The Peninsula Performing Arts Academy provides a variety of choices of performance arts to all ages! Our Academy focuses on three mediums: Theatre, Dance & Music.

6 months - 4 yearsFor the youngest participants we have our “Exploring Movement” classes. These classes are designed to engage parents & children in a positive, fun & active experience. If you & your child are interested in music, be sure to check-out our “Music - Exploring Together!” course located with the Music Program.

3 years - 6 yearsAt age 3, children are eligible to join our progression based educational arts programs. Students ages 3-6 can work on their balance & coordination with our Level I dance classes. These courses are traditionally some of our most popular courses and they focus on the introduction to various dance mediums, including: creative movement, ballet, tap, and hip-hop.

6 years - 14 yearsStudents can further develop their dance technique in ballet, tap, or hip-hop. Through our Theater program, students can participate in a performing piece that integrates vocal music, dance and theatre arts. The “American Musical Showcase” class is an interactive and popular program that performs well-known Broadway shows quarterly. Students enrolled in most Level I dance programs or above will participate alongside the theater students to make the show truly the culminating center of the performing arts academy. Children may repeat our classes as new concepts & materials will continue to be introduced.

At age 6, students can enroll for private guitar, piano, violin, or vocal lessons held weekly at Peninsula at an incredible value.

14 years & upFor our students who are 14 & up, we offer a variety of courses in every category. Classes include: Guitar, Ballet, Tap and Theatre. In addition the center offers a wide variety of adult fitness courses and courses designed for both parent & child to attend.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

The business of volunteering, that is. Ever wonder what it takes to keep Peninsula Park Rose Garden looking beautiful all summer for the local community, not to mention being a destination site for national and international visitors?

Friends of Peninsula Park Rose Garden currently support more than two dozen volunteers who donate hundreds of hours during peak season, which runs from June through September.

New volunteers are always welcome. No special expertise with roses is required as garden veterans are always on hand to provide guidance and easy-to-follow instructions. That means you’ll have the benefit of working with a friendly team at one of the city’s loveliest public gardens, all while keeping the garden beautiful.

From the first week in June until the end of September, volunteers help with deadheading and weeding Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon. All you need are comfortable garden gloves. Pruners are available, but you are welcome to bring you own.

On Fridays, veteran Master Gardeners are on site to work with volunteers and host an informal break at 10 a.m. This gives volunteers the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about roses from the park’s horticultural staff and Friends of Peninsula Park Rose Garden. One-hour orientation sessions are scheduled for June 4 and 6 at 9:00 a.m. If you can’t attend either session, or you want more details about volunteering at the garden, please email volunteer coordinator, Carolyn Bailey, at [email protected]

Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to participate in programs offered citywide.

How it Works1. Choose the activity you would like to

participate in, and then the PP&R site where the activity is being offered.

2. Register for the activity. You can do this in person at a PP&R site, or on-line at www.PortlandParks.org. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommodations in order to participate in the activity (online, check the box.)

3. Once registered, please contact Inclusion Services at 503-823-4328. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member. At the end of the phone intake, it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide on-site support. Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs.

Important DetailsA general program may be adapted using

auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed, and can be flexible and creative. Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. Personal care is provided for activities in the pre-school and youth category, up through age 12.

If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503-823-4328 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (Monday-Friday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.
