Problem SpaceContext

The purpose and overall goal of this device is to improve the patient dentist relationship by localizing a patient’s information in one place.

The device is designed for foreign visitors. The device will help people in their daily lives

because it will automatically store demographic and medical information, such as x-ray film, reducing appointment times and it will provide information designed to encourage more healthful decisions concerning dental hygiene and maintenance.

P.D.A is a portable, easy to transport device that uses a projectable GUI which allows users to interact in real-time with a virtual interface.

It will be designed as an extension of a central EMR database and will provide easy to use, secure, portable transport and storage of personal dental information

The device will also provide the foreign visitor with pertinent information about local dentists such as specialties, customer complaints, experience, cost, office proximity and educational background.

As a personal gadget the device also constitute as personal dental advisory assistant. It manages the dentist appointments and routine applications of treatment. The device also gives personalized teeth maintenance advices daily to help the carrier keep healthy.

The dentists will be categorized by specialties. A general dentist will be listed as a general practitioner and all others by their specific area of expertise.

The patient is wishing to minimize the procedures for treatment and also to minimize costs.

The patient will not have extreme visual handicaps such as blindness.

The user should have some basic computer knowledge due to the digital nature of the menu system, but the overall goal is to design the product for novice users as well as computer experts.

Conceptual Model

Based off the ‘Sixth Sense’ from TED Labs at MIT.

Interface is projected from a small, portable projector that can be worn around the neck or carried in one’s pocket.

Most of participants thought the device (PDA) makes sense to them and is helpful especially when they face dental care problem, but there still has some points could be improved.

The prototype is not totally interactive, hence it is difficult for participants to clearly understand the whole concept of the device

Although most of participants are international student, they had not undergo the dental issues in the United States yet

Reconsider what icons could be accepted and understood with their functionality by most of the users

Enhance the interactive level of the product
