After a number of experiences that have led her to share the stage with major songstresses on both sides of the Atlantic including Martirio and Maria Bethânia, and surrounding herself with a symphony orchestra, Omara Portuondo is set to go back on tour in order to present Gracias live and share this remarkable anniversary in the company of her fans. This time she will be performing alongside a small-scale production group that will enable Omara to show off her vocal talents to the full. The ensemble who accompanied her in the studio, comprising a blend of fresh talent and experience, was outstanding; as indeed is the quintet that will be backing her on performances she is set to give throughout Europe and Asia as of summer 2008 again under the direction of guitarist Swami Jr – the only musician who, along with Andrés Coayo, was part of the ensemble who recorded the album. While on tour Omara will again be accompanied by a mix of fresh talent and old hands because she has recruited two of the island’s up-and- coming stars: pianist Harold López Nussa and drummer Rodney Barretto. Two different musical generations share the stage together with the same goal in mind: to extol a star who has become one of Cuba’s foremost songstresses and has been an exemplary figure for anyone who has been a devout fan of this style of music since the fifties. Many years have gone by since Omara first achieved fame in Cuba as a member of Las d’Aida, and yet the singer still continues to live up to the name she was making for herself ever since she embarked on her career. Despite her age, she has an extraordinary natural ability to enchant audiences simply by sharing what has been flowing through her veins for six decades.
