The feast of Weeks was held in remembrance of the giving of the law, fifty days after the

departure from Egypt; and looked forward to the outpouring of the Ruwach HaQodesh,

fifty days after YaHuWSCHuA our Passover was sacrificed for us. On that day the apostles

presented the first-fruits of the Set apart assembly to YaHuWaH. To the institution of the

Feast of Pentekoste, is added a repetition of that law, by which they were required to

leave the gleanings of their fields. Those who are truly sensible of the mercy they

received from YaHuWaH will show mercy to the poor without grudging.

Acts 2:1-4

Now when the Day of the Festival of Weeks [50th day from First-fruits - Shabuoth) had

completely filled up, they were all with one passion in one place. Suddenly there came

from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the House/Hekal

where they were sitting. Divided tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them,

and one sat on each of them. They were all filled with the Ruwach HaQodesh, and were

compelled to speak with different tongues clearly, as the Ruwach gave them the ability to

speak.

Completely filled up: Shabuoth is the “feast of weeks”, the day after the counting of a

“week of weeks” (49 days) reaches its culmination, not at evening as the day begins, but

Page 4: Pentekoste

in the morning when it has fully arrived. It is the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and so

symbolizes a completion of the maturing process of a crop that is used for many of the

secondary sacrifices in the Temple. On this feast alone, leavened loaves are brought to

the Temple as an offering, so they are only waved before the altar, not burned on it. And

indeed we see a harvest on this day. (v. 41) the first fruits of the barley harvest, 49 days

earlier, the first day of counting (Lev. 23), was the day YaHuWSCHuA rose from the

dead. He was called the

"first fruits of those who rise from the dead."

I Cor. 15:23

But each in his own order: HaMaSHiYaCH the First Fruit, then those who are MaSHiYaCH,

at His coming.

With one passion: according to Strong, “a compound of two words meaning to ‘rush

along’ and ‘in unison’... As the instruments of a great concert under the direction of a

concert master”, all their gifts were working together to bring the entire Body to

readiness. This cannot take place if everyone’s opinion is given equal weight;

those with the “keys to the kingdom” had to rule according to the Torah.

When they were in such agreement, YHWH acted: Suddenly: yet not totally

unexpectedly. Most believe that this was the first Pentekoste, and that the assembly was

born on that day. Actually, this was not as unique as it would seem; the first Shabuoth

(of which Pentekoste is a loose Greek translation, meaning “50th”) was at Mt. Sinai.

Jewish tradition says it was on this day that YaHuWaH gave the Ten Commandments.

Scripture does not state this explicitly, but we know from contextual clues that it had to

be very close to this date.

The story is in

Exodus 19:14ff,

Moshah went down from the mountain to the people, and set apart the people; and they

washed their clothes. He said to the people, “Be ready by the third day. Do not approach

a woman.” It happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders

and lightening’s, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly

loud shofar; and all the people who were in the camp trembled. Moshah led the people

out of the camp to meet Aluahiym; and they stood at the base of the mountain. Mount

Choreb, all it, smoked, because YaHuWaH descended on it in fire; and its smoke

ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. When the

sound of the shofar grew louder and louder, Moshah spoke and Aluahiym answered him

by a Voice. YaHuWaH came down on Mount Choreb, to the top of the mountain.

YaHuWaH called Moshah to the top of the mountain, and Moshah went up. YaHuWaH said

to Moshah, “Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to YaHuWaH to look (at

Him), and many of them perish. Let the priests also, who come near to YaHuWaH, set

apart themselves, lest YaHuWaH break forth on them.” Moshah said to YaHuWaH, “The

people can’t come up to Mount Choreb, for you warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds around

Page 5: Pentekoste

the mountain, and set it apart.’” YaHuWaH said to him, “Go down and you shall bring

Aharon up with you, but don’t let the priests and the people break through to come up to

YaHuWaH, lest He break forth on them.” So Moshah went down to the people, and told

them.

Aluahiym: Aram., "the Memra of Aluahiym" At some point they actually came UNDER the

mountain (Deut. 4:11). This is probably the context for YaHuWSCHuA comment that if

one has trust he can tell "this mountain" to be removed. .... Yahuwchanan the

Immerser, who YaHuWSCHuA said stood in AliYahuw's office, was called the "Friend of

the Bridegroom" (one of the two witnesses). Moshah, here, is the friend of the Bride, who

leads her to her Husband. Moshah and AliYahuw were the two who spoke to

YaHuWSCHuA on another mountain, and appear to be the two witnesses of Revelation

11. The people were not the only ones shaking anymore! A smelting furnace separates

what is useful from the useless, burning away the dross and purifying the metal. Mt.

Sinai is probably not the traditional site in the Sinai Peninsula (a misnomer based on this

error), being too far from Midyan for Mosheh to have been pasturing his in-laws' sheep

there. Also, no artifacts of any sort from the YSCH'aELites' 40-year sojourn have been

found in Sinai. Rather, it is more likely Jabal al-Lawz, the highest mountain just east of

Midyan, which is along the northeastern coast of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia (which

agrees with Galatians 4:25). This mountain still has remains of pillars around it (see v.

12) and the top is blackened as by fire, but it is not a volcanic mountain. Extensive

archaeological research has not been permitted by the Saudi government. Aluahiym

responded as a witness through a voice: Aramaic, "from before Aluahiym he was

answered by a voice". A normal voice or breath grows weaker as it progresses. This

trumpet-like sound was, according to Ibriy tradition, the words of the Torah going out in

all 70 languages to the 70 nations besides YSCHRaEL, but only YSCHRaEL chose to

receive them. The descendants who would later be dispersed throughout the whole world

stood here within their forefathers, and it was for their sake that the nations were offered

the Torah as well (cf. Romans 11). In Acts 2, traditionally on the anniversary of this date,

the covenant was renewed again (as Abraham's covenant was renewed here with

adaptations for the size of the nation now) with words in many languages and tongues of

fire. (See 20:18) As soon as he ascended, YaHuWaH told him to descend again, because

He does not want us to have a perpetual Sabbath. Like the priests who served in the

Temple in shifts, we ascend to serve YaHuWaH, then are to descend to live out what we

have learned by serving YSCHRaEL. In order to look: we want to get up close to see

things, but this was not a tourist attraction. “Look” can also mean “perceive”, and this

was the very temptation haSatan began with on Hawwah. Though there were not even

overtly any priests as of yet, this is a foreshadowing of all the meticulous rituals the high

priest had to go through on the Day of Atonement before entering the holiest place

where the presence of YaHuWaH dwelt in a special way. The priests had a different

boundary than the rest of the people, but still had a boundary. They could go where no

one else in YSCHRaEL could, but still could not just “waltz” into the Holy of Holies, since

these were not high priests. Even Aharon’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, went in

presumptuously and pompously, and learned the hard way what comes of thinking we

have rights that YaHuWaH has not expressly granted. We each need to know our

responsibilities and our place, staying within the specific limits He has set for us.

Page 6: Pentekoste

And we will see many parallels here that lend credibility to this tradition. Like Moshe, the

disciples had just come down off a mountain to be together with all YSCHRaEL. The ram's

horn grew louder and louder, like the sound mentioned here. The mountain was set

ablaze. As they sat in the Temple, there was a rushing, roaring wind, like that ram’s

horn, and again there were tongues of flame. The Hertz Authorized Prayer Book says, in

a section on Shabuoth (p. 790) that the desert of Sinai (in northwestern Arabia)

belonged to no one nation exclusively. The shofar blast was heard, not by YSCHRaEL

alone, but by the inhabitants of all the earth. When YaHuWSCHuA said to wait until

they were endowed with power from above, they would have recognized that it would

most likely be on Shabuoth--only ten days away. House: Since there were 120 of them,

it was probably The House, i.e., an upper room at the Temple (reminiscent of

YeSHAYaHUW 6), where they continued to meet thereafter. (v. 46) It may have been the

Royal Stoa, which was visible from both the courtyards within and easily accessible from

outside the Temple complex. (It is the long red-roofed structure in the photo.) But they

had also been built together into one house of living stones as a dwelling place fit for

YHWH’s Spirit. Sitting: another allusion to Tehillim 133: “...how pleasant it is when

brothers sit together in unity.” They were able to see these tongues as if they were of

fire. Their ancestors at Sinai "saw no form, but only a voice". (Deut. 4:11) They saw the

voice! This one fire was distributed among them all, instead of on the mountain this time.

The first time, the people feared it; this time they were waiting for it. YaHuWSCHuA

prophesied this in a general sense in Mark 16:17. The tongues of flame and the gift of

tongues here were the fulfillment of that initial outpouring at Sinai. History repeated

itself. Ecclesiastes says, "That which took place before will take place again." By

tradition, the voice of YaHuWaH at Sinai divided itself into the 70 tongues then spoken on

earth, so that all of mankind might understand the Torah’s redemptive message, but only

YSCHRaEL responded. As YaHuWSCHuA ’s students were counting the days leading up to

Shabuoth, the liturgy included a blessing each day, then Tehillim 67 is read: "YHWH, be

merciful to us and bless us. Cause your face to shine upon us, that your way may be

known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. Let the peoples praise You, O YHWH;

let all the peoples praise You, and let the nations be glad, for You shall judge the people

righteously, and govern the nations on the earth...Then the earth shall yield her increase.

YaHuWaH, our own ALuaHiYM, shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear

Him." This was the goal being aimed at during the Counting of the Omer. To be eloquent:

Heb., what the Spirit gave them to say. These were not “tongues of angels”, but, as we

will see, real languages spoken by the hearers. (v. 6,8)

By tradition, the Voice of YaHuWaH at Sinai divided itself into the 70 tongues then

spoken on earth, so that all of mankind might understand the Torah’s redemptive

message, but only YSCHRaEL responded. As YaHuWSCHuA ’s students were counting

the days leading up to Shabuoth, the liturgy included a blessing each day,

Aluahiym will favor us, and bless us, and cause His Face to shine on us. (Selah) for

Aluahiym Who said, Let there be Light in the darkness, has made us believe that this

Light is the Brightness of His Splendor as seen in the Face of YaHuWSCHuA ha

Aluahiym. Let all the peoples praise you. Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for

You will judge the peoples with equity, and govern the nations on earth. (Selah). Let the

peoples praise You, Aluahiym. Let all the peoples praise you. The earth has yielded its

increase. Aluahiym, even our own Aluahiym, will bless us. Aluahiym will bless us. All the

ends of the earth shall fear Him.

me'ushar (blessedness)

The Blessedness of forgiveness

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scoffers,

But his delight is in YaHuWaH’s Torah.

Rhomias 4:6

Even as David also describeth the me'ushar (blessedness) of the man, unto whom ALuaHiYM imputeth TseDaQaH (righteousness) without works,

Human sinfulness is expressed in such a variety of ways that biblical authors in both

Hebrew and Greek found it necessary to employ a variety of words to express their understanding of sin. Both David in Tehillim 32 and Paul in his quotation of the Tehillim in

Romans 4 are good examples of this, and the expressions they used are full of

significance.

Delitzsch defined the Hebrew words for "lawless deeds" as "a breaking loose or tearing away from YaHuWaH"; "sins" as "deviation from that which is

well-pleasing to YaHuWaH," and "iniquity" as "a perversion, distortion, misdeed."

Forgiveness has as many facets as the sin it seeks to dispel, and Delitzsch describes it as "a lifting up and taking away… a covering so that it becomes invisible to YaHuWaH, the

Sacred One, and is as though it had never taken place."

Sin is the cause of our misery; but the true believer's transgressions of the Divine law are all forgiven, being covered with the Atonement? YaHuWSCHuA bare his sins,

therefore they are not imputed to him. The righteousness of YaHuWSCHuA being

reckoned to us, and we being made the righteousness of YaHuWaH in him, our iniquity is

not imputed, YaHuWaH having laid upon him the iniquity of us all, and made him a sin-offering for us. Not to impute sin, is YaHuWaH's act, for he is the Judge. It is YaHuWaH

that justifies.

Notice the character of him whose sins are pardoned; he is sincere, and seeks

Sanctification by the power of the Ruwach HaQodesh. He does not profess to repent, with an intention to indulge in sin, because the YaHuWaH is ready to forgive. He will not

abuse the doctrine of free grace. And to the man whose iniquity is forgiven, all

manner of blessings are promised.

Page 8: Pentekoste

Tehillim 89:15

Ashrei (Blessed) [is] the people that know the joyful (Feastal) sound: they shall walk, O YaHuWaH ( יהוה ), in the light of Thy countenance.

Righteousness, justice, love, and truth are the foundation of YaHuWaH's throne; they are

Central characteristics of the way YaHuWaH rules. They summarize his character. As

YaHuWaH's ambassadors, we should exhibit the same traits when we deal with people. Make sure your actions flow out of righteousness, justice, love, and faithfulness,

because any unfair, unloving, or dishonest action cannot come from YaHuWaH.

Of the love, grace, and mercy of YaHuWaH displayed in YaHuWSCHuA. of peace and pardon by his blood, of justification by his righteousness, of atonement by his sacrifice,

and of complete salvation by his obedience, sufferings, and death; this is the sound of

the Gospel and a joyful one it is to sensible sinners; and is so called in allusion either to

a shout made upon a victory gained, and such a sound is the Gospel; it declares

victory by YaHuWSCHuA over sin, haSatan, the world, and death, and every enemy; and that he has made his people more than conquerors over them; or to the jubilee trumpet,

which proclaimed liberty and a restoration of inheritances ,and so the Gospel

Proclaims liberty to the captives, freedom from the dominion of sin, and

Condemnation by it, from the tyranny of haSatan, and the bondage of the law; and gives an account of the inheritance the saints have in YaHuWSCHuA., and through his

death, to which they are regenerated, and for which they are made meet by the Ruwach

of YaHuWaH, and of which he is the seal and earnest: or to the silver trumpets, for the

use of the congregation of YSCHRaEL, and blown at their solemn feasts, and other times, and were all of a piece, the trumpet of the Gospel gives a certain sound, an even one,

a very musical one; there is no jar nor discord in it; is a soul charming alluring

sound, and very loud; it has reached, and will reach again, to the ends of the earth, it

is a blessing to hear it, but it is a greater to "know" it, not merely notionally, but spiritually and experimentally; so as not only to approve of it, and be delighted with

it, but so as to distinguish it from all other sounds; and by faith to receive it, and

appropriate the things it publishes to a man's own soul; and such must be "blessed",

or happy persons, for the reasons following in this verse, and enjoy the gracious

presence of YaHuWaH, have the manifestation of himself, the discoveries of his love, communion with him through YaHuWSCHuA ., and the comforts of the Ruwach

HaQodesh, and these continued; so that they shall walk in the sunshine of these things,

though notalways; for sometimes they walk in darkness, and see no light; but it is an

Unspeakable mercy and blessing to walk herein at any time, for ever so short a Season,

Tehillim 32:1

Blessed [is he whose] transgression [is] forgiven, [whose] sin [is] covered.

YaHuWaH wants to forgive sinners. Forgiveness has always been part of his loving

nature. He announced this to Moshe; he revealed it to David; he dramatically showed

it to the world through YaHuWSCHuA .. These verses convey several aspects of

YaHuWaH's forgiveness: He forgives disobedience, puts sin out of sight, and clears our record of guilt. Paul showed that we can have this joyous experience of forgiveness

through faith in YaHuWSCHuA..

Tehillim 32:2-5 Blessed [is] the man unto whom YaHuWaH imputeth not iniquity, and in whose

Ruwach [there is] no guile. When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my

roaring all the day long. For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me: my

Page 9: Pentekoste

moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto

thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto

YaHuWaH; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. (Selah).

What is confession?

To confess our sin is to agree with YaHuWaH, acknowledging that he is right to declare

what we have done as sinful and that we are wrong to desire or to do it. It means affirming our intention of forsaking that sin in order to follow YaHuWaH more faithfully.

Tehillim32:6-9

For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. Thou

[art] my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me

about with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way

which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, [or] as

the mule, [which] have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

Tehillim32:10-11 Many sorrows [shall be] to the wicked: but he that trusteth in YaHuWaH ( יהוה ), mercy

shall compass him about. Be glad in YaHuWaH, and rejoice, ye tzaddikim: and

shout for joy, all [ye that are] upright in heart.

Tehillim 51:1-6 Have mercy upon me, O ALuaHiYM, according to Thy loving-kindness: according

unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me

thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my

transgressions: and my sin [is] ever before me. Against Thee, Thee only, have I sinned, and done [this] evil in Thy sight: that Thou mightest be justified when Thou

speakest, [and] be clear when Thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in

sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, Thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and

in the hidden [part] Thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

David, being convinced of his sin, poured out his soul to YaHuWaH in prayer for mercy

and grace. Whither should backsliding children return, but to the YHWH their

YaHuWaH, who alone can heal them? he drew up, by Divine teaching, an account of the workings of his heart toward YaHuWaH. Those that truly repent of their sins, will not be

ashamed to own their repentance. Also, he instructs others what to do, and what to

say. David had not only done much, but suffered much in the cause of YHWH; yet he

flees to YHWH's infinite mercy, and depends upon that alone for pardon and peace.

He begs the pardon of sin. The blood of YaHuWSCHuA., sprinkled upon the conscience, blots out the transgression, and, having reconciled us to YHWH, reconciles us to

ourselves. The believer longs to have the whole debt of his sins blotted out, and every

stain cleansed; he would be thoroughly washed from all his sins; but the hypocrite

always has some secret reserve, and would have some favorite lust spared. David had such a deep sense of his sin, that he was continually thinking of it, with sorrow and

shame. His sin was committed against YHWH, whose truth we deny by willful sin;

with him we deal deceitfully. And the truly penitent will ever trace back the streams

of actual sin to the fountain of original depravity. He confesses his original corruption. This is that foolishness which is bound in the heart of a child, that

proneness to evil, and that backwardness to good, which is the burden of the

regenerate, and the ruin of the unregenerate. He is encouraged, in his repentance, to

hope that YHWH would graciously accept him. Thou desirest truth in the inward

part; to this YHWH looks, in a returning sinner. Where there is truth, YHWH will give wisdom. Those who sincerely endeavour to do their duty shall be taught their duty;

but they will expect good only from Divine grace overcoming their corrupt nature.

Page 10: Pentekoste

51:7-15

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than

snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; [that] the bones [which] Thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide Thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in

me a clean heart, O ALuaHiYM; and renew a right Ruwach within me. Cast me not

away from Thy presence; and take not Thy set apart Ruwach from me. Restore unto me

the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me [with Thy ] free Ruwach. [Then] will I teach transgressors Thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto Thee. Deliver me from

blood guiltiness, O ALuaHiYM , Elohei Teshuati (my salvation): [and] my tongue

shall sing aloud of Thy TseDaQaH. O YaHuWaH , open Thou my lips; and my mouth

shall shew forth Thy praise.

Purge me with hyssop, with the blood of YaHuWSCHuA applied to my soul by a lively

faith,

as the water of purification was sprinkled with a bunch of hyssop. The blood of

YaHuWSCHuA is called the blood of sprinkling, .If this blood of YaHuWSCHuA ., which cleanses from all sin, cleanse us from our sin, then we shall be clean indeed, . He asks

not to be comforted, till he is first cleansed; if sin, the bitter root of sorrow, be taken

away, he can pray in faith, Let me have a well-grounded peace, of thy creating, so that

the bones broken by convictions may rejoice, may be comforted. Hide thy face from my sins; blot out all mine iniquities out of thy book; blot them out, as a cloud is blotted

out and dispelled by the beams of the sun. And the believer desires renewal to

holiness as much as the joy of salvation. David now saw, more than ever, what an

unclean heart he had, and sadly laments it; but he sees it is not in his own power to amend it, and therefore begs YHWH would create in him a clean heart. When the

sinner feels this change is necessary, and reads the promise of YHWH to that

purpose, he begins to ask it. He knew he had by his sin grieved the Ruwach HaQodesh,

and provoked him to withdraw. This he dreads more than anything. He prays that Divine comforts may be restored to him. When we give ourselves cause to doubt our

interest in salvation, how can we expect the joy of it? This had made him weak; he

prays, I am ready to fall, either into sin or into despair, therefore uphold me with thy

Ruakh . Thy Ruwach is a free Ruwach, a free Agent himself, working freely. And the

more cheerful we are in our duty, the more constant we shall be to it. What is this but the liberty wherewith YaHuWSCHuA makes his people free, which is contrasted with the

yoke of bondage? . It is the Ruwach of adoption spoken to the heart. Those to whom

YaHuWaH is the YaHuWaH of salvation, he will deliver from guilt; for the salvation he is

the YaHuWaH of, is salvation from sin. We may therefore plead with him, YHWH, thou art

the YHWH of my salvation, therefore deliver me from the dominion of sin. And when

the lips are opened, what should they speak but the praises of YHWH for his

forgiving mercy?

Tehillim im51:16-19

For Thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give [it]: Thou delightest not in burnt

offering. The sacrifices of ALuaHiYM [are] a broken Ruwach: a broken and a contrite heart, O ALuaHiYM ( אלהים ), Thou wilt not despise. Do good in Thy good

pleasure unto Tzyon: build Thou the walls of Yerushalayim. Then shalt Thou be

pleased with the sacrifices of TseDaQaH, with Olah and whole Olah: then shall they

offer bullocks upon Thine altar.

Those who are thoroughly convinced of their misery and danger by sin, would spare

no cost to obtain the remission of it. But as they cannot make satisfaction for sin, so

YaHuWaH cannot take any satisfaction in them, otherwise than as expressing love and duty to him. The good work wrought in every true penitent, is a broken Ruwach, a

broken and a contrite heart, and sorrow for sin. It is a heart that is tender, and

Page 11: Pentekoste

pliable to YHWH's word. Oh that there were such a heart in every one of us! YHWH

is graciously pleased to accept this; it is instead of all burnt-offering and sacrifice.

The broken heart is acceptable to YHWH only through YaHuWSCHuA.; there is no true

repentance without faith in him. Men despise that which is broken, but YHWH will not. He will not overlook it, he will not refuse or reject it; though it makes YHWH no

satisfaction for the wrong done to him by sin. Those who have been in spiritual

troubles, know how to pity and pray for others afflicted in like manner. David was

afraid lest his sin should bring judgments upon the city and kingdom. No personal fears or troubles of conscience can make the soul, which has received grace, careless

about the interests of the church of YHWH. And let this be the continued joy of all the

redeemed, that they have redemption through the blood of YaHuWSCHuA ., the

forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace.
