This PEKA Guide contains information on the objectives and the framework of PEKA. It works as a guideline for teachers to assess pupil’s practical work in a coordinated manner. Objectives of Peka The objectives in conducting PEKA is to enable the students to: Master scientific skills Strengthen knowledge and understanding on the theories and concepts in Science Inculcate scientific attitudes and noble values Scoring Guideline Construct assessed Instrument/ evidence Performance indicator (PI) Score Construct I (Planning the experiment) Laboratory report Able to exhibit the complete planning of the following accurately: 1. Aim of the experiment 2. Hypothesis 3. Variables involved 4. Materials and apparatus 5. Procedure or technique 3 marks Consists of all the five performance indicators correctly 2 marks Consists of any 3 or 4 P.I. correctly 1 mark Consists of any 1 or 2 P.I. correctly Construct II (Carrying out the experiment) Checklist in the Individual Score Form (during the experiment) Able to carry out the experiment according to the planning: 1. Ability to use and handle the materials/ apparatus carefully and correctly 2. Ability to clean all the apparatus properly 3. Ability to store/ put back the apparatus correctly and safely 4. Ability to sketch/ draw any specimen/ science apparatus in correct arrangement and accurately 3 marks Able to achieve/ acquire all the P.I. correctly 2 marks Able to achieve any 2 or 3 P.I. correctly 1 mark Able to achieve any one of the P.I. correctly PEKA Guide

The Science Practical Assessment (SPM PEKA) is a school-based assessment that is implemented at level as part of the teaching and learning process. Objectives of Peka
