A little something from Maria Laura

This is a story about a fantasy frog called Peedie and Princess Ismene. It entails learning while reading. Peedie the frog is a hero that has been our companion for more than four years, filling our everyday lives with fun and excitement. The moment that we realised that Peedie the frog was beginning to leave our every day adventures, we felt that we had to put pen to paper and write these stories. This was the only way we could keep Peedie the frog alive for ever!

Peedie and Princess Ismene are the main characters of the book and although real life events are included, we have given these stories a magical twist. Ismene was delighted to see herself illustrated as Princess Ismene and I thank her for her patience and her superb story telling abilities. I hope to inspire other mothers to do the same with their children’s every day adventures, so they are not lost but shared with those who love them.

The Pond of Fairies

Princess Ismene lived deep in the heart of Robin Hood’s country in a grand Victorian castle. It sat right on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire.

One warm sunny day, Princess Ismene sat on the balcony gazing at the birds and squirrels which were playing in the rose gardens. Her imagination began to wonder. She was always daydreaming of fairies, pixie dust and magical stories. She had heard the other children speak of fairies, so she jumped up off her seat and decided to find her way towards the large pond which was on the other side of the forest. She walked and walked through a dense forest surrounded by colourful flowers and enchanting sounds. Finally she reached the magical pond.

The Princess gazed around her. “It’s true! ” she said, “There is a pond of fairies! Oh! Ducklings! And a frog splashing around, playing in the water!”

He didn’t look like an ordinary frog. His skin was a lovely dark shade of green; his eyes were large and friendly; he had a wonderful wise expression.

The frog flipped out of the water and turned its wise little froggy face to the sun. Ismene was sure that she saw him smile. He stayed very still and stared at her. The frog then made a strange sound, “Quack,” like a duckling. It seemed like he was saying, “Hello.”

“It’s true – this is a magical place! You can hear sounds that come out of the woods,” she said excitedly as she left the pond and ran happily back home.

Since that day she continued going to The Pond of Fairies, as she had named it, to visit the frog and hear the sounds that came out of the woods. The frog was always at the pond waiting for her. It appeared as though the frog needed a warm embrace.

The little Princess spent many happy hours on the side of the pond, daydreaming and wishing it was full of pixie dust, fairies and flowers.
