Meet “Penny” found screaming and limping and extremely scared on the road. People won't believe how the Adopt a Dog in Sri Lanka team found her. On their way to give their Negambo puppies, they met her on the road crying. They do have eagle eyes when it comes to puppies and wounded doggies. Even though they were full, they couldn't leave this baby girl. So the team decided what’s one more…and brought her to the vet.

They initially thought her leg was broken. Good news was that it was just dislocated and was fixable.

Now she got her vet treatment along a cast. Even with a limp she is walking around and within two more weeks she would be able to walk completely.

She has become quite vocal too and at the moment she is at her foster home.

A big thank you goes out to her two rescuers Janith Lakmal Peiris and Iraki Kodithuwakku for the won-derful job and her new fos-ter Himaja Guneratne

She really needs a home now and all she can do is love you with all her heart…make you smile with a wag of her tail and protect you at all cost. She really deserves a home after going through so much pain. If you can give this beauty a home she deserves please call Janith on 0771539924.

If there is anyone who is willing to contribute in any manner for the cause of sav-ing these voiceless angels please do so by contacting Adopt a Dog in Sri Lanka through Facebook.

When all roads ....From page 15

During the season he says he spends most of his time in the town but at other times of the year, travels to Hawaeliya, Bora-landa and Kandapola on his bicycle with the ice cream horn in his hands and the ice box tied to the back of his bike. To my surprise he says the ice-cream he sells is made by a reputed com-pany in Colombo and that he buys it as well as the cones from a supermarket. On an average day he makes a profit of around Rs.1000 but when it rains too hard and even the hard-core ice cream lovers ignore the lure of an ice cream he adopts an alternative strat-egy. He starts selling Bom-bai Motai. He makes the motai himself from marga-rine, sugar, coconut, milk powder and vinegar. But during the season due to the candy floss stalls the business is not as lucrative

as on normal, rainy days. If you have not made it to Nuwara Eliya yet there is time still to do so. From morning to late in the night, the smells of frying and mouthwatering spices waft up from hundreds of small wayside huts and all the sounds of the entire country - vendors’ cries begging you to get a tattoo on your arm, buy a bundle of plastic flowers, or taste a “daiya, daiya”, the roar of the seaplanes taking off across the Gregory’s Lake, the wail of the song “Why this Kolaveri di,” - punctu-ate the silence. Nuwara Eliya, once the creation of the British, as every April season proves, has now set-tled into a cosmopolitan landscape.
