I WORK IN A SOFTWARE COMPANY WHICH IS LOCATED AT CYBERCITY PUNE, INDIA

MOST OF THE FOLKS HERE LIVE NEAR BY WORKPLACE SO THAT THEY CAN GIVE MORE TIME TO THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES

AS TIME IS MAIN CONCERN SO PEOPLE WALK TO NEAREST GROCERY STORE FOR DAILY NEEDS.

AND THAT’S THE PLACE WHERE I PAID ATTENTION THIS TIME – LOCAL VEGETABLE SHOP

BEFORE YOU ENTER STORE The store draws you in because of its

freshness and also on account as there is no other store near by

The door is open and it makes me feel that I am being accepted irrespective of my shopping decisions.

It is easy to identify it from distance and they have clearly written their services in bold lettering.

THE POSITIONING OF STORE AT END OF TWO WAY STREET IS A SMART CHOICE BECAUSE IT MADE TO AND FRO OF CUSTOMERS EASY

LOOKING THE ENVIRONMENT AROUND

CLEAN, COLOURFUL AND CHOOSE SIMPLY As you must have observed in the previous

picture there is ample light around store and visually it looks colourful, the owner has kept things clean , simple and has avoided much of glitz and packaging there is a reason behind it because here in INDIA most of the folks are veggies and they visit these stores frequently and they are more concerned about freshness of vegetable than anything else so bottom line is environment has little impact it’s the quality ,freshness and ease availability that rules.

PRICE LIST JUST KEPT AT CORNER

IF YOU HAVE OBSERVED PRICES WERE WRITTEN WITH CHALKS AT END As the prices vegetable fluctuate a lot

because of many reasons primary ones fuel price , weather impact , transport strike , sabotage and demand and supply mismatch.

But the owner has made one smart move here also instead of keeping price on each and every bucket it has kept one consolidated list the reason behind is once you people take a product rarely they will place back as they don’t compromise on eating items , but if you tell them at the beginning itself that’s its costly then they will look for other options in their budget.

WAS THAT FRESH ? In the previous picture I was checking if the

lady finger was fresh and soft by breaking at its bottom ( as for good ones bottom breaks easily) , so is the check done by customer for each and every vegetable they pick and that’s why products are placed in open so that the customers can separate the wheat from the chaff easily.

MODE OF SHOPPING SELF SERVICE

SALES PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT IS LESS People love to shop for themselves because

of freedom of choices that they can make they mainly check with sales people for prices or if they have any inquiry, request or complaint to make . Majorly in such Indian shops the person sitting at cash/ weight counter is the main sales guy cum owner cum cashier cum adviser

These entrepreneurs are not much educated and there business model is simply based on location for urban locations they operate on high prices and for rural location they operate on high volumes.

JUST OFFTRACK Just going a little deep how they make

money ..they take vegetables from mandi ( a place where all farmers from near by town assembles with their products) at 4:00 n morning in whole quantity and then by 9:00 o clock their vegetables are in shops with price tags varying with 30 to 100 % margins depending on location. Location is important because in rural areas in india people negotiate like anything here in urban centres not that much
