TeacherTrainingandExperienceIhavemaintainedaprivatepianostudiosince1991.IhaveaBachelorofMusicinPedagogyandaMasterofEducationinTeachingMusicfromBobJonesUniversity.IhaveservedinchurchmusicministrysinceIwasateenager.StudioBenefits:LessonsonaBösendorfergrandpiano,StudentOnlineAccounts,iPadapplications,Musicsoftware,Digitalpiano,Miditechnology,Musiclendinglibrary,PianoExams/Auditions,andIncentives.

Student&FamilyResponsibilitiesWhenstudentsenroll,theyarereservingtheirplaceinthestudiofortheentireyear.Studentsagreetoarriveateachlessonpunctually,well-prepared,andwiththeirassignmentbooksandmusic.Tomakesteadyprogress,daily,focusedpracticeisnecessary.Consistentpracticeyieldssteadyprogresswhichinturnleadstogreatersatisfactionandenjoymentofpianostudy.

LessonEtiquetteTorespecteachstudent’slessontime,pleasearrivenoearlierthanfiveminutesbeforeyourlessontime.

NeededMaterialsPiano:Studentsmusthaveapianoathomeavailabletothem(awell-tunedacousticpianothatisingoodconditionoran88-keydigitalpianowithweightedkeys).Metronome:Studentsalsoneedametronomeforhomepractice.Music:Studentmusic(literaturebooks,sheetmusic,methodbooks)willbeorderedbytheteacherasneededandbilledtothestudent’saccount.Invoiceswillbesentbyemailanddueuponreceipt.

TuitionTuitionischargedbythemonthinadvance,andisbasedonthenumberofscheduledlessonsinthemonth.Tuitionisduethelastlessonofeachmonthfortheupcomingmonth.Invoicesaresentviaemailtheweekpriortowhentuitionisdue.Alatefeeof$15willbeaddedifpaymentisnotmadebythe7thofthemonth.Therearenocreditsorrefundsforlessonsmissedbystudents.Shouldtheteachercancelalesson,thestudentwillbecreditedforthemissedlesson.

Forexample,astudentregisteredfora30-minuteweeklyprivatelessonwillpay$80/$96foramonthwithfourlessons,or$100/$120foramonthwithfivelessonsdependingonlocation.

RecitalsAllstudentsareencouragedtoplayatthetworecitalswehaveeachyear.

MasterClassesatHopkinsPianoWewillhavefourpianomasterclassesduringtheyear.ThesefourMasterClassesalsoprovideanopportunityto“makeup”foranymissedlessons.Studentsmustregisteronlineiftheywouldliketoattend.MasterClassactivitiesincludeachancetoperformforpeersinarelaxedsetting,Theory&EarTraininggames,andopportunitiestoexploremusictechnology.

CancellationPolicy• AnylessonthatIhavetocancelwillberescheduledifpossible,oracreditwillbegiven.• Anylessonthatiscancelledduetoinclementweatherwillberescheduledifpossible.• Nopaymentcreditwillbeprovidedforstudentswhomisslessonsforanyreason.

LessonSwapFamiliesmaytradetheirlessontimewithanotherstudent(“LessonSwap”)tohelpavoidabsences.Allexchangesmustbedoneparenttoparent.Theparentrequestingtheexchangeisresponsibletonotifymeofanychangeswith24hours’notice.Prioritywillgotothenormallyscheduledstudent(s)withnorefundorreschedulingfortheotherstudent(s)ifanyconfusionarises.

SkypeLessonsSkypeisaveryusefultoolforteachingstudentswhocannotmakeittolessonduetoinclementweatherormildillness.Ifyouhaveasmartphone,tablet,orlaptopwithacamera,pleasecreateafreeSkypeaccountandaddmynametoyourcontacts.ThiswillallowmetocallyouandhavealessonwithyoubySkype!MySkypeusernameisshellydhopkins.
