Thank you for your interest in participating in the Grosvenor Teacher Fellow program. The information you provide in your application will be used to help the review committee select participants for the 2016 program. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance as a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow. Educators will be selected to fill approximately 35 openings. We receive thousands of applications annually, so please recognize that the selection process is very competitive. Directions This is a sample application. Please do not submit this application. On the main Grosvenor Teacher Fellow website there is a link to an online application form that you must use to submit a complete application. PLEASE NOTE: You can NOT save your application as you go through the online form. This sample application is intended to provide you with the questions ahead of time, so that you can copy/paste your text into the online form. What You’ll Need to Complete this Application

• Current resume • Two professional references (name, employer & job title, phone number, email address) • One letter of recommendation*

* The letter of recommendation should be written by one of your two professional references. This letter should provide specific examples about your ability to teach about the world. As an applicant, you are responsible for uploading the letter into our application system. We will not accept letters submitted separately.

2016 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Free Response Questions

(you must answer all 4) Applicants will be judged based on: 1. Their proven understanding of geographic literacy and ability to teach about the world; 2. Their current ability to reach a broad number of students, other professional educators, and the local community following the expedition; and 3. Their willingness, ability, passion, and creativity to bring back what they learned on the expedition and apply it in meaningful ways. Free Response Question #1: Please answer the following in 250 words or less. The Grosvenor Teacher Fellow program is named in honor of Gilbert M. Grosvenor, Chairman Emeritus National Geographic Society and Education Foundation Board, for his lifetime commitment to geography education and geographic literacy. Please describe the best tangible example of a lesson,

project, or program you have created and implemented in your classroom or teaching environment that helps support geographic literacy. Free Response Question #2: Please answer the following in 250 words or less. The Grosvenor Teacher Fellow program is a highly competitive and unique professional development opportunity that few people are selected to experience. Tell us why we should select you for this program. Why are you passionate about teaching about the world? What makes you and your teaching unique? Free Response Question #3: Please answer the following in 250 words or less. Program requirements are due over the course of the program year and include such things as goal-setting, classroom and outreach action plans, reflection, and outreach documentation. These requirements will help NG Education measure the program’s impact on Fellows, their students, and their professional and community networks as well as continue to improve and grow the program over time.
