The survey closed on July 14, 2014. 860 individuals responded to the survey.

Respondents identified the types of work they perform. 1233 responses were received to this question.

The analysis that follows is based on those 1233 responses.

Combined Analysis of Responses

True/False Questions

Q1: BIBFRAME is a project to modify the MARC Format for RDA cataloging (Correct Answer: FALSE)

Q2: BIBFRAME is an enhancement to the MARC Format that will introduce Linked Data into the world of bibliographic description (Correct Answer: FALSE)

Q3: BIBFRAME is a new computer system being built by the Library of Congress, and to be shared with all libraries, that is based on Linked Data principles (Correct Answer: FALSE)

Q4: BIBFRAME is a project to reimagine the bibliographic environment for a networked world (Correct Answer: TRUE)

Q5: BIBFRAME is a project initiated by the Library of Congress to build a next-generation OPAC and ILS (Correct Answer: FALSE)

Q6: BIBFRAME is a collection of tools and templates for use by catalogers and systems designers (Correct Answer: TRUE)

Q7: BIBFRAME is a project that will entirely replace the MARC Format (Correct Answer: TRUE)

Summary of Results: The responses to this survey indicate that there is a clear understanding that BIBFRAME will replace MARC, and that it will provide a new bibliographic environment. See Questions 1 and 4. The questions that raise some concerns are Question 3, since LC is not building a new computer system, and Question 5, which correlates to Question 3, and talks about an OPAC and an ILS. Question 6 also related to Question 5 and Question 3; if people did not respond correctly to Question 5 and Question 3, thinking that LC is building a system, they would not recognize that BIBFRAME is a collection of tools and templates.
