Peck Place students had made stars to honor the Veteran men and women in their families.

Prior to Veterans Day, the Peck Place Student Council sold red, white, and blue ribbons which students and staff wore on Veterans Day. The money they raised was donated to the VFW.

The ceremony opened with the presentation of colors by the 6th Grade Flag Bearers, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Mr. Carbone, Principal of Peck Place School, gave a welcoming address and challenged the students to recognize the importance of Veteran’s Day bygiving back to their community in their own way.

The 6th grade students sang the “Armed Forces Medley,” arranged by Lloyd Larson, and Veterans stood when they heard their branch of the service being recognized.

This portion of the program, with the veterans standing for their service anthem, was very moving.

These Veterans stood for the Air Force anthem; this group included servicemen from Orange’s own Air Force division, the 103rd Air Control Squadron.

The Veterans Day Guest Speaker was Lt. Fred Bond, a member of the Air Force’s 103rd Air Control Squadron, stationed here in Orange.

The 3rd grade students sang “Thank You Soldiers,” by Michael and Angela Souders, and 4th graders sang “Our Heroes Will Live On,” by Teresa Jennings.

The ceremony ended with the recession of colors and the entire assembly singing “America the Beautiful.”
