2 A Word from Our PastorDear FBC Pelham Faith Family, July is a time for us to remember and celebrate our free-dom. On Sunday, July 1 we will have a patriotic service at 10:00 AM. On that day there will be only this one combined worship service and no Sunday School classes will meet that morning. Also note that child care will be provided for children in nursery up to 5K. In this service we will thank God for the freedom we have in this country and we will worship God for the ultimate and complete freedom we have in Christ! You will not want to miss this worship experience. Also, we have designated the month of July as “Disas-ter Relief Month” here at FBC Pelham. This is the first year we have done this at FBCP and I believe this will be an ongoing ministry. Throughout the month we will be discussing packing a tote full of supplies for disaster relief families. These totes, valued at $54, will include items such as tarps, rope, nails, hammer, gloves, duct tape, a Bible, a letter of encouragement and other supplies. These totes will be prepared, stored, and ready to be dispersed at a moment’s notice whenever the next disaster strikes within a 100-mile radius of Pelham. It is never a ques-tion of Will there be another disaster that strikes but when it strikes will we be prepared to act quickly and be the hands and feet of Christ offering supplies in the name of Jesus? Barry Winn, a faithful brother in Christ here at FBC Pelham, will be our project manager for this campaign. I look forward to sharing more with you about this opportunity throughout the month of July. We are calling ALL men of the church to Man-Up! Our next Man-Up event will be Sunday, July 8 here at FBC Pelham. We will have a fish fry at 5:00 PM followed by a worship service at 6:00 PM. We have invited Dale Forehand to come be our featured speaker. Please sign up with Donnie Sisk so we can be adequately prepared. Finally, I want to ask every married couple to save the date for our upcoming Mar-riage Conference here at the church August 17-18. The cost is only $50/couple. Dale and Jena Forehand of “Stained Glass Ministries” will be leading this dynamic and beneficial conference for husbands and wives on Friday evening and Saturday until 3:00 PM. Regardless of whether you have been married 50 years or 5 months, this 2-day conference will be a blessing to you and your spouse. Call the church office today to make your reservation. Be praying for our July Mission teams – our students are participating in UNITE (July 11-14), we will have a team going to Uganda (July 16-27), and a mission team traveling to Asia (July 22-August 5). Praise God for his children answering the call to be on mission with Christ. We can’t do everything but we can do something. We can’t go everywhere but we can go somewhere. We can’t help everybody but we can help somebody. Making Disciples For Global Impact. Your Pastor and Friend,Daven

Let’s Get Real

Worship Ministry I am very thankful for your continued prayers, as we have been earnestly praying for the Lord to send us lead-ers to fill open positions within the Worship Ministry! Today, I’m thankful to report that the Lord has heard our prayers in a mighty way! I’m excited to announce and welcome Mrs. Jerra Dooley to First Baptist Pelham as our new pianist! Jerra brings with her an extensive resume of over 30 years of leadership & experience in the Worship Ministry and other areas of the local church. She is a gifted musician, communicator, and leader! When you meet her you will experience her contagious

spirit and love for the local church! Please take the time to welcome Jerra and her husband Randy to FBC Pelham!! I am also excited to an-nounce that we have created a new part-time position to give leadership to our Media Minis-try. We welcome Isaiah Smith as our new Director of Media Ministries. Isaiah grew up here at FBCP and has a powerful testimony of redemption & restoration! He has a living re-lationship with Jesus Christ and wants to serve the local church. He is a phenomenal musician & tech guru and has the “chops” to lead our Media Ministry. Please take the time to welcome Isaiah, his wife Sarah and their

son Cohen to FBC Pelham!! Finally, as Pastor Daven announced back in June, we will begin a new mid-week worship service on Wednesday, August 15. I am currently look-ing for new musicians to join our team. Maybe you’re sit-ting in our fellowship and you play guitar, drums, or keys, and have always wanted to a part of our worship band! Now is the time to join!!! Please contact me here in the Worship office at [email protected] if you’re interested in learning more! Cathy and I love you!! We look forward to seeing you in worship! VBS was a success because we all came together once again to make it great! We had around 350 children on campus each day, along with 80 adults and 80 youth helping to bring God’s Word. We had 24 first time decisions for Christ, and raised over $6,000 to build another well through Neverthirst. This will be the third well that we’ve been able to provide for people desperately needing clean water.

Women’s Ministry Our church is hosting the Beth Moore Living Proof Simulcast, a global Bible-teaching event, on Saturday, September 15 from 9:30 AM until 4:15 PM. The worship will be led by Travis Cottrell and the Living Proof Live praise team. Cost is $20 and includes lunch. You may sign up at the Welcome Desk or in the church office.

We are looking ahead to our July What About Wednesday events, and to Promotion Sunday. We have need of just a few more Sunday school teachers for our precious children birth-5th grade. Come join the fun in the Children’s Wing now, before it’s too late!

Uganda Trip Needs We have a group going on a mission trip to Uganda in July. They are collecting items for this trip. They need kid sized flip flops, pens/pencils and non-prescription read-ing glasses. If you would like to contribute, please bring your items and place them in the marked collection boxes throughout the build-ing. The deadline to get all these items col-lected is July 8.

Fewer hugs, warmth and parental support leads to lower self-esteem, hostility and aggression and feeling alone and alienated (Child Trends at www.childtrends.org/indicators/parental-warmth-and-affection). Oftentimes parents have difficulty hugging their children because they were not hugged as a child. The good news is that this is a learned behavior and any

How often do you hug your child? Studies have shown that hugging your child often has many posi-tive results for children. In children, parental hugs and a relationship with the parent that is warm and affectionate are linked to higher self-esteem, fewer behavioral problems and better com-munication. Then they also brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God (Luke 18:15-16). Linda Story
