importance ofdiscipline at a young age will help hima lot in the future. A disciplinedapproach to life is always rewarding.

We look at a few tips that could helpyou to teach your child how to bedisciplined.

1. Tell your child what you expect:Children learn by observing others.They do what others do. Am I right?Clearly explain the kind of behavioryou expect from your child by doing it

so. This will give them an opportunityto ask you questions when they seeothers behaving differently.

2. Start them at right age:Teach your child discipline at the rightage. Do not start too early or too late.The ideal age to start teaching a child,discipline, is between 4 and 6 years of

age.

3. Give them practical advice:Explain your child about what needs tobe done with correct reasons. Stick toyour stand, but clarify why.

For example, consider this: "Washyour legs after you come back from

school". That doesn't mean theyunderstand that dirty feet need to bewashed. They may come back afterrunning on the streets, and still do not

wash their dirty feet. Hence, say:"Wash your legs when they're dirty".Only then, they begin to apply whatthey learn in one situation, to another.

4. Develop routines:The best way to discipline your child isby creating routines that work for thewhole family. Establishing routines formeal time, bath time and bedtime

helps your child know what to expectand what's expected of him/her.

5. Wait for their perfection:If you try to enforce too muchdiscipline, the child may become toorebellious as the numerous restrictionsmight stress them out.

Appreciate the effort of your child andwait for their perfections, so that youimprovise your child's discipline.Remember, appreciation inspiresimprovement. Criticism doesn't makeit.

Raising a child is a tough job. But aschildren learn to control their own

behavior and actions, it gets easierand easier. So, take your initial effortstoday and the rest will be followed byyour loving ones!

Now, let me suggest you some

methods.You may take your daughter to the restroom, once in 2 hours, since you areliving in a hot place like Chennai. If thechild is around 1 1/2 years, you maytake the child, once in an hour.

Now, you should urge her to passurine. She would have started talkingby now, and would be able tocommunicate very well.

So, you may tell her that whenever shefeels like urinating, she needs to informyou and you may take her immediatelyto the rest room. Explain her that sinceshe is growing into a big girl, sheshould not pass urine or motionelsewhere, other than the rest room.

After 1 week, you may tell her to go tothe rest room, by herself, even without

informing you.

Once when you practice her to passurine, every two hours or so, she willget used to the rest room and passurine.

When it comes to motion, you mayagain ask her to inform you.

You may also explain her that whenshe starts going to school, she has toinform the teacher before using therest room.

During the night times, you need totake her to the restroom in the middleof the night, till her age of 10 years.You may ask her to pass urine, beforegoing to sleep.

Some friends tell me that I will not have

enough milk in the first 2 to 3 days. Whatshould I give to the baby till then?

Your newborn baby does not requireanything other than colostrum - the milkthat the breasts make in the first few daysafter delivery.

Do not let anyone squeeze the breastsfor milk. Simply let the baby be put to the

breast when hungry. Elderly relativessometimes feel that colostrum is harmfulto the newborn. Try to explain to themthat colostrum is essential for the babyand, though secreted in small amounts, isenough to meet all the needs of yourbaby. It is rich in Vitamins A, K and zinc. Itcontains large amounts of antibodies andother factors that protect the child againstlife-threatening infections.

It also has an immunoglobulin that coatsthe lining of the baby's immature intestineand prevents large protein moleculesfrom entering the newborn's bloodsystem. This reduces the risk of hergetting allergic diseases like asthma andeczema later in life.

What is the harm in giving water, honey,glucose water or artificial milk in the firstfew days?

Such feeds given to newborns before thefree ow of milk from the breasts arecalled, prelacteal feeds. These can beharmful for you as well as your baby andshould be avoided.

If prelacteal feeds are given, the babymay not suckle adequately at the breastas her stomach is already full.Consequently, she will not get colostrum.Such feeds may also be contaminated

and result in serious infections. Allergies

are more common in babies given animalmilk (including powder milk) in the firstmonths of life. If these feeds are giventhrough a bottle, the baby may not makethe required effort to suckle and emptythe breast. This either results inbreastfeeding failure or may causeengorgement and infection of the breasts.Some health workers give prelactealfeeds to otherwise normal babies who

happen to be rather big in size or aresmall. They fear that these babies mayget hypoglycemia (less sugar in blood).This fear is unjustified. Colostrum isenough for these babies.

Sometimes, a prelacteal feed is given asa 'test feed' to safeguard aspiration intothe lungs in a rare condition calledtracheoesophageal fistula. In this

condition, the trachea (the windpipe) isconnected to the oesophagus (the foodpipe).

These health workers do notrealise that colostrum is aphysiological secretion.Even if it is aspirated intothe lungs, it is not irritatingand gets readilyabsorbed. On theother hand, sugar,water and artificialmilk are quiteirritating if aspirated.

Being aware of thesefacts, if your doctor stillfeels that the baby needs

any feed other thancolostrum, he mayprescribe it accordingly asan exception.

Method of painting:

Pick up a pot and remove any dust from it using a soft cloth or a

brush.

If you have earthern pots, give them a coating of color that you

think would match with the color of your walls.

Let this base color dry. Now you can paint a variety of patterns on top to decorate your pots.

Note:If your pots are cemented and polished, you can directly make patterns on them. It's quite

interesting and at the same time colorful and attractive too.

Receipe of the Month

Murungai Keerai Ragi Adai...PriyagauthamH @ Priya

Ingredients:Cleaned murungai Keerai - 1 cupOnion - 1 (finely chopped)Red chillies - 3Salt - To tasteCurry leavesHingUrad dhal - 2 tspChanna dhal - 2 tspOil - 1 tspGrated coconut - 1 tbsp

For Batter:Ragi our - 1 cupRice our - 1/2 cupSaltWater

Mix together the ragi our, rice our and salt. Add water and mix until you get a dosa batterconsistency. It will thicken with time. Will need to add more water just before making Adaiagain.

For seasoning: Heat kadai, Add oil. Add the urad and channa dhal saute until light

brown. Add the curry leaves, red chillies and hing. Add the onion and cook until translucent. Add the keerai and salt and cook until Keerai is

half done. Finally add the grated coconut and mix.

Method:

Add this seasoning to the prepared ragi, rice ourbatter.

Mix well.

Check and adjust salt.

If the batter has thickened add some water to get

dose batter consistency.

Make adai's and serve with kaara chutney.

Note:

The above can be done slightly differently. Instead of making a batter, you can add prepared

seasoning to ragi/ rice our and sprinkle water and mix like to a pakora our consistency and

deep fry in oil too. Or

Mix the whole thing in a vada batter consistency and shallow fry like vadas too.

Ingredients:

Any Keerai (Except murungai) - 1

Onion - 5

Tomato - 5

Garlic - 6 - 7 pieces

Red chilli - 10 - 15 (depends on taste)

Green chilli - 2 or 3

Toor dal - 150 gms

Turmeric powder - 1 pinch

Asafoetida - 1 pinch

Tamarind - One small ball

Vadagam - Little

Salt - As required

Method:

Take cooker and put the toor dal in it.

Wash it thoroughly and add the required amout of water, a pinch of

turmeric and asafoetida.

Now add the Keerai, which is also washed & cut into pieces.

Cut the onions and tomato into slices and add it too.

Put the garlic pieces and both the chillies.

Now keep the cooker in stove till 3 whistles.

After 3 whistles, remove the cooker from the stove and open it after the

pressure is completely reduced.

Now transfer the content to the keerai chatti, add required amout of salt

and tamarind and mash it.

You can splitter the vadagam and add to it finally for enriching the taste. Now the delicious Keerai Paruppu Kuzhambu is ready.

Ingredients:

Palak - Small cut pieces (2 cup)

Egg - 3 nos.

Onion - 1 no.

Green chilly - 3 nos.

Chilly powder - tsp

Garlic - 4 nos. ( Cut to small pieces)

Oil & Salt - As required

Method:

In a non stick pan, pour 2 tsp of oil and wait tll oil gets heated up.

Add cut onions, green chilli and fry till it get light brown colour.

Mix garlic and teaspoon of chilly powder and then mix Palak fry till it gets fried.

Lastly add egg 3 nos and fry 5 minutes to get ready of Palak Egg Bhurgi.

Mudakkathan Keerai Dosa...Gayathri Pattabi

Ingredients:

Mudakathankeerai Grinded - 1 cup

Ragi our - 2 cup

Salt - to taste

Method:

Clean and Wash Mudakathan

leaves.

Grind it as paste with less water.

If the grinded paste is 1 cup, then

take 2 cup of ragi our.

Add required amount of water as

well salt and make it like dosa

batter. Now add keerai paste in ragi batter.Mix it well. Keep it aside for 8 hrs. After it is fermented, you can prepare dosas.

It is very healthy for older people.

research in spite of education to get job. Integration among people instead of various

religions, language, states caste. Men and women have equal rights. No bomb blast and orphanages, old people

houses. Proper planning for meeting future demands

(food, shelter, agriculture, energy) andpollution free environment.

Queues free public places and temples. River should be nationalized. Social responsibility in each and every

individual and scam free country.

Talents should be recognized withoutpartiality. Urban and rural areas with same facility. Village agricultural land should not be real

estates. War less Kashmir and borders. Extreme weather and disaster should

prevented by using eco friendly products.Youth energy should be properlychannelized.

Zipping up finally India should be a superpower in research and humanism after adecade.

As back to my country which gives me a lotthinks. I promise her I will be loyal and a true

citizen to her. I will do possible things to her inback to develop a dynamic nation.

First of all I am really very proud to be an Indian.My mother land INDIA. She's really awesome.

She consists of more and more naturalresources with her. India is really proud of herkids who vary in their languages, culture,clothing, etc. though we all vary in these thingwe are one in the thought that we are kids of our

mother India. And this year it has been 67, sinceshe had got her freedom. Our mother land is notan exception from being slaved by the British.Lots and lots of struggles for saving our motherland. Blood rolled off on the cheeks of ourfreedom fighters instead of tears. Finally today

we all are enjoying our freedom. But are youvery sure that we all are completely happy? Yes,the reply is exactly 'NO'. When we search for thereason, the answer is our political leaders. Whydon't you old leaders give a chance for theyouths to take the power? Do you think that wedon't have enough knowledge? But I think thatthe young guys don't have the knowledge tocheat people also. They don't know to corrupt.They would use the money only for thegoodness of people. There would be no fights in

Kashmir. Our own siblings in Srilanka wouldhave not been killed unnecessarily, each citizenwould receive their needs without Aadhar card,unemployment would be ruined, poverty in thecountry will be reduced, etc. You old politicalleaders see the holes in the dresses of the poorchild as only as a hole. But we youngsters canshow the shining stars to them through thathole. There is no doubt in making India 'ADEVELOPED COUNTRY' if the youngsters takethe power. So, present political leaders wish the

present generation and let them to lead thecountry.
