FORMATION OF MANAGING COMMITTEE
A managing committee was constituted to administer the activities of the IETE students’
forum under the guidance of Prof. Gopakumar K, Associate Professor, ECE Department on
20th
June 2012.The committee presented the annual report of this year and also the accounts.
Committee elected the following members as the office bearers for the year 2012-13with Dr. K.
Gopakumar as the staff coordinator. The members of the committee are

SECURITY ISSUES IN SMARTCARDS

A talk on “Security issues in smartcards” was organised by ISF, TKMCE, Kollam, Kerala. It
was conducted on 9th August 2012 at the college PTA hall at 2pm. The meeting started with a
silent prayer. Dr.Suresh Babu S, Principal welcomed the guest. The session was handled by
Mr.Biju T Abraham. An alumni of this institute, Mr.Biju is currently holding the post of director
of Engineering at Cyber Source, a Visa company in US. After his UG programme, he joined
L&T, Mumbai and worked there for 6 years. Later he took his MS from Santaclara University,
USA and joined Visa. He is a Certified Scrum Master and certified Scrum product owner. Now,
he is one of the well known persons in Agile software development platform.
The talk was attended by final year Electronics and Communication students. It was an
informative as well as an interactive session. First he talked about security issues in smartcards.
He presented different aspects of security and techniques by it achieved. Then he discussed about
five steps in landing a job, including resume preparation, telephonic interview, face to face
interview, executive interview and job acceptance. His presentation started with the tips to be
followed while preparing a resume then he moved on to the next steps. The presentation also
included a session about scrum product and agile software . He also shared his experiences in
working at L&T, VISA and as a recruiter in US company, which added flavour to the
session.Vote of thanks was given by Dr.K.Gopakumar, staff co-ordinator of ISF, TKMCE
chapter.

E-QUEST

IETE students’ forum of TKMCE conducted a quiz competition E-QUEST, aimed at
exploring the talent of budding electronic brains. The quiz was conducted with the objective of
motivating the students to enrich their knowledge on the basics and recent trends in the field of
electronics and communication. The field of electronics and communication is one of the most
dynamic disciplines of Engineering. The prelims were conducted on 12th
August 2012. There
were thirty three teams having two members each from the third and fifth semesters for the
prelims, out of which six teams were selected for the finals.

The final round was conducted on 4th October 2012 in the college auditorium and
consisted of five rounds. The first round consisted of general questions. The second round was
based on recent trends and developments in electronics and communication. The third round was
very interesting, where each team was asked to identify logos and captions of renowned
electronic industries and organizations. In the fourth round, the participants had to identify
eminent personalities in the field of science. The last round was rapid fire round consisting of ten
questions which were to be answered in one minute. The aim of this round was to test the
knowledge of the participants in basic electronics and circuits. The quiz encouraged active
involvement from the audience as well, they were asked ten questions and the response was
overwhelming.

Cash prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners by the ISF staff coordinator
Dr. K. Gopakumar. A cash prize of Rs. 750/ was awarded to the winner, Rs. 500/ to the first
runner up & Rs.250/ to the second runner up.

The soul of the quiz program was definitely the quiz masters who made it all the more interesting
and interactive. As a part of the quiz competition an awareness talk show on IETE was also
conducted. Very soon, the ISF of TKMCE is planning to conduct a symposium named ‘Daksha’
for which ideas are being invited from the students.

PRELIMS FOR CIRCUIT DEBUGGING FOR S5 & S3
A circuit debugging contest was conducted by IETE on 15th October 2012 for 2nd year and 3rd
year students. 16 students registered for the event. 8 students were selected for the finals.

LAB TUTORIAL
The lab tutorial for S1 -S2 students was conducted by S6 and S8 students on 12th
February 2013.
A familiarization regarding electronic equipments used in lab such as CRO, Functin generator,
power supply and components like breadboard, multimeter etc.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT
An industrial visit to Doordarshan, Trivandrum was conducted by ISF for S4 and S6 students
during the month of February and March.
