Find your balance. We all need to be active, and we all need to get enough rest. The trick is finding the right balance. It’s easy to find that balance on PEI. The Island is big enough to give you a sense of space, but it’s also home to a startling array of activities. Horseback riding, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, cycling, golf, hiking. And our coastline is jagged, so there are countless places hidden away, ready to be explored. But PEI is also small enough that you can pace yourself, taking the time to soak in the scenery. Fascinating history, amazing food, traditional music, and nature at its very best. It’s all here. Finding the right balance is up to you.

An eventful season. You may think of PEI as a summer destination. But fall is surprisingly busy, with more than 250 events in the Fall Flavours Festival alone. Did you hear that Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is playing at the Charlottetown Festival this fall? And there are also concerts, ceilidhs, kitchen parties, and country music jams all over the Island. Community plays and dinner theatre. Fiddlers and step dancers. Drag racing, stock car racing, and harness racing. Comedy shows, variety shows, and a sound & light show. Storytelling. Flea markets. A chocolate festival. And magic. Did we forget anything? Actually, a lot. Here’s a sampling of a few festivals and events happening this fall on the Island!

Savour fall flavours. Yes, savour the Fall Flavours Festival. Take the freshest ingredients, plucked from our fertile soil or fished from our sparkling seas. Rush them to local restaurants, markets, and vendors. Get them into the hands of skilled food artists, many trained at the Culinary Institute of Canada right here in Charlottetown. Prepare them perfectly. Serve them with style, and a smile. There’s a Culinary Trail that stretches across our province tip to tip. Freshly-picked apples. Locally-made wine. Corn that was in the field this morning. World-famous mussels. And of course, those potatoes. That’s what fall tastes like on Prince Edward Island.

Happy Trails! Sometimes it feels good to leave the car behind. On PEI, the Confederation Trail allows you to do just that. Flat and well-groomed, this former railway bed’s main route winds 270 kilometers tip to tip through some of the Island’s most beautiful scenery. Four additional “spurs” reach into Souris, Montague, Charlottetown, and Borden-Carleton. So you can start that walk, run, or bike ride within minutes from almost anywhere. Along the way, you can visit a museum, enjoy amazing views of St. Peters Bay, pass through towns large and small, or just enjoy the crisp air and majestic foliage. The Confederation Trail is the perfect way to slow down and get back to nature, and fall is the perfect time to do it.

Your tee is ready. Why is Prince Edward Island the top golf destination in Canada? Start with the scenery: it’s breathtaking. Then the number and diversity of the courses: we have more than thirty, ranging from family-friendly to legend-killer. Some are nine-hole beginner courses, some are part of luxurious resorts, and most are somewhere in between. How can there be so much golf in such a small place? Easy: the courses are not that far apart. Nor are they far from the other things people come to PEI for: pristine beaches, first-rate restaurants, romantic inns, theatre, music, shopping, and historical sites. Book your game online at www.golfpei.ca. So come on over. The crowds are gone, and your tee is waiting.

Take your fall outdoors. Stay inside and you can certainly have a wonderful time. But fall on Prince Edward Island seems to beckon us outdoors. It’s beautiful on the Island in fall. The gentle blue sky, the deep blue ocean, the rolling green hills dotted with autumn’s changes. Take a walk on one of our many uncrowded beaches. Cycle the roadways or explore our trails. Ever tried kayaking? Canoeing? Golf? How about geocaching? Climb a lighthouse. Explore sandstone cliffs, where the land meets the sea. Go bird-watching and see how many of our over 330 species you can spot. Explore the magical woods at Green Gables. These are just a few of the reasons to take your fall outdoors, on Prince Edward Island.
