Dear Ms. Moore,

I recognize Chicago Magazine as one of the premier publications in the Chicago area. As a graphic artist, magazine design has always been an interest of mine. Your magazine surpasses others in its ability to fuse journalism and art into a fresh, expressive monthly publication. I will be nishing my Bachelor of Fine Arts in September at Michigan State University and I am eager to learn more about a possible design position upon completion of my degree. After reading and reviewing multiple issues, I believe that my skills and interests would contribute to furthering the success of the overall design of Chicago Magazine.

I have excelled in my ability to incorporate imagery and typography in both an inventive and informative way. After my experience as a design intern for StyleLine Magazine as well as a layout designer for VIM Magazine, I believe I have a strong understanding of what goes into the creation of e ective magazine design. I embrace opportunities that allow me to work with others and collaborate with ease. My energetic personality and devotion to my work has helped to mold me into a designer who is multifaceted. Attached is my resume highlighting these skills. My portfolio is also available for viewing at www._____.com.

My passion for design and the knowledge I have about what your magazine strives to do for its readers makes me more than quali ed to help contribute to its production. I would welcome the opportunity to interview with you and learn more about the magazine. Thank you for your consideration and I am looking forward to possibilty of meeting with you. I will keep in contact with you in order to answer any other questions you may have.

Best Regards,

Mrs Eaves is classified as a transitional serif typeface. Transi-tional serif typefaces made their first appearance in the mid-18th century. They are said to be one of the most common typeface classifications. The classification shares features with both Old Style and Modern typefaces. It received the name ‘tran-sitional’ because it is in between the two. It is said that the difference between the thicknesses of lines are more prominent than they are in Old Style but are still not as dra-matic as those in Modern typefaces.Well-known typefaces such as Times New Roman and Baskerville are frequently used and are both apart of the transitional serif classification along with Mrs Eaves.

Impression 5 Event PostersThese materials were produced for Impression 5 events that are catered to chilren and were aimed to create awareness about the various happen-ings. I first developed a graphic for each event that I then used throughout the entire process to ensure that all fliers, posters and event signage felt uni-form. I created a template that all posters would then follow so that each even looked different but all posters represented Impression 5 similarly.

English Brouchure A mock brochure for the Department of English at Michigan State. I chose to use a simple design that incorporated the used of diagonal lines to help break up the large amount of body text that had to be included into the design.
