The nebulizer is one of the most important components ina flame AA spectrometer. Sample solutions, with differingphysical properties, must be converted into an aerosol ofsmall, similarly sized droplets. This places great demandson the design of the nebulizer.

The Lvov Platform is a small plate of solid pyrocoatedgraphite that is inserted into the graphite tube. It has a slightdepression in the center which can accommodate up to 50 Lof solution. The function of the Lvov Platform is to isolatethe sample from the tube walls to allow more reproducibleatomization of the sample through indirect heating. Theplatform heats primarily by the radiation given off from thetube walls. Sample vaporization and atomization occur afterthe tube reaches a steady-state temperature.

Use of the Lvov Platform provides:

For the Widest Selection of ElementsThe basic components of a hollow cathode lamp (HCL) are a sealed glasscylinder filled with an inert gas (argon or neon), an anode, a cathode, andeither glass or quartz end window. The cathode is a hollow cylinder ofthe element whose spectrum is to be produced, or in some cases, an alloyor carefully selected mixture of metals which do not spectrally interfere.Hollow cathode lamps emit light by the following process: The fill gas isionized when an electrical potential is applied between the anode andthe cathode. The positively charged ions collide with the negativelycharged cathode and dislodge individual metal atoms in a process knownas sputtering. These sputtered metal atoms are excited throughimpact with fill gas ions, and light of the specific wavelengths for thatelement is emitted when the atom decays from the excited state backto the more stable state.

PerkinElmer Exclusive 6/24 WARRANTY*Lumina Hollow Cathode Lamps1. We warrant that during the first six months or after 5,000 milliampere-hours of operation,

whichever comes first, from initial date of shipment, the lamps will meet or exceed theintensity and absorption specifications to which all new lamps are tested.

2. All our hollow cathode lamps are warranted to light and emit the spectra of the elementindicated for two years or 5,000 milliampere-hours of operation from the date of theshipment, whichever comes first.

3. If any lamp fails before the expiration of the warranty period, it will be replaced free of charge.* The lamp warranty is void for lamps which sustain physical damage or are operated at power

levels substantially above or below the power level recommended on the lamp label. The lampwarranty may vary in different countries.

Lumina coded hollow cathode lamps are available in twoseries: with and without an Intensitron adapter cable.

Series N30501XX and N30502XX Lumina lampsdo not include an Intensitron adapter cable and aredesigned to be used with PerkinElmers AAnalystTM

series of instruments.

Series N30503XX and N30504XX Lumina lampsinclude an adapter cable that allows the lamps to berecognized by the following instruments: SIMAATM

6100/6000, 5100 (PC), 4110 ZL, 4100, 4100 ZL, 3300,2100, and 1100(B).
