The Enduring Legacy

72nd Anniversary 1941-2013

As the generation of Pearl Harbor Survivors, WWII veteran’s and home front civilians pass away, the

stakeholders of WWII history pass on to the next generation of the hope and promise to remember the

events that changed their live and the course of history.

The 79th Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration is an opportunity to explore the legacy of Peal Harbor through

the lens of American memory. All generation of Americans should be involved in the exploration and

discovery of this history.

A multitude of special events are planned and you are invited to join in commemoration this historic

milestone and honoring the enduring legacy of Pearl Harbor.

Public Event’s Description

December 6th & 8th at 2;15 p.m. & 2:45 p.m.

Narrated Historic Pearl Harbor Boat Tours

Pearl Harbor Visitor Center

Narrated by National Park Service rangers, this one hour boat tour takes visitors around

historic Ford Island to view many of the notable sites of the 1941 Japanese air raid on

Pearl Harbor. All boats will depart from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. The program is

offered seperate from the normal park program and includes a stop at the USS Arizona

Memorial. Seating is limited. Reservations are required. Tickets can be booked online at

recreation.gov or by calling 808-954-8721

December 7th, 2013 4:30p.m., 7:30 p.m. & December 14th 4:30p.m.

Honolulu Theatre for Youth Tenney Theatre

The play “Nothing is The Same” will be performed. The play explores how on

December 7th, 1941, the live of 4 11 year olds living on Oahu changed forever when

Pearl Harbor is attacked. The play explores what friendship means when everything in

one’s world is turned upside down. Recommended for children 8 years and up. Visit the

Public Events Description

December 7th

*.NPS and U.S. Navy Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration Ceremony at 7:45 a.m. at the Pearl Harbor Visitor

Center. The event is open to the public. Attendees should arrive no later than 7 a.m. Free public parking is

available at Aloha Stadium, with free shuttles to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center starting at 6 a.m.

*Ewa Field Memorial from 7:45a.m. to 9 a.m. at Ewa Marine Corps Air Station. Admission is free. The

Aloha Chapter of the Marine Corps League and the Honolulu Council of the Navy League of the United

States will observe the 72nd Anniversary of the Japanese attack at Ewa Marine Corps Air Station to honor

those Marines who fought and died here.

*Hickam Field Ceremony 7:55 a.m. – 9a.m. at Atterbury Circle, Hickam Filed. Admission is free. The 15th

Wing will host the 72nd annual Dec 7th remembrance ceremony to honor the 189 killed and 303 wounded

during the attacks. The ceremony is open to all military identification card holders, veterans, survivors of the

attack and guests of attending survivors. Base access is required. Attendees must be in place by 7:15 a.m.

* USS Oklahoma Memorial Pearl Harbor Day remembrance from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30p.m. . USS Oklahoma

Memorial , Ford Island. The event will be hosted by the National Park Service in honor of those who served

on the USS Oklahoma during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Those who wish to attend the ceremony can

catcha a free shuttle departing every 15 minutes from the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, which is

adjecent to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The memorial is located on Ford Island.

*Join the National Museum of the Pacific War to pay homage to those who served the United

States on December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor. 12:25 pm marks the exact time the attack started

on Pearl Harbor. Patriotic Music, presentation of colors, rifle salute, and guest keynote speaker

will be a part of the ceremony.

Our keynote speaker will be Major General (Ret.) Alfred A. Valenzuela of the U.S Army

Following the ceremony there will be a book signing in the Bush Gallery Store. Meet the

Author and Illustrator or Voices of Pearl Harbor from 1:30 - 3:00 pm. Books will be available

for purchase at that time.

•Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade from 5-7 p.m. from FT. DeRussy to Kapiolani Park.

•The Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade committee will host the 72nd annual Pearl Harbor Parade

featuring Pearl Harbor survivors, Military and government officials and marching bands and

parade units from the U.S. mainland and Hawaii.
