LARRY WEATHERDON, Digital Resource Manager, Algonquin College

By enabling students to master skills at their own pace, competency-based learning
programs help to save students both time and money while powering Institutions
with flexibility and student-level insights to improve courses continuously.
Depending on the strategy pursued, competency-based programs create
multiple pathways to graduation, make better use of technology, support new
staffing patterns that utilize teacher skills and interests differently, take advantage
of learning opportunities outside of school hours and walls, and help identify
opportunities to target interventions to meet the specific learning needs of
students. Each of these presents an opportunity to achieve greater efficiency and
increased productivity.

Understanding and selecting degree programs to take online is only the first step
in the process of delivering successful online programs. The change management
that’s necessary to deliver and sustain online programs successfully affects
the entire institution from faculty, admissions, financial aid, registrar and other
departments. Institutions that have traditionally resisted change are being asked to
transform themselves in unprecedented ways. Many college and university leaders
are beginning to take bold steps to meet the new reality. In this panel, you will hear

App-tivities: Mobile Learning in the 21st CenturyCARI JIMENEZ, Online Lecturer, University of Florida
As educators, research show us the importance of “Exposure, Repetition and
Practice” for the learning process. We strive to create learning ecosystems where
the student can interact in a meaningful way with the course content. However,
often we are faced with the spatial and time constraints of our postindustrial
globalized world that prevents our students to access, connect and engage with
it. The challenge then is to create new possibilities and opportunities that enable
students to participate in a new learning environment where learning is not
compartmentalized to rigid time, and space boundaries but rather is open-ended,

Learning Through Immersive EngagementReading has been the cornerstone of education since the advent of the printing
press. Yet despite our world becoming ever more technologically interconnected,
the ways in which learners and educators interact with the written word have
remained largely static. With REVEL from Pearson, a new learning experience
can begin. Designed for the way today’s students read, think, and learn, REVEL
empowers educators to increase engagement in the course, to better connect with
students, and to break through to learning reimagined.

Leveraging Efficacy Data to Identify “At-Risk” StudentsImproving Student Retention requires you to quickly identify “At-Risk” Students by
monitoring and measuring Student Engagement at the course level. Having the right
tool with effective and intuitive functionality is the key to collecting the necessary
data to ensure improved student outcomes. ConnectYard facilitates better student
engagement by helping faculty use functions like “Dropbox” to announce grades
and assignments, as well as allowing them to track student views of posted content.
This presentation will focus on how faculty can leverage ConnectYard’s student
engagement data to identify and support “At-Risk” students!
