What is tokenization?

… AND HOW DOES IT HELP ME SECURE MY DATA?

Page 3: pci tokenization

Tokenization is secure data storage.

With tokenization, your customer data is automatically secured, without ever entering your own data system.

Step One: Customer Provides Data

Secure data can take many forms: credit card numbers, Social Security information, medical and banking data, and so on.

However, this data usually takes a standard form. For example, credit card numbers almost always look like:

1234-5678-9012-0000 And Social Security numbers have the form:

987-65-4321 This data is SENSITIVE and must be kept SAFE

Step two: Data is converted to tokens With TokenEx, your customer’s data, before entering your system, is routed

through our secure, Level 1 PCI-Certified Server and converted into a “token.”

A token looks similar to a real piece of data, but it is not a secure piece of data itself. It has no value, and thus no worth outside of our system.

For example, the credit card number 1234-5678-9012-0000 is “tokenized” to the number 1234-2842-4857-9372. It looks and acts just like a real credit card number, but it isn’t one.

Step 3: Token is returned to you

After the customer data is converted into a token, the real data is secured in our servers. The tokenized data – now safe – is passed on to you, the business.

Because the tokens look and act just like real data, they can be used in your systems the same way as actual credit card numbers, Social Security data, or so on. But there is no need to secure this data, because it isn’t a real piece of customer information!

This REDUCES YOUR PCI COMPLIANCE and SAVES YOU MONEY.
