We have rung out the old year and rung in 2017. Endings and beginnings bring happiness and hope, sadness and nostalgia all in one confusing mixture. At least, that is what I am feeling right now. I am very happy that the search committee has recommended a candidate, Rev. Brian Damrow to be your full-time pastor. And I am sad to be leaving a faith community that has welcomed me personally, listened carefully and appreciatively in worship, and been so active in the life of Peace United Church of Christ. One of the primary tasks of an interim minister is to help prepare the congregation to receive new leadership. This may be my last newsletter article to you all, and so I am going to take this opportunity to give you some suggestions for ways to welcome your new pastor into this community: 1. Introduce yourself! Again and again. I hope that the new directory will be available by the time he arrives, which will help him learn names and families. 2. Wear name tags with first and last names for the first month or so. It is enormously helpful to a new minister in learning your names. 3. Peace is so good at warm hospitality that I am sure you will already do this, but bringing food on move in day or even for a few days afterward are enormously helpful to a new family. 4. Send cards of welcome, and if you have any special expertise or knowledge-- the best car repair shop, dentist, etc. offer your help. 5. Pray daily for the minister and the family during this time of transition. Keep your hearts and minds open to new leadership, new ways of preaching, and new approaches to worship and prayer. 6. Be patient. It will take a while for the new minister to settle in and find his way around, to make visits, and become part of the community. The Council will be preparing for the new minister, as will other organizations within the church, to ensure that he is welcomed and supported by the church. But each congregation member must also do this work as well. Like many of you and the church itself, I am working out my budget for the coming year. A new full-time pastor will require a larger budget for pastoral leadership and a greater level of financial support from the congregation. Prayerfully consider increasing your financial commitment to Peace Church. When we commit our time and our resources to God's work, we not only bless others but those blessings return to us in beautiful and unexpected ways. It has been a blessing to me to have served you as your interim pastor. I am confident that you will be a blessing to Rev. Damrow too. In Christ's peace, Rev. Collette

...from the Interim Minister

Happy New Year!

In the event of inclement weather, please leave the concrete parking area in the back of the church available to those who may have difficulty

traversing the parking lot in snow or ice. Thank you!

On December 11, the Search Committee proudly recommend-ed Rev. Brian Damrow for consideration as Peace Church’s next pastor. The Council unanimously voted to accept the Search Committee’s recommendation. Rev. Damrow has been invited to a Candi-dating weekend to be held on January 28-29. Rev. Damrow will be available for a meet and greet re-ception on Saturday, January 28, in the Fellowship Hall from 2-4pm. On Sunday, January 29, Rev. Damrow will lead us in worship. Following worship, there will be a Special Congregational meeting to vote on whether or not to call Rev. Damrow as our pastor. All members are encouraged to attend these events.

Rev. Brian is a graduate of Eden Seminary. His previously served St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Saukville, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Dawn, have been married 32 years. They have three chil-dren: Heather, Seth and Aaron. Heather is married to Zach and has two sons: Michael 8 and Matthew 3. Also important to the Damrow family, are two sister cats: Maddie and Dottie.

Brian and Dawn enjoy traveling and recently visited Maui. They enjoy amusement and water parks, movies, festivals and roller skating (that's how they met). They are also great sports fans. Green Bay Packers football (of course, they're from Wisconsin) and St. Louis Cardinals baseball (hooray). But spending time with the grandkids always comes first.

In the "Closing Thoughts" of Rev Damrow's profile he wrote this: "My dream for the congregation that I will be blessed to join is to live is such a way that our journey together says YES. Yes to the question Jesus asks us today. 'Do you love me'? That we can be a place of hope for those in need and a refuge to those that the world has pushed aside. A congregation where the membership is passionate about worship and service. A congregation that is not afraid to jump out of the box and try something new. A congregation that wants the spirit to edify them to use those gifts they have in the communi-ties that we will serve together. This is my dream."
