Judging from the crowds who rave about the experience it’s no wonder the brewery is fast becoming a hotspot for locals and a must see for visitors to the area.

Launched in 2010, owners Alistair & Kate Owen have certainly done

their due diligence as far as brewing is concerned. Before establishing

the Black Duck Brewery, Alistair travelled abroad throughout the United

Kingdom and around Australia in order to learn traditional techniques for

brewing each variety of beer.

Being the youngest brewing company in Port Macquarie, Black Duck is

focused on delivering a simple promise; to craft locally brewed beers as

pleasing and accessible as possible and provide customers with a glass

of perfectly balanced beer. As such sampling is best done directly at the

source, with a rather ingenious tasting paddle consisting of four glasses

of your choice for only five dollars.

The possible secret to the distinct flavour is the utilisation of older

machinery, some built in the 1960’s, which specialises in the production

of single infusion mash and relies on man power to mash in, clean up

and monitor the ferment before bottling and capping to finalise the

process. To ensure quality all beer is brewed, bottled or kegged onsite

at the brewery.

Black Duck is available on tap from many local venues including; The

Beach House Hotel, Zebu, Town Green Inn, Bago Vineyards, Oasis by

the River and Laurieton United Services Club to mention a few. Or drop

in for a quiet beer at the brewery - open from 11am to 6pm Wednesday

to Friday, 11am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday @ 6b Acacia Avenue,

Port Macquarie.
