PEDAGOGICAL USES OF TRANSLATION
Translation has been proposed as a means for learning and
teaching a foreign language .
1. Disfavored or favored the
use of translation in
pedagogic context of
foreign language learning.
2. Arguments against
translation.
Translation interfered with the natural process of learning a foreign
language.
Corrupted its use through what was thought to be an unnatural co-
presence of the mother tongue.
Interference was also thought to occur when learnes translated from
the foreign language into their native language.
This opposition to translation was based in two kind of bilingualism:
Compound bilingualism: two languages are assumed to be
stored together in the individual’s mind.
COORDINATE BILINGUALISM: TWO LANGUAGES ARE ASSUMED TO BE
STORED SEPARATELY IN THE INDIVIDUAL’S MIND
Arguments for translation
1. Translation is a key in the so-called
grammar-translation method.
2. Helps in the development of proficiency.
3. Learners increase their confidence and
motivation to learn a foreign language.

THE NATURE OF THE TRANSLATION PROCESS
We want to have more direct-evidence
of the translator’s mental-processes in
text comprehension, interpretation,
restructuring and rewording; through
of this methods, thinkin aloud or
introspectio, verbal reports also known
as think-aloud protocols is known as
retrocpection
CORPUS STUDIES IN TRANSLATION
This method also allow us to focus on a
combination of lexical, syntactic, and discoursal
features into different languages by different
translators. A major aim of work with
comparable corpora is to establish patterns
that are either restricted to translations or
occur with different frequency in them
TRANSLATION AND GLOBALIZATION
Globalization plays an important role about the
process of information distribution of the
translation, these new technological facilities
have the emergence of a worldwide translation
industry. An area of substantial growth in the
demand for translation is so-called software
“localization” is arguably the field in which the
translation needs generated by modern
