My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, the Birthday of the Church. Fifty days after the Resurrection and ten days following the As-cension, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and our Blessed Lady present in the Upper Room. From there the Apos-tles went out to witness to Christ.

On the cover of today’s bulletin you will see the beautiful Pente-cost window of our church as well as our First Communion and Confirmation Classes. Please pray for our young people as they strive to witness to Christ in their lives.

I would like to take a moment to pray for all those in the Armed Service who have given their lives in the cause of freedom. Be sure to stop at our Shrine of Our Lady of Peace where the names of those from our parish who gave their lives in the Second World War, Korea and Vietnam are displayed.

Let us also pray for those currently serving in our military, particu-larly those from our parish mentioned outside of the Blessed Sac-rament Chapel. Please pray for Archbishop Broglio, Bishop Buckon and for all of the chaplains caring for the spiritual needs of those in the service.

May God’s blessings be yours this Pentecost.

Father Ireland

If your family would like an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus enthroned in your home, please call Father Ireland at the Parish Office (216.382.7601) to arrange for him to come to your home and lead this beautiful devotion.

Let us place ourselves under the watchful eye of Our Blessed Mother Mary, who will teach us to …

LET US PRAY FOR THE S ICK , SUFFERING & HOMEBOUND

Several weeks ago we announced that Brother Daniel is to be ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Richard Lennon on Saturday, August 15, the Feast of the Assumption. There will be a Special Ordination Mass at 10 o’clock Followed by a light reception in the Parish Family Center. The next day, Father Bowen will celebrate his first Mass here at Sacred Heart of Jesus, and again we will host a light reception after the Mass. Presently, no time has been established for this Mass. When we receive word, we will let you know.

In the meantime, I would like to hear from anyone in the Parish who would be willing to volunteer to serve on a committee to pre-pare the menu and/or the environment for one or both of these receptions. Please call me (216.382.7601). Thank you.

Father Ireland

Well, before we can answer that, we need to know what it takes to be a welcoming community. As a minimum, we offer these de-scriptive phrases:

A WELCOMING COMMUNITY IS ONE THAT …

Meets people’s needs Puts people at ease Makes people feel our genuine interest Makes people feel at home and comfortable Invites members to become friends Makes people feel needed Makes people want to come back Makes people feel loved Works diligently to keep the parishioners coming back Makes people feel important

Academy News

Dear Parishioners,

Last week’s Confirmation Mass was very nice. The students were well prepared to receive the Sacrament, and Bishop Roger Gries complimented them on their knowledge. His homily was most enlightening. The students looked like the fine, upstanding sol-diers of Christ they became. God Bless these young men and women.

We enjoyed our Spirit Week activities. The young students in Grades K to 3 loved the visit from Outback Ray. Many students were able to touch or pet some interesting exotic animals. Liz-ards, turtles, snakes, and a very soft chinchilla were part of the show.

Our Band Concert was once again very entertaining. The stu-dents performed two shows flawlessly. They are so talented. Our Band Director, Mr. Mandujano, is very instrumental to their suc-cess. Our last highlight was the annual Spring Talent Show. There were several acts that reminded me of the TV shows, the Voice, and American Idol. Some students would do well, I’m sure.

PARADE NEWS: It’s not too late to join many Academy stu-dents and their families in the South Euclid Memorial Day Parade. For more parade information contact Ms. Denise Smrdel at 216-849-5986. Show your Jaguar pride and march. See you there!

Field trips have filled the calendar, too. Holden Arboretum, St. Stephen Byzantine Church, Progressive Field (STEM Day), bowl-ing, and LakeFarm Park were trips taken this month. There was something for everyone to visit and enjoy.

Grade 8’s Recognition Day is this Friday the 29th. This is their last day in school...their last hurrah with the whole school. Their final class Mass is at 8:45 a.m. This is followed by a nostalgic power-point presentation, and a light breakfast with their parents. They have Graduation practice in the afternoon and are dismissed at at 2:30 with a school clap-out. They will be on field trips on Mon-day, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2. Graduation is Wednesday evening, June 3.

LAST DAYS OF SCHOOL: PreSchool, Grade K and Grade 8: Wednesday, June 3. Grades 1 to 7: Friday, June 5. There will be an 8:45 end of the year school Mass and early dismissal at 12 Noon.

Extended Care will be available on Friday from 12 Noon to 5:30 p.m. Parents must sign up with Mrs. Amy Ianni prior to June 5. Students should pack a brown bag lunch with drink and an extra snack if need be.

To our Eighth Grade Graduates: “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Mark 9:23 God Bless You, Mr. William DiBacco, Principal
