Enforcement & Education

City of Satellite Beach

The City of Satellite Beach used overtime in the past to enforce the pedestrian crosswalk compliance due to needs elsewhere in the community.

The City Council voted 5‐0 to add two new police officer positions to allow the Police Department enough staff to have an on‐going enforcement program.

The Enforcement Program will concentrate on the crosswalks, as well as the speed reduction proposal from FDOT.

The City of Satellite Beach Youth Council has begun to address the idea of more education in the classroom.

The City’s Fire Department will be adding “crosswalk safety” to their talks with the Elementary Schools.

Space Coast TPO

RRFB Pop-Up Education Events

In June and Oct 2019, the SCTPO in partnership with FDOT, City of Satellite Beach staff and Satellite PD, coordinated education pop-up events at the mid-block crossings in Satellite Beach.

The purpose was to educate pedestrians on how to use the mid-block crossings and RRFBs by speaking with residents and visitors face-to-face, who were travelling on the corridor, and handing out TIP cards and educational materials.

The SCTPO is planning to schedule more pop-ups in the Spring and Summer of 2020.

In June and Oct 2019, the SCTPO, FDOT D5, City of Satellite Beach, and Satellite Beach PD partnered together to educate citizens on how to use the RRFBS.
