PDHPE and EducationalSettings- My Position The value of PDHPE is very important because it shows children the healthbenefits and risks of their lifestyle choices. It helps students with skills andfitness and shows them the correct way to manage and maintain their body.Valuing PDHPE is important because you are modelling for the students thatthey need to think that it is important as well. They may not have manyinfluences in their life pushing them towards a healthy lifestyle so you haveto show to students the importance of physical activity and healthy eating. Wellbeing is an important part of a childs life and through exercise andhealthy eating they will bring those good habits into their adult life andtherefore have greater wellbeing. 6. Academic Literature In the article The crisis in School Physical Education: An argumentAgainst the Tide shows that David Kirk has a different opinion thenmost of the public he talks about that there is little hard evidenceto show childrens skills and fitness have been deteriorating. Healso states that The length of time required to make a judgementthat there has indeed been a deterioration in skills or fitness is alsoan important issue to consider. How long must we wait? Whichcontradicts to most of society and the medias opinion aboutchildren these days and the physical activity that they do at school. Also in the article Effective instruction in physical education byJudith E. Rink she states the meaning of an effective teacher andhow important it is that students understand what we do asteachers and how different learners respond to information.Teachers need to be confident in their teaching of PDHPE andknow all areas of health so they can demonstrate and model to theirstudents. 7. Academic Literature Effective teaching. In development physical education for todays childrenby Gallahue states some teaching tips for teachers and summarises whythe curriculum is so important and why each children is an individual andlearns at there own rate. This relates to PDHPE because it shows that notall children will be at the same level of skills and capabilities so us asteachers need to know different games and strategies to keep everyoneincluded. It is important that teachers know the syllabus very well and know what theyare planning to do for each lesson and the outcome that they want toachieve, it is also important for the students to know what they are focusingon for the lesson so they can know if it is being achieved. The syllabus is avery useful document and teachers need to be able to teach the outcomesand indicators confidently. 8. References Gallahue, D. L. (1996). Chapter 12.
