Introduction

Computer hardware is constantly changing to provide

faster and more powerful platforms for more demanding

applications. The life expectancy for computer hardware

and operating systems is often just a few years, much

shorter than many manufacturers would like for their

control systems. As a result, many manufacturers find

themselves with aging computer hardware that is difficult

to replace because computer vendors no longer sell

models which support the older operating systems anddrivers required for legacy control system. Computer

virtualization technology now provides the ability to

replace older computers with newer hardware running the

same legacy operating systems and applications in virtual

machines. The DeltaV Obsolete Server Replacement

enables new server hardware to replace legacy servers for

DeltaV v9.3.1 and v10.3.1.

The new servers utilize Windows Server 2008 R2 with

virtual machines to run legacy DeltaV software on

Windows Server 2003. With DeltaV Obsolete Server

Replacement you can replace out-of-date workstations

and upgrade your computer hardware without upgradingyour application software.

Product Description

DeltaV Obsolete Server Replacement enables you toreplace an older server with a newer server running legacyDeltaV software in a virtual machine. With the ObsoleteServer Replacement, you purchase a new Dell server

running Windows Server 2008 and install a virtualmachine running Windows Server 2003. You can theninstall legacy DeltaV software (v9.3.1 or v10.3.1) within thevirtual machine the same as you did with the originalworkstation hardware. The virtualization software isincluded with standard Windows Server 2008 R2operating system on the host computer. And of course, theobsolete server replacement is fully tested and supportedby Emerson for use in your on-line or off-line legacyDeltaV system.
