The College draws the majority of its students from the Catholic feederschools of St Damian’s, Bundoora; Sacred Heart, Diamond Creek; OurLady of the Way, Kingsbury; St Francis of Assisi, Mill Park; St Martin ofTours, Rosanna/Macleod; St Mary’s, Greensborough and St Thomas theApostle, Greensborough North. The College also draws students fromother areas, as it is the only Catholic co-educational option forfamilies living in proximity to the Hurstbridge train line and theBundoora tram line.

The College was established in 1980 on land adjacent to the formerJesuit seminary known as Loyola. The College is a member of theIgnatian Network of schools and strongly promotes the Ignatiancharism honouring St Ignatius Loyola as its patron.

A consistent pattern of enrolments has been established over anumber of years with some fluctuation in enrolments noted in the lastthree years. With the appointment of a new Principal in 2008, achange in marketing strategy has resulted in a significant increase indemand for places at the College. This has confirmed the ongoingstrong community support and interest in the College. This growingdemand, particularly for places at Year 7, has been brought to the

attention of the Catholic Education Office and Loyola Collegeauthorities.

The College is located on a 10.9 hectare (27 acres) site in Watsonia. Ofparticular note is the acquisition in 2002 of the former Jesuit Seminarybuilding (built in 1934) and the Chapel of the Irish Martyrs, a smallcountry church moved to the school site from Arthur’s Creek in 1990.

The College has achieved gender balance across year levels. Studentsattending the College come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. There are a small number of students who come from families of non-English speaking backgrounds.

There has been ongoing refurbishment of buildings and developmentof grounds over a number of years. This has improved the facilities formembers of the College community so as to enhance the quality ofteaching and learning.

Families who send their children to the College are generally in stablefinancial positions. However, there are some families from variedsocio-economic backgrounds. The College has recently made astronger commitment to assisting families who may struggle to meetthe financial obligations of a Catholic Education. There is a fair andequitable process whereby individual fee payment arrangements aremade.

The College is conducted on formal lines with a well-structured anddeveloped curriculum and co-curricular program, effective welfare anddiscipline procedures and a strong emphasis on the nurturing ofGospel values and the importance of belonging to the Collegecommunity.
