PASTOR’S POTPOURRI – YOU WILL RENEW THE FACE OF THE EARTH

Today we celebrate Pentecost – the 50th day of Easter. It is the culmination of all we have been about since Ash Wednes-day…moving through Lent and the Easter Season to arrive here, which is the end of the Easter season but the beginning of life, again. It was on Pentecost that the Spirit came to those gathered in the upper room with Mary, the Mother of Jesus. It was then that the Church began… so we can say that Pente-cost is the birthday of the Church. We believe that Jesus promised to send the Spirit to teach us everything that Jesus was about, and all that he said. That has continued to the pre-sent. It is the Spirit who teaches. But it is also the Spirit who makes us holy, who forms the mind and heart of Jesus in each of us. St Paul reminds us what it is that the Spirit does in us…the Spirit gives us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generos-ity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. When we experi-ence these in our lives we know it is the Spirit who accom-plishes them in us. There is so much more that can be said about the Holy Spirit and as the theologian Yves Congar has written:

“The Spirit is without a face, and almost without a name. The Spirit is the wind who is not seen, but makes things move. The Spirit is known by the Spirit’s effects. The Spirit is the one who is given in order to produce everything that can be summarized as the community of the sons and daughters of God… Simply put…the Spirit is the agent of the fulfillment of God’s plan and work.”

(Congar, I BELIEVE IN THE SPIRIT) —Fr. Bob

Drive-up Communion:

You can come anytime between 10-11:30 a.m. on Sundays. All parishioners are to drive their vehicles to the designat-ed place of distribution of the Eucharist by vested clergy. Someone will be directing you where to go when you enter the parking lot and leave. Please wait in your car and pull up to the minister when it is your turn in front of the Church; you will then get out of your vehicle to receive Communion. Right before you receive the Eucharist, you will pull down your mask so you can receive, as the Eucharist is placed in your hand, you will then proceed to pull up your mask after you consume. Please be aware we will not be able to allow people to stop and talk with one another. We know this is hard, but it offers the opportunity to receive our Lord. Daily Mass: Limited public daily Mass will begin at St. Jude on Monday, May 18th 8:00 a.m. for only 10 people. For the next several weeks we will be in the first phase of resuming Mass that requires the most careful precautions. • Safely restoring access to participating in the Mass and receiving the Eucharist. • Due to ongoing health concerns, and in accordance with guidelines from the Archdiocese and Jefferson

County, attendance at Mass will be strictly limited and you must sign up to reserve a place in order to attend daily Mass.

• In order to attend daily Mass you must use Sign Up Genius. If you don’t have a computer please con-tact Tina in the office to sign you up. (We need your phone number if you don’t have email) We are on-ly allowed 10 people per Mass.

• You can only sign up for one Mass per household only in the month of May to ensure other people have a chance to attend.

• By signing up, you agree to wear a mask to protect yourself, others, and help create an environment where people feel safe. This is a necessary precaution required by the public health department. Non-compliance would jeopardize our ability to have public Mass, so no one over two years old without a mask or face covering will be allowed to attend. We will not have masks available for you. Please note clergy and ministers will not be wearing masks while in the sanctuary.

• Arrive 15 mins early and follow the directions by our sacristans when entering and leaving the Church.

• Refrain from unnecessarily touching any surfaces. • Respect social distancing (remain at least 6 feet away from other households). • Please do not stop and socialize when entering or leaving. • Bring and use hand sanitizer as needed. • Stay home if you are vulnerable to Covid-19, already sick or feeling sick

St. Jude’s RCIA program is a year round pro-gram. This model of for-mation provides a form of learning, centered on the relationship of the individu-al with the person of Jesus

Christ and with his body, the Church. It centers catechesis in the primary place where that relationship is fostered and cele-brated, in the community of faith that gathers Sunday by Sunday throughout the year. “Within the cycle of the year the Church unfolds the whole mystery of Christ, from his incarnation and birth until his ascension, the day of Pente-cost and the expectation of blessed hope and of the Lord’s return” This model also respects the journey of each per-son. It assumes that those who come seeking initiation will be welcomed whenever they arrive, no matter what time of the year that happens to be.

In this model of sacramental catechesis, the Church uses the language of journey, conversion, discipleship and relationship. Rather than a program of specific instruction, the RCIA suggests a fluid, gradual process of formation, the heart of which is the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ.
