This morning Year 10 Marine studies carried out a rubbish survey on the northern half of Avalon

Beach. Today was a fairly 'clean' day with only one bucketful of plastics larger than one centimetre

being found. We will then carry out an analysis in future lessons of the types of plastics being

found.

Mr Seymour’s Weekly Science Fact!

If gravity on Earth was 3 times stronger than it is

(providing 3 g’s force), blood would only rise

about 40 cm above the heart and so would not

reach the brain in a standing person. The

average person will black out if exposed to a 4 g

acceleration (4 times gravity) for more than a

few seconds.

Fighter pilots and astronauts can be trained to

withstand up to 7.5 g’s when wearing special

“flying suits” and even 9 g’s for sub second

manoeuvres. Severe brain injury will occur in

humans if the head is exposed to more than 100

g’s, however the woodpecker is able to

withstand up to 1500 g’s without effect. These

are the accelerations created as the

woodpecker pecks at tree trunks at rates of up

to 20 pecks per second.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK

Kai Mitchell Year 7 Visual

Arts has creatively distorted

a portrait drawing with many

cubist references.

The drawing will inspire his

upcoming ceramics work.

Congratulations to our highest achieving students on the Year 7 Word Flyers online literacy

program. This program, which has been made accessible to all Year 7 students, is designed to

build foundational literacy skills to assist students to become confident writers and

communicators. The following students are ranked first in their class for their overall scores so far

this year. Well done!

YEAR 11 SKI CAMP - JINDABYNE SPORT AND REC

On Sunday 30th July, 99 Year 11 students and 7 staff headed off to the Jindabyne Sport and Rec

camp.

The Year 11 Ski camp has been a long standing tradition at BHS and all students and staff were

very excited to get down to the snow.

The Sport and Rec program operates out of Perisher - Blue Cow which gives the students plenty

of access to the Blue Cow and Guthega areas of the resort. The beginner ski and boarders

enjoyed runs such Pleasant Valley and Terminal and hopefully progressed into the Brumby TBar.

Our more experienced students loved Zali's, Rollercoaster and if they ventured over to Guthega

runs like Bloody Mary and Karl's were definitely lots of fun.

At night the Sport and Rec staff organised night activities such as Games night, Trivia, Movie night

and Jindy Markets.

The camp was a great success with a combination of perfect conditions and good luck. A huge

thanks to the staff who help me run the camp. Mrs McEwan, Mrs Saunders, Mrs Yakich, Miss

Attard, Mr Pluck and Mr Zonca.
