Who am I?

I used peaceful means to improve the living and working conditions for farm workers in the southwest region of the United States? I was a Mexican American.

César Chávez

I was an African-American minister who worked to gain equal rights for all people in the United States. I used peaceful ways to show that all people should be treated fairly. I wrote and presented a speech called, “I have a dream…” that explained why all people should have rights.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I believed that all people should be treated fairly. I was sitting on a public bus in Alabama and was asked to give up my seat to another person. I refused. I felt that I had the same right to sit in that seat as the other person. I worked very hard to change laws so that all people would have equal rights.

Rosa Parks

I was born in a log cabin in Kentucky. I taught myself to read. I was known as Honest Abe. I became the 16th President of the United States and helped free African-American slaves.

I was determined to change the rules and laws so that women would have the same equal rights as men. Because of my work, women were allowed to vote in government elections.

I was an African American who studied science and plants. I became a teacher. I developed hundreds of uses for sweet potatoes, soy beans, and peanuts.

I was the wife of a United States President. I was a leader for equal rights for all people. I volunteered for many organizations.

I discovered electricity a long time ago. Being careful, I stood in a thunderstorm holding a key tied to a kite. I proved that electricity was found in lightning. I loved reading books. I also started the first library and the first volunteer fire department in North America.

I was a powerful Indian leader when the English settlers arrived in the land now known as Jamestown. I ruled over many tribes. I was the father of Pocahontas.

I was born in Virginia and later became the first President of the United States of America. I established a republican (representative) form of government. I helped establish the basic principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for our new nation. I am known as the Father of our Country.

I was born in Virginia a long time ago. I helped write the Declaration of Independence. Later I was chosen as the third President of the United States.

I overcame my own disabilities and helped others who were deaf and/or blind gain their equal rights.

I became the first African-American baseball player in the major leagues. Because of my talents and beliefs in equal rights for all, I helped bring about new opportunities for other African Americans.

Jackie Robinson

I helped bring about positive changes in our country. I was a lawyer who defended people at a time when not all people were treated fairly, or had equal rights. Because of all my hard work, I became the first African-American Justice of the United States Supreme Court.

I was an Indian girl and the daughter of the powerful Indian leader, Powhatan. I helped the English settlers trade food and supplies with the Indians.
