INTERIM HEAD COACH WES GLON

Glon

29th year at Penn State

Wieslaw “Wes” Glon, in his 29th season with the Nittany Lions and 1st season as interim head coach, joined the Penn State fencing program as assistant coach in 1985 and has been an integral part of every success Penn State has achieved in his tenure. In 2011, Coach Glon was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach. Previously, Glon served two years as the assistant men’s coach at William & Mary, where he worked with the saber team. Prior to his tenure at William and Mary, he assisted with the Austrian National team in Vi-enna. In 2013, Wes was named interim head coach.

Coach Glon is one of the top fencing officials in the coun-try. He has directed numerous finals at the United States National Championships, Olympic Sports Festivals, and other international tournaments.

Glon has coached the U.S. Team for the Junior and Senior World Championships (1990-93), the Pan American Games (‘91) and the Olympic Games (‘92 and ‘96). In 1996 Glon was named Co-Coach of the Year by the U.S.F.C.A.

A native of Poland, Glon won his country’s highest fencing honors in saber six times between 1975-81. He won a bronze medal at the 1979 World University Games in Mexico City, finished fourth at Bucharest in 1977 and finished seventh in Bulgaria in 1975.

From 1977-81, Glon was an assistant professor of physical education at the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. He left Poland in 1981, arriving in the United States in 1983. Glon earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical education at the Academy of Sports in Warsaw. His academic interests include fencing, track and field, soccer, physical therapy and sports medicine.

Glon is married and has two daughters, one of whom fences for him at Penn State.

Abashidze

5th year at Penn State

George Abashidze is in his fifth year at Penn State and brings a long list of collegiate and international coaching ex-perience with him as he looks to help guide the Nittany Lions win another NCAA crown.

A former member of the USSR’s National Foil Team, Abashidze’s team competed in numerous international tourna-ments and he won his nation’s foil crown as an athlete. Before coming to the United States, George coached the Georgian National Team.

Abashidze came to the United States to coach at a fencing club in Portland, Ore., before taking an assistant coach po-sition at Ohio State. While in Columbus, Abashidze helped Ohio State’s foilists win five NCAA individual titles.

Among his athletes were Olympians Monica DeBruin and Hanne Thompson (a teammate of Penn State’s Doris Willette on the U.S. women’s foil team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics) whose team won the Silver Medal.

Abashidze and his wife Iya have three children (Guram, a senior at Penn State; Anna and Sophie). The Abashidze’s re-side in State College.

Vakhtang “Vaho” Iagorashvili will begin his fi rst year as an as-sistant coach and brings a distinguished background in fencing and modern pentathlon to Penn State. Iagorashvili graduated with a Master’s degree in physical education from the Georgia Institute of Physical Cultures and Sport in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia in 1985.

Iagorashvili has been a member of three diff erent Olympic teams for three nations: USSR, Georgia, and the United States. He was a Bronze Medalist in the 1988 Seoul Olympic games, three-time World and European Champion, Pan Am Games Champion (’03), Goodwill Games Champion (’90), three-time U.S. National Cham-pion (’03, ’99, ’97), three-time Soviet Union National Champion (‘90,’88, ’86) and has won multiple World Cups.

Th e newest Nittany Lion coach comes to Penn State with an ac-complished coaching history. Iagorashvili is the owner and coach of the Penta Fencing Club in Wilmington, Mass., and was previously the Head Epee Fencing Coach of Round Rock Fencing Club in Aus-tin, Texas. As a fencing coach, his students have won several medals in both individual men’s and women’s epee at the national level.

Iagorashvili is also an accomplished modern pentathlon athlete and coach. Th e Modern Pentathon consists of fencing, running, swimming, shooting, and riding. He was the coach of the U.S. Olympic Pentathlon Team in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, as well as the Director of Recruitment for the team from 2001-2003.

All-American 2012, 2013

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: As a junior, Glon proved to be a leader on the women’s saber team and had her most successful season yet. Her eighth place fi nish at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional qualifi ed her for a trip to the NCAA Championships. At the Champion-ships, Glon won 15 of her bouts to fi nish in sixth place and earn an All-American status. Th e junior’s regular season record was an out-standing 48-20. She had nine 3-0 performances that came against Sacred Heart, Vassar, Harvard, UNC, Temple (twice), UPenn, Notre Dame, and Princeton. Glon also placed fi rst in women’s saber at the 2012 Garret Open.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Glon had a strong Sophomore campaign, ending in a 9th place fi nish at the 2012 NCAA Cham-pionships. For her eff orts, she was named an Honorable Mention All-American and defeated 13 opponents at the championships. She went 27-22 during the regular season to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, where she placed 2nd to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships. Glon went 3-0 against Vassar, while going 2-1 against Harvard, Notre Dame, North Carolina(1/21), Temple(1/28), Penn, Duke, St. John’s, and Princeton. She also went 2-0 against North Carolina(1/28) and 1-0 against Sacred Heart and Vassar.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: Glon went 25-16 in her fresh-man campaign. Glon qualifi ed for the NCAA Championship and fi nished 17th after defeating 8 of her opponents. Glon went 3-0 in the regular season against Ohio State, Drew, UNC, Boston College, Brown.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Glon entered Penn State as a for-mer member of the 2010 Junior National Team. Th e year prior, she took home 3rd place as a cadet on the National Team.

All-American 2010, 2011

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: Willette had another outstanding year as a Nittany Lion, and earned his third All-American status by plac-ing second at the NCAA Championships. He also placed second at Regionals to qualify for the Championships. Willette fi nished the regular season with a 20-3 record. He had undefeated performances against NYU, Sacred Heart, UNC, Columbia, UPenn, Duke, and Notre Dame. He placed fi rst in Men’s Foil in this year’s Penn State Garret Open.

AS A RS SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Willette took the collegiate season off to pursue a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team. He just missed qualifying, as he was defeated 15-13 by Gerek Mein-hardt, a 2008 Olympian, in the semifi nals of the Division I National Championships. A gold medal would have qualifi ed Willette as the alternate athlete for the team.

AS A SOPHOMORE 2010-11: Early in the season Willette made history when he was named the Junior World Cup Points Winner for the 2009-2010 season, for the Junior men’s foil. He fi nished the season with a 26-3 regular season record and a third place fi nish at the NCAA Championships. For the second year in a row, Wil-lette earned All-American honors. Willette also won 3rd place in the Junior World Championship and was a member of the World Championship Team.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2009-10: Willette had an outstand-ing fi rst season with the Nittany Lions going 23-8. He clinched second at Nationals and earned an All-American title.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Willette is the younger brother of two-time NCAA champion Doris Willette. A 2008 Cadet Na-tional Team member in 2008, Willette claimed the Junior National Championship in the foil this past year. Willette fenced for the Mas-sialas Foundation club team in Northern California.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: Stephenson saw plenty of action as a junior while compiling a 15-46 record. She competed in the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional and placed nineteenth. Th e junior had one 3-0 performance that came against Wayne State, a 2-1 performance against UNC, and a 1-0 performance against Drew. She also placed 30th in the Garret Open, hosted by Penn State.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Stephenson took advantage of spot action this season to go 17-8 and qualify for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. At the regional, she placed 14th. Her season was highlighted by 3-0 performances against Drew, Haverford, and Air Force. She also went 2-1 against Sacred Heart and Vassar, as well as 1-0 against Ohio State.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: In her fi rst year of collegiate ac-tion for the Nittany Lions, Stephenson fi nished the regular season with a record 23-22.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Stephenson went to Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. and fenced at DC Fencer’s club under coach Janusz Smolenski and Robert Suchorski. She fi nished in the top 32 in Juniors at Summer Nation-als 2010.

AS A JUNIOR 2012-13: In her fi rst season as a Nittany Lion, Coutinho saw plenty of action and fi nished the regular season with a 15-35 record. She qualifi ed for the Mid-Altantic/South Regional and tied for 26th place at the event. Th e Brazil native had two 3-0 performances throughout the season that came against Drew and Haverford. She placed 39th at the Garret Open.

PERSONAL: Ana Coutinho comes to Penn State from Brazilia, Brazil. She transferred from the University of Brasilia-Brazil. She is currently studying toxicology

MEET THE NITTANY LIONS

AS A SOPHOMORE 2012-2013: Day did not see any dual action in her fi rst season as a Nittany Lion. She placed 43rd in the Garret Open.

PERSONAL: Nicole Day is from Perkasie, Pennsylvania. She participated in club fencing at Circle D’Escrime in Sellersville, Pa. Prior to coming to Penn State, Day participated in club fencing at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. Day is majoring in Biology.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Emily comes to Penn State from Wayne, N.J. Prior to becoming a Nittany Lion, Vassoler fenced at the Espada Training Center under Head Coaches Christian Rivera and Roger Cummings. She was named to the First team All State in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Finishing out her high school career with a fi rst place fi nish at the County Tournament, a second place fi n-ish at the District Tournament and a sixth place fi nish at the State Championships. Vassoler is looking to continue on the legacy of her sister,Caitlin, a former Nittany Lion fencer, who graduated in 2011.

AS A FRESHMAN 2012-13: Due to injury, O’Neill-Lyublinsky was only able to compete in the fi rst dual meet of the season. Th e freshman had a record of 10-4, and had two 3-0 performances against Sacred Heart and Vassar. She also had a 2-0 record against NYU. O’Neill-Lyublinsky placed fourth at her fi rst Garret Open.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Jessica O’Neill-Lyubinsky is from North Salem, New York. She participated in club fencing at the Fencing Academy of West Chester. O’Neill-Lyubinsky intends on majoring in psychology or pre-med.

HIGH SCHOOL/ PERSONAL: Jessie Radanovich previously fenced at FFA and LAIFC club teams under head coaches Vladamir Ostatmigrosh and Gago Dimirtion. Radanovich is currently a ki-nesiology major at Penn State. Radanovich chose Penn State for its great fencing program.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Sarah Waller was born in San Diego, Ca. and currently resides in McKinney, Texas. Waller previ-ously fenced at NCF under head coach Gary Copeland. Waller is currently a pre-med major at Penn State.

AS A JUNIOR 2012-13: McGill-Patterson saw plenty of action during her junior year, going 30-32 while qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. She placed 13th at the competition. Th e junior had three 3-0 performances that came against Sacred Heart, Vassar, and UNC.

AS A SOPHOMORE 2011-12: McGill-Patterson saw spot action this year, going 18-18 while qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. She placed 21st at the regional. McGill-Patterson went 3-0 against St. John’s and North Carolina, as well as 2-1 against Harvard and Duke. She also went 2-0 against Ohio State and 1-0 against North Carolina. McGill-Patterson placed 21st at the Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: In her fi rst year of collegiate ac-tion McGill-Peterson went 6-6.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: McGill-Patterson is a fresh-man from Brooklyn, N.Y. She is majoring in Human and Health Development.

AS A JUNIOR 2012-13: McKee did not see any action this year

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: McKee fi nished a strong Sophomore campaign with a record of 26-12 to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. At Regionals, she tied for 19th place with teammate Kane Gladnick. McKee went undefeated in eight matches, including six 3-0 performances. She went 3-0 against NYU, Sacred Heart, Haverford, Air Force, Brandeis, and Duke. She also went 2-0 against North Carolina and 1-0 against Temple. She went 2-1 against Vassar and Columbia. McKee placed 34th at the Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: In her fi rst year of collegiate ac-tion for the Nittany Lions, McKee went 30-21. McKee went 6-0 against NYU throughout the season and went undefeated against Sacred Heart, Drew and MIT.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: As Captain, McKee led Long Is-lands 1st Foil Team, to First Place at the New York Empire State Games in 2008. Th at same year she also took home First Place in the individual competition. Competing for Valley Stream South High School McKee went 26-1 earning herself All-County and All Long Island Honors. Academically, she earned herself membership to the National Honor Society as well as the Ralph Janssen Memo-rial Scholarship Award.

She tied for 18th place with teammate Kylei McGill-Patterson at the regional. Gladnick had fi ve 3-0 perfor-mances on the year. Th ey came against Sacred Heart, Princeton, North Carolina(twice), and Air Force. She also went 2-1 against Duke(1/28) and Brandeis. She went 2-0 against NYU, Haverford, and Duke(2/25) as well as 1-0 against Columbia. Gladnick placed 4th at Penn State’s Garret Open.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2012-13: Antokhina’s strong sopho-more year earned her a trip to the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional in which she placed third to qualify for the NCAA Championships. At the Championships she won six bout to place 22nd. She had an impressive regular season record of 40-22 that included seven 3-0 performances. Th ese came against Drew, UNC (twice), St. John’s, Duke, Northwestern, and Temple. She also fi nished 34th at the Gar-ret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2011-12: Antokhina fi nished a strong Fresh-man campaign with a record of 32-13. She fi nished in 3rd place at the 2012 NCAA Championships to be named an All-American. At the championships, she defeated 18 opponents to claim the number 2 seed in the medal round. She qualifi ed for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, where she placed 4th to earn a bid to the NCAA Champi-onships. Antokhina had four 3-0 performances on the year, coming against St. John’s, Harvard(1/21), North Carolina(1/21), and Duke. She also went 2-1 against NYU, Harvard(12/3), Columbia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn, and Princeton. Antokhina went 2-0 against Temple, and 1-0 against North Carolina(1/28). She placed 14th at the Garret Open.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Antokhina comes to Penn State from Moscow, Russia. She competed internationally on the cadet circuit. She ranked 19th in her age group in the world in 2010-11.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2012-13: In her fi rst season at Penn State, Fanning saw spot action and fi nished the season with a 6-11 record. Th e freshman had one 3-0 performance and one 2-1 performance that came against Vassar and Drew, respectively. Fanning placed 19th in the Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2012-13: Luminet had an outstanding freshman year, which earned her an All-American status. Th e France native placed second at the Regional to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships. BEFORE PENN STATE/ PERSONAL: Heather Nelson fenced at Th e United States Air Force Academy during her undergraduate time for three years. Nelson is now a graduate student at Penn State majoring in Aerospace Masters of Science.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: While serving as a team captain this year, Russo compiled an impressive 51-23 record. She placed sev-enth at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional to earn her fi rst trip to the NCAA Championships. She earned her fi rst All-American status at the Championships by winning 15 bouts and placing seventh. Th e redshirt junior had nine 3-0 performances that came against Sacred Heart, Vassar, Harvard (twice), Drew, UPenn, Haverford, Columbia, and St. John’s. She also fi nished in 14th place at this year’s Garret Open.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Russo went 28-20 during her Junior campaign to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. At the regional, she claimed 13th place. She had 3-0 performances against NYU, Temple(1/28), Penn, and North Carolina(1/28). She also went 2-1 against North Carolina(1/21), Brandeis, St. John’s, and Temple(2/25). She went 1-0 against Vassar. Russo placed 8th at the Garret Open, hosted by Penn State.

AS A RS SOPHOMORE 2010-11: Russo redshirted this season due to injury.

AS A FRESHMAN 2009-10: Russo posted a 14-4 record in her fi rst season of collegiate action. She also earned herself an alternate spot for the Mid Atlantic/ South Regionals.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Jessica Russo came to Penn State from Wayne, N.J., and Wayne Valley High School. Russo was a three-time fi rst team All-State selection and was featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd. She helped guide WVHS to two county titles and was the fi rst junior in WVHS history to win a state title.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 012-13: Rapp saw plenty of action dur-ing her sophomore year, compiling a 37-22 record while qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. She fi nished in 13th place at the competition. Th e sophomore had six 3-0 performances against Sacred Heart, Vassar, Drew, UPenn, Haverford, and Duke. She also placed seventh at the 2012 Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2011-12: Rapp went 18-6 in spot action throughout her Freshman year. She went 3-0 against Sacred Heart, Drew, and Brandeis. She also went 2-1 against Vassar and Harvard, as well as 2-0 against Haverford and Air Force. Rapp went 1-0 against Columbia. She placed 28th at the Garret Open, hosted by Penn State.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Rapp comes to Penn State from Portland, Oregon. Prior to coming to Penn State, she fenced under the guidance of Ed Korfanty at the Oregon Fencing Alliance. In 2008, she took home eighth place at the Junior Olympics in the Cadet division. Th at same year, she took second in the North Amer-ican Cup Y14 division. Competing in the 2009 Cadet World Cup, Rapp took home ninth. Most recently, Elizabeth was a member of the 2010 USFA Summer Nationals team.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: In his third season as a Nittany Lion, Frieman had a 12-7 record in the regular season. His season was highlighted by 3-0 performance against Drew and Haverford. He placed 19th at the Penn State Garret Open.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Freiman saw spot action this season, fi nishing with a 1-2 record. His season was highlighted by a 1-0 performance against Penn. He placed 17th at the Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: Freiman had a strong freshman campaign, going 7-4 on the season. His season was highlighted by a 3-0 performance against Vassar and a 2-1 win against Sacred Heart.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Freiman attended Th e Woodlands High School in Texas. He came to Penn State in hopes of creating an unstoppable epee team.

AS A JUNIOR 2012-2013: Culler did not see any dual action this season. He placed 25th at the Garret Open.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Culler fenced under Vaho Iago-rashvili for the Penta Fencing Club in Wilmington, Mass. He picked up third place in the Division II Men’s Epee competition at NACA as well as fi rst place in the Junior Men’s Epee competition at the North Atlantic Sectionals. Culler competed in the 2010 Summer Nationals Junior Men’s Epee tournament, ranking in the Top 32. He has served as captain of the NEUSFA Junior and Senior Team, in 2008 and 2009, respectively. AS A FRESHMAN IN 2011-12: Miller had a strong freshman campaign, going 21-30 and qualifying for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. At the regional, he placed 10th. His season included a pair of 3-0 performances against St. John’s and North Carolina(1/21), respectively. Miller went 2-1 against NYU, Vassar, Harvard, Prince-ton, and North Carolina(1/28). He placed 21st at the Garret Open, hosted by Penn State.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Miller comes to Penn State from Centennial, Colorado. Prior to becoming a Nittany Lion he fenced under the guidance of Mathiew Jordan at the South Denver Fencing Academy. He is a fi ve year defending Colorado Cup foil Champion and a two time Co Cup epee champion. He fi nished in the Top 32 at the Vigor Challenge Jr. World Cup in 2010.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Yasser Mahmoud was born in Saudi Arabia, and resides in Quincy, Massachusetts. Mahmoud previously attended the University of Massachusetts, and is an art major at Penn State.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Hunter Walker comes to Penn State from Lancaster, California. During his time in high school, Walker received numerous honors including the 2008 Pacifi c Coast Foil Champion, and 2009 Division II men’s epee summer national champion. Walker also earned Dean’s High Honors all four year of his high school career, and was his school’s valedictorian. He currently majors in Information Sciences and Technologies at Penn State.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Spencer Amann was a 2013 graduate of Mountain Range High School. Amann is currently an international relations major and hopes to work in the CIA after graduation. Amann chose Penn State because of the fencing team and the campus. Prior to Penn State, Amann was a fencer on the Northern Colorado Fencers team under head coach Gary Copeland.

At the regional, he placed 4th to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships. He defeated 8 oppo-nents at the championships to claim 18th place. Gomez-Tanamachi had 3-0 performances against Vassar, North Carolina, Penn(1/28), and Duke, respectively. He also had 2-1 performances against Sa-cred Heart, St. John’s(twice), Ohio State, Harvard, Air Force, Princeton, and Penn(2/25). Gomez-Tanamachi placed 17th at the Garret Open.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Gomez-Tanamachi comes to Penn State from Mexico City, D.F. Prior to coming to Penn State, David fenced under Head Coach Teresa Raygoza at the National Level in Mexico. David was a member of the National Olympic team in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. He earned himself individual gold medals each year with the exception of 2005, when his team won the gold. His older brother Daniel Gomez-Tanamachi fenced at Penn State.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: Delap placed 16th at the Penn State Garret Open. He did not see any dual action this year.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Delap saw spot action this sea-son, fi nishing with a 10-3 mark. His best performance of the season came in a 3-0 decision against Drew. He also went 2-0 against Vassar and Harvard. Delap also went 2-1 and 1-0 against Sacred Heart and NYU, respectively. He placed 27th at the Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: Delap went 23-6 in his fi rst sea-son of collegiate action. Th e freshman went undefeated against NYU, Drew, MIT, BC and Brown.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Delap went to Homewood High School and was coached by Yuanjing Wang and Hongyun Sun at the Birmingham Fencing Club. He claimed top three in the men’s foil at an NAC in Tucson and one in Columbus, Ohio.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: Goldstein had an impressive junior campaign, and qualifi ed for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional where he fi nished in eighth place. Th e junior ended the regular season with a 32-9 record. He had six undefeated duals against Sacred Heart, Vassar, UNC, Columbia, Harvard, and Duke. His performance at the St. John’s Invitational on January 26, 2013 led him to be named a CollegeFencing360.com Primetime Performer of the Week. Th e junior fi nished in eighth place at this year’s Penn State Garret Open.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Goldstein had a strong soph-omore year, fi nishing with a record of 28-18 to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. At the regional, he placed 3rd in the Foil. He was dominant in 3-0 performances against Columbia, Har-vard, North Carolina, and Johns Hopkins. He also went 2-1 against Notre Dame, Duke(twice), Brandeis, St. John’s, and Princeton. He won 2-0 against Haverford.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: In his fi rst year of collegiate action for the Nittany Lions, Goldstein went 17-7. Th e Freshman went 3-0 against Drew, UNC and Johns Hopkins.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Prior to coming to Penn State in 2010, Goldstein fenced for the Fencing Academy of Westchester under Head Coach Slava Grigoriev. He holds the Number 6 rank-ing in the 2010 Season Junior Ranking and the Number 19 in the 2010 Season Senior Ranking. He was a member of the USFA Cadet World Championship team in 2009 as well as 2008. Goldstein took home the Gold Medal as a member of the Senior Men’s Foil team in the 2010 Summer National Championships.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2012-13: Bravo had an outstanding fresh-man year campaign, and proved to be a leader on the undefeated men’s foil team. His 34-7 regular season record led him to the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional where he placed third in the men’s foil competition. His season was highlighted by six 3-0 performances that came against Vassar, UPenn, Wayne State, Johns Hopkins, St. John’s and Duke.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Fencing under Ed Eleterman, Di-Cioccio took second place in the U20 Men’s Foil Team Event in the 2009 National Championships. Th e next year in 2010, he took third in the 2010 Men’s Foil event in the U20 North American Cup and fi fth in the U20 Men’s Foil Junior Olympics. DiCioccio is a International Relations major.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Paul “Trip” Valigorsky comes to Penn State from DuBois, Pennsylvania. His sister, Lee Valigorsky, fenced for Penn State from 2007-2011. He previously fenced for Rockville Fencing Academy in Rockville, Maryland. Valigorsky cur-rently majors in Chemistry.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Nicolas Graziano was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. During his time at Th e Mas-ters School, Graziano fenced all four years and was a Independent School Fencing League champion every year. Graziano chose Penn State because he believes it is the best fencing school and it was his dream to attend Penn State.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2012-13: Bak served as the men’s team captain last year, and fenced his way to a third place fi nish at the NCAA Championships. His third place fi nish gained him his third All-America status of his career. Bak qualifi ed for Nationals with his fourth place fi nish at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. He fi nished the regular season with an impressive 21-8 record. Th e junior had three 3-0 performances against Harvard, Columbia, and Notre Dame. He fi nished in ninth place at the Garret Open.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2011-12: Bak fi nished a strong sopho-more campaign with a 30-17 record to qualify for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. At the regional, he placed 3rd to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Bak defeated 14 opponents at the cham-pionships to place 6th and claim his second All-American status. Bak had a trio of 3-0 performances, coming against Notre Dame, Drew, and Haverford, respectively. He also had 2-1 performances against Harvard, North Carolina(twice), Duke(twice), St. John’s, and Princeton. He went 2-0 against Brandeis. Bak placed 11th at the Garret Open, hosted by Penn State.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2010-11: In his fi rst year of collegiate ac-tion for the Nittany Lions, Bak went 37-17 in the regular season and took seventh at the NCAA Championships earning himself All-American honors.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Fencing for the Westbrook Foun-dation, in New York City, under Aki Spencer-El, Bak was a member of the 2008 USA World Championship team, placing ninth at World Championships. In addition, he earned himself the Junior National Championship title in 2010, a year after taking fi rst in the Junior World Cup. Adrian is younger brother of former Penn State Fencer Daniel. Both Baks, were able to compete on the 1st Senior Team in 2010 earning a National Championship. Currently Bak is also a member of the USA Senior National traveling squad.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2012-13: In his second season as a Nit-tany Lion, Brand placed 35th at the Garret Open. It was his only action of the season.

AS A FRESHMAN 2011-12: Brand placed 34th at the Garret Open in his only action of the season.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Brand is in his second year of collegiate action with the Nittany Lions. Th e sophomore from Needham, Mass. saw his only action last year at the Penn State Gar-ret Open and placed 34th.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Dhananjay Bhaskar was born in Newton, MA and now currently resides in Malvern, PA. Before Penn State, Bhaskar fenced for club team FASJ under head coach Dleksti Ivanov. Bhaskar is currently a mechanical engineering major at Penn State.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2012-13: Moran had a successful soph-omore season, and fi nished with a 18-5 record. He had four 3-0 performances against Sacred Heart, Vassar, Drew and Haverford. He placed 34th at the Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2011-12: Moran went 21-20 in his fi rst sea-son at Penn State. He went 3-0 against Vassar, Haverford, and Johns Hopkins. He also went 2-1 against Drew, Air Force, and Brandeis, as well as 2-0 against NYU. He qualifi ed for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, claiming 12th place. Moran placed 26th at the Garret Open.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Moran comes to Penn State from Beaverton, Ore. Prior to coming to Penn State, he fenced with the Oregon Fencing Alliance.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: David Akrami was born in Plano, Texas where he still currently resides. Akrami is currently an Eco-nomics major at Penn State. He chose Penn State for their excellent academics and fencing team. He enjoys that Penn State off ers a positive and tight knit atmosphere. Prior to Akrami attending Penn State, he was a member of the Lone Star Fencing team. During his time on the Lone Star Fencing team, he was a 2011 Division II National Champion, an Under 17 National fi nalist, a two-time Top 32 Division I fi nalist, Top 32 Finalist at Division I National Cham-pionships, and Top 16 Under 20 fi nalist.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Puchalski comes to Penn State from Lake Forest, Ill Prior to becoming a Nittany Lion he fenced under the guidance of Hristo Atrapolski at the Midwest Fencing Academy in Chicago. He is majoring in fi nance.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2012-13: Schneller saw limited action as a sophomore, and fi nished the season with a 7-2 record. He had two 3-0 performances against UNC and Columbia, and placed eighth in the Garret Open.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2011-12: Schneller fi nished his fi rst sea-son as a Nittany Lion with an 18-8 record. His freshman campaign included a trio of 3-0 performances, coming against Harvard, Princ-eton, and Duke. He also posted 2-1 performances against Sacred Heart, Johns Hopkins, and Air Force, as well as 1-0 performances against NYU and North Carolina. Schneller placed 14th at the Gar-ret Open.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Vincent Argenzio fenced at Zeta Fencing Studio before attending Penn State under head coach Zoran Tulum. He fi nished 13th at the Cadet European Circuit in 2011 and 11th at the Junior World Cup in 2013. Argenzio chose Penn State for the friendly atmosphere on campus and on the team.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2012-13: Streets had an extremely impres-sive freshman campaign, and proved to be one of the strongest members on the men’s saber team. His 43-19 regular season record qualifi ed him for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, where he fi n-ished in eighth place. Th e freshman had seven 3-0 performances throughout the season against NYU, Sacred Heart, Vassar, Columbia (twice), Notre Dame, and Wayne State. In February, he qualifi ed to be a member on the 2013 United States Junior World Champion-ship Team.
