environmentally Friendly Turku
• The 2nd phase of strategic cooperation between the City of Turku and Siemens (Autumn 2012) :
Major result (1 October 2012) was a so called toolkit, to construct city districts based on the principles of sustainable development.
Other solutions:
- Intelligent electric grid (decreases power consumption).
- Renewable & local energy production.
- Shared use of cars.

Turku Master Plan 2035 - at least 85 % of the new & developing land will be located in the developed pedestrian, cycling & intensive public transportation zones.
A sufficient population is a prerequisite for a economical public transportation.
Vision: Urban structure where you can get along without a car or at least with one car per household
Public transport network will be based on a light rail system and buses, and there will be a comprehensive footpath and cycle network.
Services located on walking and cycling distance as well as public transportation zone (or even intensive public transportation zone).
Minor new residential areas in the car-dependent zone.
Solar panels widely used in Finland Eg: Eco-Viikki in Finland, has largest solar
energy system in Finland with 1400m^2 area of solar panel
Turku Science Park also installed solar panels at the outer walls of the buildings.
Sustainable Energy Development
Turku, Finland has strong commitment in sustainable development since 1990’s.
Continue to apply sustainable development and hope to increase energy efficiency by 9% in 2016.
Their success in sustainable development can be a good example for Malaysia to improve our current development.
