PEND OREILLE COUNTY Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council Meeting Minutes May 6, 2019 @ 105 South Garden Avenue Newport, WA 99156 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by David Odell at 12:01 p.m. ROLL CALL AND INTRODUCTIONS: Board Members: Mary Sterling Judy Malby David Odell Support: Annabelle Payne, Kelly Alliger, Jennifer Stout, Rob Thompson Public: Nicole Luppens & Brian Nichols (Spokane County), Linda White, Renee Masters, Denise Masters, Steve Kiss Excused: Unexcused: Review of Minutes from February 2019: Minutes were reviewed, Judy motioned approved, and Mary seconded. OLD BUSINESS: Outreach to North schools – decision to table due to unknowns with County program and staffing limitations. Laurie Jones and Keri Leslie from Newport School District had shared in a previous meeting that they are willing to give DD information to SPED school staff, principals, and Dr. Smith o Laurie had emailed Kelly that she wouldn’t be able to attend but would like the minutes and any information we would like her to forward to Dr. Smith and SPED Departments. Parent/Caregiver Respite – how to help families Spokane County has parent-to-parent and a parent coalition – a parent coordinator would be needed. This position would be from the community versus Counseling Services Program Update: o Pend Oreille terminated the State contract o Brian Nichols and Nicole Luppens shared that Spokane County has agreed to assume the State contract to provide services in Pend Oreille County. Brian is the Developmental Disabilities Program Manager for Spokane. They will subcontract with providers, this may include an RFQ for Community Inclusion services Many of Spokane providers are CARF accredited. This may allow services to Pend Oreille residents who have historically not been served by Counseling Services because these individuals were involved with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DCR). DVR requires CARF accreditation, which has been cost prohibitive for Counseling Services. Transition students

Transition students Brian shared the possibility of shared dollars for Community Info Ed and Training. Spokane’s service target start date anticipated to be July 1, 2019 Brian shared he is willing to present to County Commissioners, if there is an interest.

REPORT OUTS: POCCS

o Two individuals receiving Individual Employment (IE) were also employed with Counseling Services. One identified as likely needing minimal on-site job coaching, and can continue employment throughout the transition.

Linda White @ Ability Employment Services has been assigned to this individual. She provided information about individual supportive employment services.

DDAo Rob expressed thoughts of the potential opportunities to grow with the Spokane County contract.

NEW BUSINESS: Local events to possibly participate in

o Rodeo Parade and Carnival Kelly will get David the contact information to submit an application

o Health and Wellness Expo at Cutter Theater – June 1, 2019o NSD Wellness Fair – Augusto Contact POC Health Coalition about upcoming fairs.o Rob at DDA suggested hosting a resource fair – Linda could get a list of who participated in Stevens

County.

FUTURE OF ADVISORY COUNCIL BOARD: Annabelle and Brian Nichols will work on details to assist with future discussions The Spokane County DD Board meets monthly

NEXT MEETING: August 5, 2019 at the Counseling Building from 12 – 1:30 p.m.
