Status Report

To meet the conditions outlined in ESSB 5024 Section 311(6), WSDOT hereby submits the attached status report for the Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety and Safe Routes to School programs.

WSDOT Highways & Local Programs, through a criteria based process, identifies cost-effective projects to improve the conditions for biking and walking. Highways & Local Programs provides technical assistance and oversight to ensure delivery of the projects.

Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Program Since 2006, including projects awarded funding in the 2013-15 biennium, approximately $44 million in federal and state funding has been made available to 55 local agencies for 105 projects. To date, two projects were cancelled and 52 projects are complete and being utilized by the public.

The remaining 51 projects are in various stages of development from design to construction (status – underway). For recently selected projects, agencies are currently executing the agreements necessary to start the projects (status – approved). A brief description and status about each of these projects is detailed in Table 1.
