SYSTEM EXPANSION PROJECTS
LAKE COUNTY’S2040 TRANSPORTATION PLAN• Long range plan to identify
deficiencies and recommend improvements to address future transportation needs
• In development since 2010
• Network modeled from CMAP regional model with local characteristics
• Includes 2040 population and employment projections and corresponding traffic impacts
• Proposed improvements prioritized based on forecasted deficiency, prior study, cost and people-jobs potential
2040 ROADWAY PRIORITIES• Peak period trips estimated
to increase by 36% between 2010 and 2040
• 212 miles of roadway Improvements recommended
• 7 interchange
• 9 intersection
• 65 corridor
• Plan recommends an
additional 300 miles of non-motorized facilities
• Primarily off-street multi-use path for cyclist, pedestrian and other non-motorized use
• Many projects connect to Metra and bus routes for improved viability of non-motorized travel
• Provide essential non-motorized connections to communities, jobs, parks, schools, forest preserves
• Jurisdiction over non-motorized facilities by Lake County DOT, Lake County Forest Preserves, townships, municipalities and institutions
2040 NON-MOTORIZED PRIORITIES
• Variety of transit services are needed to address county needs:
• Demand response
• Fixed route bus
• Commuter rail• Recommendations based on
assessed needs with regard to:
