E-816 Seal, over

455,000 linear feet

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is one of the largest and mostheavily trafficked airfields in the United States. In 2012 new constructionbegan on Runway 4R-22L, where the original pavement had been installedfor more than 30 years. D.S. Brown’s field-proven Delastic PreformedPavement Seal was specified for use in the concrete joints of the new 12,000-ft runway and associated taxiways.

Delastic® Preformed Pavement Seals - Advantages

Delastic® Preformed Pavement Seals are extruded

from neoprene compounds which meet or exceed current ASTM, DOT and FAA standard specifications

Delastic® seals are a durable and cost effective

concrete pavement joint sealant

Delastic® Preformed Pavement Seals - MEPDG

The U.S. uses a MechanisticEmpirical Design Guide (MEPDG) to design long lasting pavements.

The MEPDG supports the benefits of preformed compression joint seals compared to other types of joint sealants.

Delastic® Preformed Pavement Seals – TR-2348_SRH Report

TR–2348–SRH Technical Report

For airfields, the standard joint sealant used to follow Federal Specification(FS) SS-S-200E. Nowadays, FS SS-S-200E is no longer recommended for newconstruction. Instead, chloroprene rubber (neoprene) preformed joint sealsare often preferred for new pavements due to their lower life cycle cost(and since they require smooth parallel surfaces for proper bonding), andsilicones are preferred for resealing (they have a lower upfront cost and canproperly seal uneven joint surfaces).

Elastomeric Concrete

Delpatch™ Elastomeric Concrete

Page 50: Pavement Products PPT (October 2014)

Delpatch™ is a polyurethane basedelastomer compounded to develophigh strength and to promote easybonding to both concrete and steel

Oregon’s Klamath Falls Airport has now fully replaced the pavement of the airfield’sTaxiway C. In earlier repairs, portions of the old concrete had been renovated withD.S. Brown’s Delpatch Elastomeric Concrete to extend the taxiway’s functionalityuntil the larger replacement project was funded.

The new construction began with the removal of the taxiway’s old pavement and asix-ton hammer was employed to address this task. While the rest of the concretecrumbled and broke under the hammer’s force, the earlier Delpatch repairs refusedto yield and retained their structure. They remained unbroken and were eventuallyremoved whole.
