JOURNEY SO FAR
Historical background: PHF was established in eastern Sudan 1986 as a nongovernmental organization, focusing mainly on primary and child health care for the victims of Ethiopian civil war. Throughout 30 years of humanitarian constant and mobile health services, PHF has passed through 3 phases:1. Initial phase: this was characterized by the wide expansion of PHF activities in all states of
Sudan by establishing and running health institutions, health camps and campaigns in disaster and emergency situations, with special concern to child health services through specialized charity pediatric hospitals.
2. Second phase: Characterized by establishing specialized surgical centers to satisfy the local needs for more specialized surgical services and to provide financial support for voluntary and charity work in the country. In addition, PHF implemented number of surgical camps inside and outside Sudan in collaboration with local and international partners.
3. Third phase: characterized by expansion in more sophisticated services (training, education and rehabilitation services), in addition to crossing the boarders and implementing number of 2

activities in many African countries. PHF works through 5 years based strategy and now we are implementing the 20172020- strategic plan with special emphasis on establishing efficient partnerships and collaborations, professionalism, and providing high quality services.
Mission: PHF is a nongovernmental organization which works in the fields of health and social development, by providing health services, health education programs, training and developing more professionally qualified medical personnel and supporting scientific researches, through which it contribute to develop a better quality of life in the community. Through our wise actions, which link direct execution, provision of health services, funding and support through our efficient partnerships, PHF aims to create a healthy society, which is aware of its duties and positively interact with its health needs.

MOBILE HEALTH WORK: (MEDICAL CAMPAIGNS): Medical campaign is one of the mobile health services activities which targets the remote areas and poor societies which are deprived of the essential health services.

Some campaigns were specialized in certain medical conditions like:1. Schistosomiasis combat campaign to Aljazeera state. 2. Diphtheria combat convoy to northern kurdufan state. 3. Environmental sanitation convoys during autumn and flood seasons.
Usually the campaign lasts for about one week and serves about 5000 patients at least.16

Therapeutic role: Most of the times these campaigns transform into field hospitals during emergency times providing short admission services and performing minor operations.Research role: provide data which are essential in health status assessment of the target area. Social role: The campaigns are accompanied by scholars and elites who contribute to the elevation of social awareness and motivation to the local leaders by guiding them toward the best for their local societies. PHF lunches 10 - 15 campaigns every year, and serves about 50000 people at least.

MOBILE HEALTH WORK (Outreach clinics): These camps serve the remote areas which are deprived of basic health services, providing the following services:1. Medical consultation and examination.2. • PHF lunches 30 medical camps /year which serve about15000 patients. • PHF implemented this modality of mobile medical work outside Sudan in some African countries
like Somalia and chad.• PHF has been accredited by WHO for execution of health camps for the refugees from South
Sudan.• Now the model of outreach mobile clinics has been promoted by addition of primary health care
packages.

Specialized surgical camps: 1. Pediatrics open heart surgery and cardiac catheterization for pediatrics camps (heart beat
initiative): served about 300 patient.2. Ophthalmic surgical camps (sight initiative).3. ENT surgical camps. 4. Urology surgical camps.5. Female vesical fistula repairs surgical camps.Each camp serves the following targets: • Conducting specialized sophisticated surgeries. • Training of junior doctors in the targeted field. • Reconstruction and rehabilitation of the local hospitals.

Sananei Almamaaroof initiative for conducting operations to poor people: • The initiative Started in 2009.• The goal of the initiative was to support poor people (totally or partially) to perform surgical
operations.• 55 projects were implemented with about 750 beneficiaries /year.

RELIEF AND EMERGENCIES: • Health and relief services provided for the areas affected by disasters and wars. • Targets internally displaced person’s(IDPs) camps and affected societies. • Darfur emergency program is considered the biggest program which kept working for 14 years.
Services provided: 1. Establishment of field work center which served the affected areas.2. Basic medical services: medical examination, investigation and management.3. Urgent relief and humanitarian aid.4. Environmental sanitation services.5. Psychosocial support programs.

The outcomes of these projects were:1. Provision of integrated health services (therapeutic –diagnostic and promotive).2. Relief of poverty and illnesses for poor people by providing them with services in their places.3. Contribution to the institutional construction of charity organizations and associations in Africa.

In 2015, PHF implemented ONE BODY INNITIATIVE, which aimed at management of vulnerable Yemeni patients in response to the humanitarian CALL due to the collapse of health system as a result of the ongoing war. Open-heart surgeries, diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization, in addition to ENT operations were conducted within the initiative. Within last decade, PHF implemented a number of medical and surgical camps in Chad, Somalia, Cameron, Kenya, Syrian refugee’s camps in Turkey, Niger and union of Comoros.

THE AFRICAN AND REGONAL CONCERN:• African continent has the worst health indicators especially in maternal and child health • Many countries lack presence of efficient health system and the essential infrastructures.• Africa is considered as one of the greatest foci in which humanitarian message can be easily
spread through health and charity services. PHF worked in Somalia for 3 years (2011 - 2013) through provision of constant and mobile health and training services focusing mainly on maternity and child health. In addition to rehabilitation, maintenance of malnutrition and diarrheal disease hospital.
