Lesson Points

• In Malay, prepositions are used to literally describe the places where things are placed . They are also used to show directions.

• For example, the same prepositions can be used to describe where certain things are or how they are placed.

• Prefixes di and ke are often used to tell where the things are. di means ‘at’ ke means ‘to’

• Let’s look at these examples:

Di atas Above, on top,

Ke atas To put it above,

Di depan In front of Ke depan To move forward

Di tepi At the side Ke tepi To move aside

• Do remember that in Malay, prepositions must have the prefixes di and ke to describe the places more specifically.

For example :• Di tepi di tengah, di sana, di situ • Ke atas, ke bawah , ke belakang

Examples in sentences:Saya suka ke sana. – I like to go there.Dia duduk di atas kerusi – She sits on a chair.
