For my daughter I made this summer dress. The fabric is my own design and is for sale in myspoonflower shop.

When working with knits, it is important not to stretch or pull the fabric while sewing. Also use a stretch needle and a stretch stitch. In this pattern all seams are sewed with a twin needle.

Step 1: Draw the pattern.

The pattern is without seam allowance. Ad 1 cm (0,4 in) seam allowance. Ad 2 cm (0,8 in) seam allowance at the bottom of the dress.Draw the neckline without seam allowance.

Step 2: Cut the fabric.

Cut a front piece and a back piece out of the fabrics.

Step 3: Pin the front piece to the back piece.

With right sides facing pin down the back and front piece.

Step 4: Sew.

Sew the sides of the dress.

Step 5: Fold the seam allowance to the inside.

Fold the seam allowance of the bottom of the dress to the inside and pin down.

Step 6: Sew the hem in place.

Turn right-side out. Sew the hem in place. Sew about 1,5 cm (0,6 in) from the outer edge.

Step 7: Sew neckband.

Take your ribbing fabric and cut it about 4,5 cm (1.8 in) wide. Align the raw edges of the neckband with the raw edge of the neck opening, wrong sides together. Sew 1 cm (0.4 in) from the outer edge. Stretch the neckband while you sew, but be careful not to stretch or pull the dress fabric.

Step 8: Sew neckband.

Fold the neckband over the cut edge, re-fold and pin down. Sew.

Step 9: Trim.

Trim.

Step 10: Sew straps.

Cut a strip of fabric of 100 cmx 4 cm(40.4 in x 1.6 in) or if you want to tie your straps up with a knot to fit, cut a strip of fabric of 130 cm x 4 cm (52 x 1.6 in).Align the raw edges of the neckband with the raw edge of the neck opening, wrong sides together. Sew 1 cm (0.4 in) from the outer edge. Stretch the neckband while you sew, but be careful not to stretch or pull the dress fabric.

Step 11: Sew straps.

Fold the neckband over the cut edge, re-fold and pin down. Sew. If you want to use long straps totie your straps up with a knot to fit, you're dress is finished now. Otherwise continue with step 12.

Step 12: Attach straps.

Sew the straps onto the back of the dress. Trim. (For the length of the straps, see pattern.)
