Keeping Future Generations Healthy and SafeFeaturing National Speaker Janice Selekman, DNSc, RN, NCSN, FNASN, Professor, Department of Nursing at the University of Delaware

Dr. Selekman has spent her entire career in Pediatrics

serving as a staff nurse in New York, a Clinical Nurse

Specialist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia,

and most recent as a pediatric nursing educator in

Pennsylvania and Delaware. Dr. Selekman also served

as the Chair of the School of Nursing at the University

of Delaware for ten years.

Her expertise is in multiple areas of pediatrics,

including children with chronic conditions, adolescent

high risk behaviors, violence and bullying, and the mental health of children

and teens. She has written review books for pediatric nurse and school

nurse certification. Her greatest writing accomplishment, “School Nursing:

A Comprehensive Text” was released in its second edition in the summer of

2011.The book was named, AJN Book of the Year.

Dr. Selekman has received numerous awards, including the Educator Award from

the Society of Pediatric Nurses, the School Nurse Educator of the Year from the

National Association of School Nurses, and the Nurse Educator of the Year from

the State of Delaware. She is a nationally certified School Nurse and was inducted

as a Fellow in the National Academy of School Nursing in the summer of 2011.
