Hiram Alums at UWG The University of West Georgia can lay claim to the most successful collegiate pro-gram in the state of Georgia this year. Climbing all the way to a #1 ranking earlier this year before suffering their only loss of the year, the Wolves have earned a #1 seed in the Division II playoffs and will await the winner of the Carson Newman-Valdosta State game. Hiram alums #73 Austin Kastl a junior OL, #8 Ethan Slate a senior WR and #21 Trevor Wylie a junior K, are all a part of the Wolves program. Best of luck to each and the Wolves as they begin the playoffs and chase a national championship.

Do the Math

Whether you love or loathe math, certain numbers are well worth crunching. We’re not talking about your bank account — but rather four essential health stats: your blood pressure (less than 140/90), LDL cholesterol (less than 100), blood sugar (less than 100), waist-to-height ratio (less than .5). Achieve what we call “the four normals” — healthy levels for all of these markers, and you’ll reduce your risk of chronic illness by a spectacular 80 percent. The power to optimize your health is in your hands — not to mention your feet, your plate, your pillow, and your social calendar. Eat a rainbow of whole plant foods and nutritious fats, don’t eat more than your body needs, and keep away from the five food felons — trans fats, saturated fats, added sugars, syrups, and any grain that isn’t 100 percent whole grain. • Move your body — a lot! Walk, run, bike, dance, play tennis and include resistance exercise.) • Do something you love every day. • Don’t smoke — even a little bit. • Sleep — six and a half to eight hours every night.

Prioritize your friendships. Social support, fun,

and laughter are excellent medicine!
