They combined the rankings for the major sports for the past 4 years in order to come up with the top schools in the rankings. The sports included were Rugby, Cricket, Hockey and Water Polo played by the majority of the schools. Pearson is the second-highest ranked co-ed Sports School in the boys’ division and ranked 22 nd in the country of all boys’ schools. We are very proud of this fine achievement! Our Winter sports programme will soon come into full swing with many girls’ and boys’ teams par- ticipating in pre-season tournaments and festivals and, of course, our full winter sports’ pro- gramme in Terms 2 and 3. We are looking forward to another successful winter sports’ season. By now you are probably aware of our Musical ‘Grease’ which opens on 20 April and runs until Sat- urday, 25 April.     GOLF Pearson’s Top 4 golfers attended the Cradock

    Classic Golf Challenge hosted by Cradock and

    organized by Grey High School on the weekend

    of the 13 March.

    Competing with the top golfing teams such as

    Grey High School, DF Malherbe and Daniel

    Pienaar and many others, our team managed to

    come 7th

    overall. The tournament was played

    over 3 days consisting of a practice round

    (course management clinic) and 3 different

    formats of competitive golf, namely:

    Foursomes, Betterball and Individuals.

    (Gr 8E2) will perform 5 Musical Theatre Items, showcasing her singing, dancing and

    acting abilities, as well as performing a classical song. ; Ilandi Engelbrecht (Gr 10) will

    be participating in the Dance Section of this competition. Good luck, girls!

    FIRST AID COURSE

    This month has been a busy one for a group of dedicated

    Pearsonites who completed the St John’s Ambulance First Aid

    Course at the school. Through the course they learned

    valuable life-saving skills. The lessons were intensive sessions

    of theory, practical and testing, over two consecutive week-

    ends: Core Lessons for Level I: Emergency scene management,

    shock, unconsciousness and fainting, breathing and cardiovas-

    cular emergencies, CPR – Adult/child/infant, Choking -Adult/

    child/infant, Severe bleeding, wound care, injuries, medical

    conditions (diabetes, convulsions, asthma, allergies)

    Lessons for Level II: Secondary survey, multiple casualty man-

    agement, chest injuries, eye injuries, conditions related to

    Cold and Heat, Poisons, Bites and Stings, Rescue Carries and

    Stretchers.

    Each new first-aider will be issued with an internationally recognised certificate. Now that they are

    qualified, the pupils will be available for duties at sports fixtures throughout the year. Look out for our

    first-aiders on the fields during the winter term. Who knows - you may need their help!

    MR AND MISS PEARSONALITY 2015 CROWNED

    On Saturday Pearson held the Mr & Miss Pearson-

    ality gala evening in their school hall. This

    event was a sell-out occasion last year and this

    year was no exception. The theme of this year’s

    show was “Step-D Up” and the finalists excelled

    in their various dance scenes: “Tutu’s in an Art

    Gallery”, “Workaholic Flash Mob”; a “Masked

    Tango” and a very exciting “Let’s take this out-

    side to the streets” where Miss Melanie Norden,

    the organiser and brain behind the show, pulled

    out all the stops. The event was hosted by the outgoing Mr & Miss Pearsonality, Daniel Black

    and Tamryn Morris, who were involved in the choreography and production. The judging

    panel included well-known P.E. personalities such as Mr PE 2014 – André Fourie, Jaco

    Rademeyer, Heinz, Estelle Cunningham and Elke Gerber.

    They both entered as a Tag-Team and ob-

    tained a Gold Medal for their ranking divi-

    sion and a Bronze Medal for the Open u/17

    sion at present. After going through a num-

    ber of auditions, he was given the opportunity to show his acting skills.

    held at NMMU on 6 & 7 March. They obtained 19 podium positions. The following 6 athletes

    have been selected for the final team that will represent Eastern Province at the National

    sub-youth, youth & junior championships to be held in Bloemfontein from 9 -11 April:

    Keagan van Dyk - High Jump ; Jessé Fourie -100m and 200m ; Lisa Venter 800m and

    1500m ; Kristen Basson – 200m and 400m ; Anél Fourie – 800m & Camryn Riddle – 500m

    * Daniel Doyle, Keeran Forbes & Kyle Jacobs who have been identified by a cricket scout as

    eligible to play S.A. u/19 Cricket in the next 2—3 years.

    * Kirsten Manthe, Abigail Sieberhagen & Carla de Klerk who were

    ranked 2nd in the first round of the High School Quiz in connection with

    South Africa’s National Science Festival run by Rhodes University.

    * Pascale Potgieter who is included in the South African Federation Shotokan Karate Team

    to represent South Africa at the 5th JKA Karate Association World Championships in the

    Netherlands.

    * Peter Coffey (No. 1 seed) and Alex van Rijswijck (No. 3 seed) who were selected for the E.P.

    Surf Longboarding Team to compete at the S.A. Championships in May.

    * Casey McLeavy and Candice Stock who were selected as part of the SWD Water Polo Squad

    to participate in the National South African Water Polo Tournament in Durban, 9-12 April.

    * the following Girls’ Hockey players who were selected to the Provincial Squads in the

    various age groups. A further selection process will take place to finalise the teams and non-
