Peer walks forward, but something invisible blocks him. PEER I can’t. Who are you? VOICE MYSELF. Go round about, Peer! Room enough on the mountain! Peer tries to pass away, but is blocked again. PEER Who are you? VOICE Myself! Who are you? PEER Myself? I hope? Peer picks up a stick.

Peer picks up a stick.

Peer strikes about wildly.

Peer falls in exhaustion.
PEER
Who are you?
VOICEMyself.
PEERSee, you keep saying that, but it never actually tells me anything.
What are you?
VOICEThe great Boyg.
PEERThat helps.
BOYGI am the Boyg, Peer Gynt!The Boyg that cannot be seen,But the Boyg that sees all.The Boyg that cannot be destroyed,But the Boyg that can destroy all.The one Boyg, the only Boyg.Go round about, Peer!

He tries to exit a few times, thrusting his stick through Boyg, over the following. He is stopped each time.
BOYGI am the Boyg, Peer Gynt!The one and only.The Boyg that’s unwounded.The Boyg that was hurt.The Boyg that was dead,And the Boyg that’s alive.
PEERWhat do you want from me, Boyg?
BOYGWho are you, Peer Gynt?
PEERI am myself?
BOYGWho are you, Peer Gynt?
PEERI am myself.

PEERWhy don’t you just hit me?
BOYGThe Boyg is not mad.

BOYGThe Boyg does not hit in the flesh. The Boyg does not need to fight to triumph.

PEERI’d rather fight another troll than answer you.
BOYGFine.
A small, ferocious, bloodthirsty troll charges toward Peer.
PEERI take that back! I’ll talk to you.
The troll freezes in place.
BOYGAre you sure, Peer?
PEERYes.
BOYGReally? Because if you would prefer, -
The troll comes back to life.

BOYGUnderstood.
The troll runs away.
BOYGSit down, Peer Gynt.
PEER(looking for a place to sit)
