To Whom It May Concern:

I am seeking to pursue a teaching position in k-12 physical education/secondary health. I have finished the K-12 Physical Education and School Health program at Winona State University. After student teaching at Red Pine Elementary and Eagan High School in the RAVE school district, I now feel that I have the experience to run my own classroom and accept the challenges of becoming a teacher.

During my experience at Red Pine Elementary, I was lucky enough to gain experience using the cooperative teaching style. Because we used this model, I was able to work with all students K-5 and learn how each age group moves and learns differently. With this knowledge, I created a lacrosse unit with modifications for each grade to ensure a balance of challenge and success for students.

While at Eagan High School, I was given the privilege to teach a group of students with special needs and learned how to adapt my lesson plans so that these students could excel in physical education. During my time at this school, I had the opportunity to get to know and learn from many students with different disabilities. Throughout the semester, I designed several lesson plans with adaptations and modifications for each student. Although I learned how to create individualized lessons, the greatest lesson I learned from was the importance of creating relationships with each student.

I also taught Issues in Wellness II, Fitness for life, and an advanced sports class at Eagan High School. I was able to work with a diverse group of learners in a variety of settings. Because of the variety of classes that I taught, I was able to experiment with several different teaching styles in each of these settings. My goal was to create a physically and emotionally safe learning environment that was appropriate for each class.

Aside from my teaching experiences I also have spent two years as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Stealth 14u, one year for the Midwest Speed 14u Gold, and beginning my first season as the New Prague High School Head Softball Coach. These roles have helped me gain leadership skills that I enjoy carrying over to the classroom. I have played the game for 14 years at several levels including collegiate, but during this experience, I was able to learn from the other coaches and develop a deeper understanding of the game from the coaching perspective.  Coaching these teams have helped me understand the importance of designing lesson plans that teach to the students’ needs and the significance of modifying activities that will help each individual learner.

I have my resume attached and assessable forms of transcripts from Winona State University that can be delivered to you at your convince. I am very excited to start a new career as a physical education and heath teacher.

Sincerely,

Ashley Walker
